E. SUMMERS A training school was held at No. 2 Firehall London from Mon. March 31 to Wed. April 2. This school was sponsored by the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and was a regional training school for all of Mid- dlesex county members. Instructors were there from the Training School in Gravenhurst Ont, Members attending' from the Granton dept. and receiving their diplomas were chief ward Ellyatt, capt. Eric Chevoncek, training officer Robert Pincombe and Robert Lester. Wednesday they were joined by deputy chief Richard Kloss and Capt. Frank Piccolo. Information and instruction received at this course will be passed on tho the rest of the members. 4-H Yeasterners met twice this week. The 5th meeting of the Yeasterners was held at the home of Leader Mrs. Michael O'Shea on Thursday, April 10 at 6.30 p.m. The meeting opened with the 4- II pledge. The members divided into groups of three and prepared to make Swedish Tea Ring, Chelsea buns and a Hungarian Bubble Ring. After they were made and put in the oven, the roll call' was taken, this was to show the Sour Dough made for the home activity, and comment how it turned out or tell of an ex- perience you had while making it. A discussion followed on bread from other lands. The minutes were read and adopted and the girls sampled their baking and took some home for their families to taste. The meeting closed with plans about Achievement Day and the setting up of the demonstration. The 6th meeting took place at the home of Mrs. O'Shea on Saturday, March 12 at 9 a,m. Marlene French and Susie Gricken demonstrated how to make Cheese Puffs, followed by Gwen Hodgins and Brenda Tomlin demonstrating how to make Bar-B-Q stacks. A discussion followed on how to judge bread for Achievement Day, May 3. The roll call was answered by the thirteen members present, on name the supper dish you made, using bread as a main ingredient. Record book were requested to be turned in by April 20. Plans were discussed for Achievement Day. Baking was sampled and enjoyed. The meeting closed with the 4-H pledge. The final meeting of the "Let's Bake Bread Club" will be held April 14 at Mrs. Michael O'Shea's. Masonic Lodge :There was a large attendance at the Granton Masonic Lodge 483 A,F.M. on the occasion of the visit of the District Deputy Right. Worshipful Brother Earl Watson RR 1, St, Mary's. Out-of-town visitors were members of the associated lodges of South Huron District. UCW general meeting The general meeting of the UCW was held on Tuesday, April 8. Mrs. James Kerr president welcomed the members and the many visitors. There were guests from both the Anglican ACW and Wesley UCW. Mrs. Kerr opened the meeting with worship and prayer followed by a short business session. Unit I was responsible for the program, Mrs. E. Summer, Unit leader opened with thesinging of a hymn. Mrs. Elwyn Bryan favored with a vocal solo. Rev. Mary Mclnally in- troduced the guest speaker Rev. Anne (Graham) Langford asst. Minister of Metropolitan United church London. Rev. Langford's message was very inspiring. We need Chirst and Christ needs us. Lunch was served by the members of Unit I. Scout and Cub news The scouts and cubs are working on a variety show, which they are putting on in May, the date will be announced later. Church news At the Anglican church Rev. Savary conducted the morning service. In place of a sermon therewas a ballot on Church Union. The qustions were answered by the congregation. ACW meeting On Wednesday, April 9 the ACW met at the home of Mrs. Jack Noon at 7 p.m., this was done in order that those who wanted to could attend the campaign Cancer Soc. meeting at Lucan. A short business session was conducted by president Mrs. Jack Noon. Delegates were named to attend the Annual ACW Conference on May 1 at St. James Westminster Church, London. Mrs. J. Noon and Mrs. Lois Herbert were chosen. United church news At the United Church Rev. Mary McInally's sermon was entitled "I am the Good Shepherd". Explorer news On Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. the Explorers will be holding a "Penny Sale" in the church basement to raise money for Bunny Bundle. A new leader is needed for the explorer group in September. Anyone interested? Duplicate bridge The Duplicate Bridge Club met at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Brown. There were four tables, David Burke instructor from the London Bridge Studio reviewed the Staymen convention. He presented each member with a pocket sized book, "Basic Bridge" and a ticket entitling the holder to a free play at the London Studio. Winners by match points were, Mary & Doreen McRoberts 39, Doug & Evelyn Brown, David Burke & Bob Mcllorum 34. Anne Bryan & Sue Waugh, Betty Rooney & Audrey Watt 30, Shirley Bannerman & Willa Harding 27, Ward & Lorna Ellyatt 24, Elsie Dann & Eileen Summers 23. The last meeting will be at the same place and time on May 1. Attend Cancer meeting A number of Granton ladies attended the annual campaign launching meeting at Lucan United Church on Wednesday evening March 9. Dr, Kay Stavraky was the guest speaker and spoke on Intestinal Cancer. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Wesley McGuffin, Margaret and Kenneth gave a in honor of Mrs. McGuffin mother's 75th birthday which was April 8.Guests helping her to celebrate were Mr. & Mrs. Alex McDonald and Sandy, Transvaal, Mr, & Mrs. Arnold Hudson & Debra, Bryanston; Mr. & Mrs. Robt, Hudson, Tammy and Robbie also of Bryanston and Brian Landon, Lucan. The guest of honor was Mrs, Alvin Carson who resides with Mr. & Mrs. McGuggin. Mrs. Ivan (Marie) Ross has returned from holidaying in Florida, and while there visited Mr, & Mrs, Emer Harlton who are spending the winter in Lakeland. We welcome Mr. & Mrs. Stevens and Cindy their daughter. John & Trudy have come to live on King St. from London. Mrs. Frank (Pat) Ottenhof is a patient in St. Joseph's awaiting the arrival of her baby, we wish her well. Welcome home to Mrs. Harold Wallis who has had a long stay in hospital. Sympathy is extended to Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Mitchell on the sudden passing of their youngest son the late Thomas Jr. on Wednesday April 2. Mrs, Robt.
