Daer stopped a total of 32 shots and many came in flurries, In one sequence he blocked shots from Mike Guimond, John McLean and John St. Cyr in less than 19 seconds. The Jets took eight of 13 minor penalties called by referee Frank Slota and the penalty killing forces kept Stratford at bay most of the time, On the last penalty in the third period more than one minute had elapsed before the Perths were Lorne Daer . gets shutout able to bring the puck out to centre ice. Steve Proctor and Larry Haugh were very effective working in penalty killing roles. Persistent checking by Rick Fifield and Larry Haugh set up the first Jets goal coming from the stick of Dick Doughty at 15.50 of the first period. The second L-I goal came with less than two minutes remaining in the middle frame. Larry Haugh with a good pass set up Steve Proctor and the speedy forward beat Ken Hyde in the Stratford net with a quick wrist shot. Dick Doughty with his second goal of the game and fourth of the series wound up the game scoring at 13.07 of the third period and insured the victory. Rick Fifield picked up the assist on a good pass. Lubrication may be enough to free it. Snow tires should be stored in a cool, dark, dry place with a smooth floor, preferably free from oil. Stack them on their sides if you have room. Accidents triple when the sun goes down. At night, visual acuity drops by five-sixths, and the ability to distinguish contrasts by six-sevenths. Ken Hyde is the Stratford goalie, T-A photo period while the Perths could only hit the mark on two oc- casions. The only goal of the first period was fired by defenceman Barry Baynham on an unassisted effort. Baynham with one of his good rushes beat the Stratford defence and goalie Ken Hyde. Dick Doughty hit the mark with a pair of successful shots near the midway mark of the second session. Rick Fifield assisted on both scores and Bill White picked up one assist, Doughty's second score came at 14.13 and only 16 seconds later Jim Blake scored from the side of the net, also without help from any team-mates. Mike Guimond put the Perths on the scoreboard for the first time at 17.28 of the first period from a scramble around the Jets net. Any hopes the Perths had of getting back in contention were snuffed out in the first few minutes of the third period. Jamie Robb converted a pass from Jacques Cousineau at the 37 second mark and was right back less than three minutes later on a three-way effort with Cousineau and Jim Blake. Peter Pelcezny notched Stratford's second marker at 11.07 and before the game ended each team scored one more goal. Jim Blake was the Jets marksman on passes from Steve Proctor and Jim Pinnegar and John St. Cyr replied for the Perths. Dear Sports Editor, After attending the South Huron Hockey League playoff game March 16, between the Shipka Colonials and CCAT at the Zurich arena, I would like to take this opportunity to express my disgust at the manner of of- ficiating displayed by Pat O'Brien. Mr. O'Brien continues year after year to put on exhibitions of poor refereeing. I am sure that anyone reading this letter who has witnessed Mr. O'Brien of- ficiate a hockey game will agree with me. No one expects a referee to make all "good" calls, nor does anyone expect him to make all "bad" calls. The people who come out to SHHL games or any hockey game for that matter wish to see a fair and just match, not one marred by "slack whistle blowers." The Jets started the best-of- seven series on home ice Friday night with a convincing 7-3 victory and continued the same pattern with a 3.0 win in Stratford Sunday afternoon. The third game of the series was played at the Ilderton arena last night, Wednesday with the fourth slated for Stratford's Classic City arena Friday at 8.30 p.m. If a fifth game is necessary it will go at the Ilderton arena, Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m, The winner of the Stratford- Jets series will meet either the Barrie Flyers or Brantford Forresters in the first round of elimination on the way to the Allan Cup. This will be the first year, the Continental champion has had an opportunity to challenge for Canada's senior amateur championship. Total team effort Sunday's win in Stratford was accomplished on a complete team effort. Goalie Lorne Daer was sensational in keeping the Perths off the score sheet in recording his first shutout of the season. Commentators on the CJCS radio broadcast indicated Daer's shutout was the first recorded on Stratford ice in 'junior or senior competition in many years. In the same regard, the Jets defencemen and backchecking forwards were given accolades for their fine work. They were described as sticking to their JETS JOTTINGS — Playing Coach Jack Nairn said after Times-Advocate, April 3, 1975 Page 7 Excellent team effort Drive in soon!
