At the United Church Rev.
Mary WillaIly led the worship
and officiated at the Sacrament
of Infant Baptism. The babies
baptized were Jennifer Ann,
daughter of John and. Ann Marie
Adams, Blair David, son of
Murray and Bernice Fraser,
Katherine Mary and Cassandra
Elizabeth, twin daughters of
James and Willa Harding, Craig
Mario, son of Frank and Betty
Piccolo, Noah Fredrick, son of
Charles and Ruth Ann Peckham.
Special music was provided by
the choir and Arden Bryan
rendered a violin solo which was
a medley of hymns and a vocal
duet was sung by Brenda Cook
and Cindy Mills.
The childrens story was a
flannelgraph entitled, "Winkie
helps Mother".
Rev. Mclnally's sermon was
the second in the series on har-
nessing our instincts.
The benediction "Shalom
Chaverin" was sung by the choir.
UCW meetings
Unit I met at the home of Mrs.
Austin Hobbs for their May
meeting on Wednesday. Mrs. E.
Summers presided and con-
ducted the business.
The meeting opened with a
hymn, followed by the scripture
reading. The lesson dealt with
self-pity.
Mrs. Summers, gave a reading,
"Lord, I do not understand, but I
know". The roll call was an-
swered by a quaint saying from a
child,
The business taken care of, was
a decision against this unit
having a booth on Fun Day this
year.
,A small sum of money was
collected from each member
towards expenses for the Mother
and Daughter Banquet on May
15.
Mrs. George Squire gave a
reading and Mrs. Glen Jameson
led in Bible study.
Unit 3
Mrs. Malcolm Kay was the
hostess for the May meeting on
Tuesday, May 6. Mrs. J, Riddell
presided and opened the meeting
with a poem entitled "Grouch".
The special speaker was
Wayne McLeish, London, and his
subject was Transcendental
Meditation, a very stimulating
discussion followed.
As part of the business, ten-
tative plans were made to do
something for Fun Day in July.
Arrangements for the June
General Meeting programme
were made for which Unit 3 is
responsible.
Jack Wall has been engaged as
a special speaker. Mr. Wall is
supervisor of a teenage home in
Parkhill, but his topic will be on
the discovery of an important
treatment for Tuberculosis that
has been discovered in Haiti. Mr.
Wall hopes to raise funds for this
worthy cause by doing
promotional work, such as giving
lectures.
Unit 4
The hostess for Unit 4 was Mrs.
James Kerr. Mrs. Floyd Dykes
presided and led in worship.
Lesson thoughts dealt with self-
pity. Mrs. Dykes also read a
poem in keeping with Mother's
Day. The Roll Call was answered
with a poem pertaining to
Mother.
This Unit is planning to sell
spoons and mugs com-
memorating the 50th Anniver-
sary of Church union.
Scripture readings regarding
the program were read by con-
veners, Mrs. H. Hardie, Mrs.
Harvey Kennedy and Mrs.
Gerald Dann. The topic was
"Who is Jesus".
Mrs. C. Bowman gave a short
talk on the metric system.
Institute news
Granton and area was well
represented at the WI District
Annual meeting for North
Middlesex held at Lucan United
Church on Tuesday, May 6.
Clandeboye was the hostess
branch,
Members attending from
Granton WI were Mrs. G. Wilson,
Mrs. D. Roloson, Mrs. N. Riddell,
Mrs. G. Dann, Mrs, H. Hodgins,
Mrs. C. Lewis, Mrs. E. Summers,
Mrs. K. Hodgins and Mrs. Lois
Herbert.

Attend UCW Regional Rally
A number of ladies from
Granton UCW attended the
Regional Rally at Wellburn
United Church on Wednesday,
May 7.
Church news '
Rev. R. N. Savary, rector of St.
Thomas Anglican Church,
conducted the morning service on
Sunday, May 11. Rev. Savary's
sermon was based on "Imitation
is a means of flattery". This Was
in keeping with Pentecostal
Sunday.
ACW meeting
Mrs. R. N. Savary was the
hostess at the. rectory, Kirkton,
for the May 'meeting of the ACW
on Wednesday. The president
Mrs. J. Noon opened the meeting
with prayers.
Mrs. C. Lewis gave the Living
Message, Mr. P. Hodgins read
the scripture lesson, Mrs. N.
Hodgins the Meditation, Mrs. Jim
Hodgins the •Litany, and Prayer
by Mrs. C. Lewis. Mrs. Savary
read two poems pertaining to
spring.
Mrs. J. Noon and Mrs. Lois
Herbert gave an interesting
report of the annual meeting of
the Diocese of Huron which was
held in London last week.
Mrs. Noon reported on the
meeting she attended at the
Perth Deanery held in Stratford
recently. Other items of business
were disoussed. Lunch was
served by the hostess; assisted by
Mrs. C. Lewis.

Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Harlton
hosted a christening party for
their twin granddaughters
Katherine and Cassandra Har-
ding on Sunday. It was a family
party which included the Harding
and the Harlton families.
John Herbert and Chad
Anderson were guests of Glyn
Knapman who was celebrating
his ninth birthday on Saturday.
Mrs. F. Crouch was the guest of
her son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
& Mrs. William Elders of
Chatham,
Mr. & Mrs. James Kerr have as
their guests, Mrs. Kerr's cousins
Mr. & Mrs, Chas. Anderson, who
are here on a visit from Scotland,
They accompanied Mr, & Mrs.
Kerr when they attended the 50th
wedding anniversary of Mrs.
Kerr's brother and his wife Mr. &
Mrs. William Thomson of
Bellwood, near Fergus, on
Sunday.
