Trying for Allan Cup
The Lucan-Ilderton. Jets won
their second Ontario Hockey
Association Senior Continental
championship Wednesday and
are now competing in the first
round of playdowns leading to the
Allan Cup.
The Jets edged the Stratford
Perths 4.2 on Ilderton ice Wed-
nesday to take the best-of-seven
finals four games to one.
Moving quickly to Allan Cup
competition, the Jets while losing
twice to the defending champion
Barrie Flyers have turned in
excellent efforts.
In Barrie Saturday night, the
home team. Flyers were forced to
score three goals in the third
period to edge the Jets 3-2.
Back in Ilderton Sunday night,
Barrie was victorious, but again
the game was closely played and
the Flyers emerged victors by
the same 3-2 score.
The third game was played in
Ilderton last night, Wednesday
with the fourth scheduled for
Barrie Friday night at 8.30 p.m.
If a fifth game is necessary it will

The Exeter Centennial Soccer .
Club will enter a senior team in
the Ausable League rather than
the London & District SOccer
Association this year,
In the London group last year,
the local team suffered several
lop-sided defeats and it was
decided to enter the area league
where the team will be more
competitive.
That was the information three
executive members provided for
RAP this week as they presented
their annual budget.
Attending the meeting were
Joe Laurie, Damien Solomon
and Bill Smits.
Their estimated expenses for
fielding five minor and one senior
team are $1,668. Grants and
donations make up about half the
anticipated receipts, while a
deficit of $500 will be secured
from fund-raising events.
The budget also anticipates a
grant of $200 from RAP. This will
only be paid if required by the
soccer group at the end of the
season.
RAP members agreed Monday
night to finance the erection of
steel cross bars at the goal posts
used at the high school playing
field. Cost of this was estimated
at $25.
Niters take
dart crown
After spending a few weeks in
second place the Itchy Niters
came on Strong to win the Exeter
Legion mixed dart league regular
season championship.
The Itchy Niters masses a
season total of 98 points four
more than the runner-up Dark
Angels. Members of the cham-
pionship team are Annie and
Gerry Lawson and Barb and Ed
Hearn.
Playoff arrangements have
been completed and the first
round gets underway Friday
night.
go back at the Barrie arena,
Sunday night at 7.30.
After the two losses and in each
instance by only a goal to the
Barrie club last year's Allan Cup
champs, Jets Manager Don
Urbshott said he was pleased
with his team's performance.
Urbshott commented, "It's
great playing against a team like
Barrie and our club can't play
any better than they did in the
first two games."
He continued, "I'd like to win a
game or two. But, it's a great
experience. Give us another year
or two and we'll be on par with
them."
"With Darrell Sly a former
pro with Toronto and Minnesota
in action along with other top
notch performers it has been a
bonus for our fans and players
alike."
"The Flyers had little trouble
of disposing of Orillia and
Brantford in the playoffs, so we
are very happy with ourefforts to
date."
The only game in which the
Flyers have failed to win on home
ice this year was against the
Russians and the score was 4-3.
Shots were even
In Sunday's game at Ilderton
the Jets stayed right with the
Flyers as each team fired 39
shots on the opposition goal.
Sonny Pennington in goal for
the Jets was sensational in
keeping the score down to three
goals. On Pennington's play,
manager Don Urbshott said,
"Sonny is a great playoff goalie.
He has the senior experience,
was up for the games and knew
what to expect."
Sunday's contest was only five
minutes old when captian Doug
Galloway gave the hometown
fans something to cheer about.
Playing coach jack Nairn.
started Pete Loveless away over
the Barrie blneline and his shot
heading toward the goal was
tipped past Barrie netminder
Grant Cole by Galloway.
Before the first period was
completed Barrie had taken a 2-1
lead which they never
relinquished. Paul. Regan started
the Flyer counting while the Jets
were a man short and Grant
Moore registered on a scramble
around the L-1 net.
The second period was almost
history before each team picked
up their final marker of the
game. Paul Regan, who was the
Senior "A" league's leading
scorer hit at 16.19 and only a
minute later, Pete Loveless
banged his own rebound into the
net. Jack Nairn assisted.
In the ,lirst game, Saturday
night in Barrie, the Flyers. were.
forced to come from behind with
three goals in the third period to
pull off the victory.
After a scoreless first period
Rick Fifield put the Jets on the
scoreboard near 15minutes of the
middle frame on a pass from
Barry Baynharn.
Fifield, the Continental's top
scorer moved in on the Barrie net
on a two-on-one situation and
faked a pass to Doug Galloway
and beat goalie Grant Cole.
The second period was less
than a minute old when Fifield
registered again. This time the
goal came on a breakaway set up
