WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD The May meeting of the United church women was held on Monday evening with twenty- eight members and one visitor present. Mrs. William Rowcliffe. program convener, opened the meeting with the Call to Worship. Members sang "Breathe on Me Breath of God". Piano solos were by Mrs. Ray Cann and Cheryl, Cheryl also recited the theme, "When You Have Aspirations", was given by Mrs, Rowcliffe. The devotion was given by Mrs. Rowcliffe, Mrs. William Snow, Mrs. Robt Mayer and Mrs. Bev Morgan. The offering was received by Mrs. Snow and the Offertory Prayer was given by Mrs. Rowcliffe. A poem, "Mothers Are People", was read by Mrs. Mayer. Member sang "Fight the Good Fight" and Mrs. Rowcliffe closed the worship; service with 'prayer. Mrs. Bev Morgan showed her display of ceramics which she has done, Mrs. Webber opened the business with a poem "Mother's Day". Minutes, roll call, correspondence and treasurer's report were given. It was decided to get the firstcook book reprint- ed. Mrs. Webber closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served by Group W and the hostess Mrs. Mac Hodgert. Personals Mrs, Ken Brazier and Cathy of Brantford visited over the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Passmore. Mr. & Mrs. Case de mooy, Sandra and Shari of London visited on Sunday with Mr, & Mrs. Rick Mellenger. Douglas and David, spent the weekend with Rev. & Mrs. John Campbell and family. Rev, Oral Withrow, of Anderson, Indiana, was guest speaker, Sunday morning at the Church of God, A solo, titled, "I will serve Thee", was sung by Rev, John Campbell. Guest minister, Sunday, at St. Johns By the Lake Anglican Church, was Canon Charles James, of London, Jim Kennedy, is home after having finished his first year at York University in Toronto, Mr. & Mrs. Robt. Jeffery, Mr., & Mrs. Lorne Passmore, Mr. & Mrs. Frayne Parsons and Margaret, Mr, David Passmore, Rev. Barry and Mrs. Robinson, Mr. & Mrs, William Rohde, Mr, & Mrs. Gordon Stone were guests at the Metters - Passmore wedding at Zion United Church, Crediton and the reception at the home of Mr, & Mrs. Wiliam Hooper of Exeter on Saturday evening. Mr. & Mrs. Gus Gregus of Exeter visited on Saturday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Jeffery. Mrs. Charles Jeffery was a guest on Friday with Mrs. Harold Jeffery of Exeter when her son Ross and his wife from Edmonton Alberta were visiting his mother, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Coates and Mr. & Mrs. Victor Jeffery were also guests. Tina and Cresta Snow Kippen spent the weekend with their grandparents, Mr, & Mrs. William Snow. Exeter senior club events About 85 members and guests attended the May meeting of the Exeter Senior Citizens Tuesday, May 6 at the Legion Hall. After card playing and singing, a musical program by the Christian Reformed Church choir, led by Mr. Al De Haan, was en- joyed. The performance included duets, piano solos, a reading and several numbers by the chorus. Mrs, Ross Broadfoot also per- formed a piano solo. Lunch was served by the ladies of the Anglican Church. He's in the middle-income and upper-outgo group. Mrs. S.M, Barbour of Toronto spent a week here visiting her brothers and sisters and returned home Thursday with Mr. & Mrs. Clarke Kennedy, Visitors during the weekend with Mr, & Mrs. Roy Morenz, Glenda and Tammy were, Mrs. Morenz son and granddaughter, Glen and Dania Thurman of Denfield, Mr. & Mrs. John McNish, Luke and Paul of Lake Orion, and Mrs. Morenz' niece, Valerie Kniefel of Waterloo and her friend, Douglas Abrams, of Kingston. Mrs. Brian Carey, and Mrs. David Noon and Michael, all of London, visited the girl's mother, Mrs. Nola Taylor, on Saturday. Brent Hamilton of London spent the weekend with his grandparetns Mr. & Mrs. Alec Hamilton, Mrs. Mabel Gill attended a ceramics seminar on the weekend at the Lambeth Studio. Plan race for GB boats Grand Bend council Monday night authorized the village recreation committee to deal with the Grand Bend yacht club regarding arrangements for the Canada Trust 100 race on June 27- 30. The yacht club has requested that a portion of the docking space be placed in its control for the period in return for a donation to the recreation committee. In the past, the local dockmaster has handled arrangements, Councillor Harold Green, also a member of the recreation committee, suggested that the race was a "good drawing card" for Grand Bend and council should co-operate. He said about 35 yachts from four or five dif- ferent yacht clubs were expected to attend. The Canada Trust 100 is a race from Brand Bend to Senelac, Michigan, back to Goderich and finally ending at Grand Bend. Reeve Bob Sharen commented that the race has and will bring the community extensive news coverage. HUGH MORENZ SHIPKA Several from this area at- tended the dinner meeting at Dashwood Community centre Wednesday evening. The guest speaker was James E. Bullock MPP for Sarnia, at the Liberal Association founding meeting for the new provincial riding of Huron and Middlesex. Some of special head table guests were Anson McKinley, Warden of Huron, Cecil Desjardine, Reeve of Stephen, and Jack Riddell, MPP for Huron. Musical entertainment was presented by the Deichert family. Mr. & Mrs. Earl Deichert, John and Elizabeth, played several musical numbers and sang a number of songs. Jack Riddell sang the auc- tioneer song accompanied by Elizabeth on guitar. Personals Mrs. Art Meininger was a supper guest at her niece's home Tuesday with Mr, & Mr. Ray Fisher, Mr. & Mrs, Ferman Snyder visited Sunday in Elmira with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. George Shoemaker, and Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Martin. Summer schedule plans were made for a bake sale in August. A thank offering service will be held in May with special speaker and music. Discussion followed on manse renovations. Special events to mark the 50th anniversary of church union will be the sale of spoons, corn- memorating the event, and the giving out of the "multiply talents Money."
