We have lost most of the
Northern Ontario market to
Manitoba and our present
marketing quota is 75 percent,
CEMA wants us to cut back a
further 5 percent down to 70
percent. Two years from now it
will be 60 percent,
We are losing our markets to
other provinces, to other
products — "Egg Beaters", and
to bad publicity (CEMA 1974) etc.
Where will it all end?
Ontario has paid more money
into CEMA than all other
provinces combined, We are not
talking about thousands of
dollars in the past three years,
but millions of dollars. Your
dollars and mine, and what did
we get for it?
We got: bad publicity and lost
egg sales, cut back in our market
share; a huge debt load; an open
border that was promised to be
closed and dumping of eggs in
Ontario by other provinces."
- per week. Or $5,000.00 per year
per 10,000 hens. Presently, the
levy is 5c per dozen. But keep in
mind that the Board is over $2
million dollars in debt today, In
order to repay this, levies will
have to be increased to 8c per
dozen. With the Board's
overhead, the state of CEMA,
levies will never fall again below
4c per dozen.
At one time 4c per dozen was
considered a good profit. Now we
merely payit to thepoard and we
are not making a profit.
Remember the good old days,
when we in Ontario supplied 45
percent of the Canadian egg
market, Then CEMA came along
and we were cut back to 38
percent. Now with Quebec ex-
panding we have lost that market
and in two years time, Quebec
will supply 20 percent of the
Ontario market. (This is what
happened in the broiler
business).

As the result of a recent
meeting in Mount Hope, 50 egg
producers agreed that the
Ontario Egg Producers'
Marketing Board should serve
notice of intention to withdraw
from the Canadian Egg
Marketing Agency as soon as
possible.
In a second resolution,
producers agreed that production
control of egg imports are
necessary for operation of supply
management in the egg industry
and whereas the present levy
amounts to 10 per cent of the
gross returns from a dozen eggs
be it resolved that if production
control and reduction of levy to
below two cents per dozen are not
obtained by July 1, 1975 that all
efforts to apply supply
management to the egg industry
be abandoned.
A recent release from the
committee to reform egg
marketing passes on the
following information:

advertising of eggs. When was

Ekko offers the same flexibility of

And Ekko is safe to corn and is
effective right up to the three-leaf
stage of grasses.

However, he , said problems
encountered in preparing the
cheques have caused a delay but
an all-out effort is being made to
correct the situation and the
cheques should be readyin a few

The interim payment will be
$1.00 per bushel and it applies to
wheat sold to producers from
July 1974 to the end of February
1975. It is being made from sales
made by the board and it does not
include any federal government
two-price consumer subsidy
money.
Mr. Standing said the interim
payment being made is in ad-
dition to the basic initial price of
$2.01 per bushel received by
producers when they sold their
wheat.
. There are approximately15,000
producers in the province whose
individual sales are recorded and
processed by the marketing
board. For producer sales of
wheat made after March 1st, the
interim payments will be made
by the board on a current basis as
records are processed.
Mr. Fergus Young, RR 1,
Ennismore, has been re-elected
chairman of the Ontario Wheat
Producers' Marketing Board.
The marketing board an-
nounced results of elections

meeting held in Toronto April 1
and 2.

moved up from second vice-
chairman to first vice-chairman
replacing Russell Rogers, RR 1,
