The executive of the Lucan-
Biddulph branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society met in Holy
Trinity Parish Hall, Wednesday
to plan the campaign. The
Coffee Party and annual kick-off
meeting will he held later than
usual because the speaker
wanted was not available the last
week in March,
Dr. Kay Stavraky of the
Department of Epidmiology and
Preventative Medicine,
University of Western Ontario
will be speaking at the United
Church, in the assembly room,
Wednesday, April 9 at 8 p.m. Her
subject will be "Intestinal
Cancer" and this meeting is open
to everyone,
The canvassers will pick up
their kits at that time, unless they
wish them earlier, in which event

Plan campaign, dance

The Lucan Irish are on the
verge of e]iminationas they trail
the Belmont Green Giants 3-0 in
the best four of-s&en semi-finals.
Tuesday night in the second
game of the series, Belmont
edged the home team by a 6-4
score.
With a minute and a half
remaining in the game and Lucan
trailing 5-3, Lucan pulled their
goaltender and the strategy
worked as they pulled to within
one goal. However, a few seconds
later Belmont added the final
goal of the game. Jim Maguire
led the Irish with a pair of goals
while Randy Kraul and Ed Robb
added singles.
Friday night's game in
Belmont was postponed due to
bad weather and the third game
was held Sunday afternoon in
Lucan. The outcome of the game
was never in doubt as Belmont
built up a 4-0 first period lead
while allowing Lucan just one
shot on net, Lucandid manage 21
shots the rest of the way but not
one went by the Belmont goalie
as Belmont shutout the Irish by a
10-0 score.

Nursery open house
The Lucan and District Co-
operative Nursery Association
will hold Open House on Tuesday,
March 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. and
Wednesday, March 19 from 7 to 9
p.m, The non-denominational
school is held in the St, Patrick's ,
Mini Hall at the corner of High-
way 4 and the Roman Line.
Everyone is invited to visit the
nursery school and chat with
those in charge,
while Cecil Nickles and Russ
Dann added singles,
Monday in Watford, Lucan
went ahead one game in the
series when they defeated
Watford 5-2, Lucan never trailed
in the game as the score was tied
1-1 after one period of play and
they upped their lead to 3-1 by the
end of the second. Jim Benn led
Lucan with three goals while
Gord Moon added a pair.
Bantam
The Lucan bantams defeated
Stoneybrook 5-3 in an exhibition
game, Martin Clarke led the
Bantam team with three goals
and two assists while Calvin
McCallum added two goals and
two assists.
Pee-wee
The Lucan pee-wees lost a pair
of exhibition games at
Hockeyland over the week.
Tuesday night Byron defeated
Lucan 4-2. Paul Wraith and Brad
DeGraw were the Lucan
marksmen. Saturday afternoon
Lucan was defeated 4-1 by South
London with Doug Latta scoring
the lone Lucan goal,
Atom
In the second game of their
Shamrock playoffs, the Lucan
atoms lost to Huron Park 4-0 in a
game played inHuron"Park on
Monday night. They managed to
hold Huron Park scoreless until
the third period when they
rapped in four successive goals,
Lucan Lions house league
The Aces shutout the Sabres 3-0
in bantam play with Brent
Stainton, Bob Toonders and Allan
Grace scoring for the Aces while
Danny Thompson recorded the
shutout.
In pee-wee action the Bombers
edged the Lions 3-2 while the
Barons defeated the Raiders 5-3
and the Thunderbirds defeated
the Blazers 5-1, Doug Cook led the
Bombers with two goals while
Shannon Rydall added one. Ken
Cocquyt scoredeboth of the Lions
goals.
Jeff VanPraete led the Barons
with two goals while Henry
Giesen, Greg Fisher and Todd
Wade added singles. Craig
DeGraw and Alan Maslen replied
for the Raiders.
In the Thunderbird-Blazer
game, Paul McGregor led the
Thunderbirds with two goals with
singles going to Mike Nevett, Don
Hardie and Bob Hayes, Andy
Sharp replied for' the Blazers.
In atom play the Bears edged
the Jets 1-0 while the Cougars
defeated the Wildcats by the
same 1-0 score. Ken Avery scored
the lone Bear goal while David
Petitt recorded the shutout.
Steve Neil blanked the Wildcats
while David Scott scored the lone
goal of the game.
Soccer group organized
At a recent organizational
meeting for a soccer club for
Lucan area, Bill Fowles was
elected president, Gary
Donaldson, secretary and Dave
Toonders, treasurer.
The next meeting will be held
March 13 at the Shillelagh Motor
Hotel which will be sponsoring
the club by providing white shirts
with green lettering.
Any man, 16 and over in-
terested in Soccer is invited to
this meeting.

Pentecostal
The annual World Day of
Prayer service for Lucan area
was held in the Pentecostal
Holiness Church on Friday af-
ternoon, with W. A. President
Mrs. Howard Currie in charge.
Mrs, Ewart Madden spoke on
the universal theme "Unity - We
are all perfectly one", others
taking part were Mrs. Robert
Anderson from St. Patrick's,
Mrs. Frank Hardy, Sr., Holy
Trinity, Mrs. James Lockyer,
U.C., Lucan, Mrs. Clarence
Carter, St. James and Mrs.
Charles Coughlin, Clandeboye
U.C.
Joan Lockyer and Cathy Hopps
sang a duet, to guitar ac-
companiment and Mrs. James

church banners
Members of the Lucan CGIT
have been very busy during the
month of February working on
60th anniversary banners to be
displayed in the church and.
community. These banners were
completed at the meeting
Tuesday evening.
The meeting was opened with
the CGIT purpose and hymn and
worship on the theme "Bespect",
was led by leader Mrs. Randy.
Paul. A test was given on
projects, completed since
October. Mrs, Wm. Froats,
Explorer Counsellor, was a guest
at the meeting.
Biddulph sets
warble program
At the March meeting of the
Biddulph Township Council it
was decided to attend the annual
Middlesex Municipal Association
meeting on March 19 at Komoka.
Word was received that
Ontario may initiate a Provincial
Lottery to raise money for sports,
recreation, culture and physical
fitness programs.
Application was made to the
Provincial Government for
approval of a $141,000 road
program for 1975.
Richard Gledhill was hired to
spray cattle for Warble Fly
Control at 22c per head, per
spray.
Court of Revision was closed on
the Essery Municipal Drain.
Building permits were
authorized as follows: Paul
Wallis, Lot 25, Con. 9, a house;
Ken Waugh, Lot 24, S.B, addition
to house; Peter Nippa, Lot 23,
Con. 3, addition to house.
Batter breads
for 4-H clubs
Meeting three of "The Baker's
Dozen" was held Saturday
morning at the home of leader
Mrs. John VanderLoo.
Brenda Boland, Jackie
Toonders and Karen Toohey
conducted a demonstration on the
making of "Batter Breads" and
"Brown Batter Rolls" and the
latter were eaten for lunch,
together with "Oatmeal Batter
Bread".
The leaders discussed with the
members convenient yeast
products comparing prices and
quality with the methods being
learned during the meetings.
