I enrolled as a student at one of these fee charging
trade schools and paid the full amount of $495,00 by .
cheque. I became quite ill after only a few days, and
because my doctor informed me that I was going to be
sick for some time, I decided to take the course later. I
phoned the school to tell them why and they told me
that they would refund my cheque less $175.
I don't mind paying them something, but this strikes
me as an unfair amount of money to charge for only a
few days tuition, what do you think?
What we think is really not important, because the law
here 'clearly states that you are required to pay the full
amount for the entire first quarter once you start a course.
This includes the registration 'fee and it all comes under the
rules of The Private Trade Schools Act, which is administered
by the Department of Education.
This act was written to protect and regulate the private
trade schools as well as its students, so regardless of when
you quit you have to pay for the first quarter. Sorry, but
that's the way it stands at the moment, and there's absolutely
nothing you can do about if,

How would YOU like to receive a $50 merchandise
cheque from "IMPACT"? Well, if you have written a
letter to this column since it began in the T-A on January
23. 1975, YOU could be the lucky winner of this big
prize, regardless of whether or not your letter has been
published, because the names of all "IMPACT" letter
writers will be placed in a special ballot box up to and
including next week, April 17.
The lucky winner will be able to spend the $50 on
merhcandise at any "IMPACT" advertisers place of
business ( winner's choice). Because this is a draw and
not a contest the winner will have to correctly answer a
skill testing question, as required by law. We'll give you
a wee clue, however, and tell you that the question will
pertain to an "IMPACT" advertiser or advertisers.
Remember YOU can still get in on this lucky draw
worth $50 in merchandise if we hear from you, this
week or next. So send in your letters, we would love to
hear from you!
Readers are reminded that ALL letters addressed to
this column will receive a personal reply, provided you
enclose a STAMPED, ADDRESSED ENVELOPE.

On November 23, 1974 The London Free Press
published an advertisement for Gemstones of Europe
(ad. enclosed). I purchased this ring on their 14-day trial
period and found that it wasn't as described. I sent it
back before the 14 days were up by registered mail but
to date have not received my money back. I have also
since written to them but my letter wasn't answered.
Please look into this matter for me. Thank you.
"IMPACT" is sorry to report that Mr. Sam Sobel, presi-
dent of Gemstones of Europe has declared bankruptcy of this
firm. ..
The only re-course now open to you is to write the Trustees
in Bankruptcy, which are Taylor Liebow, Lukas and Ackerman
at 103, John Street East, Hamilton, Ontario. They should then
send you a claims form, which you will have to complete and
return.
