SUMMERS An Easter lily plant was placed in the church by Mr. & Mrs. Richard Acres in memory of Richard's mother, Mrs. Ralph Acres. Much credit should be given to the Sunday School teachers and their pupils for the beautifully decorated mobile, which was adorned with palm branches, thorns, lilies, and a white cross. For the Easter Sunday service the Anglican church was decorated with Easter lilies, chrysanthemums and pussy- willows. A display representing a garden of ferns, house plants and spring flowers was also placed in the church. Rev. R. N. Savary celebrated the Easter Holy Communion assisted by Marion Herbert, The Easter Anthem was sung. Richard Acres read the Epistle of the Day. Rev. Savary's sermon was on the Empty Tomb. The service Sunday, April 6 will be at 9,30 a.m. United Church The Easter Sunday service at the United Church was well at- tended, with many out-of-town visitors, Rev. Mary Mclnally's meditation was, "The Bread was Broken". The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was- observed. Special music was a violin solo "Largo" by Arden Bryan, vocal solo "They led Him away", by Mrs. Elwyn Bryan, two numbers by the choir "For these tears I died" and "The stone was rolled away". Cross and Crown award pins were presented to Norman Bilyea (first pin), Diane Garrett and Jay Hayden (third pin), Wendy Kloss and Noel Westman (fourth pin). At the General Meeting of the Granton UCW the guest speaker will be Rev. Anne Langford of Metropolitan United Church, London. The Anglican ladies and Wesley UCW have been invited to join with Granton at this meeting on Tuesday, April 8 at the church at 8.15 p.m. Women's Institute news On Tuesday evening March 25 the W.I. met at the home of Mabel McNaughton, Mrs. Donald Roloson president, conducted the business. There was some discussion on what short courses to take and two were decided on. It was agreed that the mem- bers would again canvass for the Cancer Society, Mrs. E. Sum- mer's to be the captain. A nominating committee was put in to prepare a slate of of- ficers for the next meeting. Conveners for the March meeting were Mrs. Norman Riddell and Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins, the topic Family and Consumers Affairs. Mrs. Hodgins gave a reading in connection with a different hobby, collecting fence wire insulators. Mrs. Hodgins brought some samples for inspection. Mrs. Riddell introduced the guest speaker Carol Ferguson Home Economist, holder of Provincial honors from Ottawa and Toronto. She is at present working in Middlesex Miss Ferguson's subject was "Nutrition". Canadians do not pay enough attention to the nutrients that they should have in their food, for 'health and fitness and as a result many are over- weight and undernourished, said Miss Ferguson. Following the W.I. grace a light, but nourishing lunch was served by the hostess and con- veners. Happy. Gang March 26 Owing to the weather con- ditions it was decided not to have a meeting last month/ and as an Irish program was already prepared, The Happy Gang were later than most in honoring Ireland's Patron Saint. Mrs, James Kerr presided and opened the meeting with reading, "Easter Needs", followed by a poem, "On being 65". Mrs, C, 13. Westman also gave a reading entitled, "The best years of my life". Everyone joined in a Sing song of popular Irish songs. Mrs. Elmer Summers sang two By 'MRS. Westman were Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Westman and family, Sarnia, Mr. & Mrs. Grant Westman and family, St. Thomas and Barbara Westman, Ilderton, Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins spent a few days last week with her aunt, Mrs. Wm. Rodd of Exeter and visited other relatives in the town. Mr, & Mrs. John Talbot and children were Easter visitors with Mrs. Talbot's mother, Mrs. Ross Clatworthy. Mrs, Edward Brown, Cherell and Paul, London, Walter Gowan and Mrs. Carmen Gowan of Windsor were Easter guests of Mr. & Mrs. Clifford McRobert, Mrs. Sydney Jermyn spent Easter as the guest of Grace Lindsay. Westman visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Hartle, London. Mrs. Elmer Summers was a visitor at the Prospect Hill W.I. at their March meeting on Wed- nesday, March 26 and gave a talk on cancer education. Jean Roloson, Woodstock, spent Easter with her brother, Donald Roloson and wife and family and also with her father Arthur Roloson. Easter weekend guests with Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Summers were Mr. & Mrs. Richard Harris Richard Jr. and Anne of Downsview and Keith Summers, Toronto. Reta Clatworthy is progressing favorably after surgery in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital. Best wishes for the recovery of Mark Pinnell after his accident.. He is a patient at University Hospital, London. Get well wishes for continued improvement go to Mrs. Harold Wallis who has had a long stay in St. Marys Memorial Hospital. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of the late Mrs. James Bryan who passed away at St. Marys Memorial Hospital, March 31. The remainder of the afternoon was spent playing cards, crokinole, and shuffleboard. Those who were honored by having their names on the bir- thday cake were; Lizzie Crockett, Marjorie Morley, Mary Bowman, Olive Gowan, Ethel Squire and Harold Westman. It was decided to give the af- ternoon's collection to the Bunny Bundle. $23 was realized.
