The Lucan-Ilderton Jets and
New Hamburg Screaming Eagles
are all tied up at a game apiece in
their Ontario Hockey Association
Senior Continental semi-final
series.
After winning the first game by
a 6-4 score Friday on home ice in
Ilderton the Jets were dropped 5-
2 in New Hamburg Sunday.
The third game of the best-of-
seven series was played in
Ilderton last night, Wednesday.
The fourth will be in New
Hamburg Sunday at 7.30 p.m. and
the fifth back in Ilderton Friday,
March 21 at 8.30 p.m.
In other playoff sets the
Stratford Perths and Durham
Huskies are tied at a game apiece
as are the London Kings and
Preston Jesters.
A poor start
The Jets got off to a disastrous
start Sunday in New Hamburg
finding themselves two goals
down after only 45 seconds of
play.
Loose defensive play by the
Jets allowed Tom Pierson of New
Hamburg to score at the five
second mark and he made it 2-0
only 40 seconds later.
At 5,48 of the initial period Bob
Zehr put his team three goals
ahead as he put the puck behind
Lorne Daer in the L-I net,
The Jets battled back from this
deficit with two successful shots
before the first period ended but
that's all they were able to get in
the rest of the game,
Jacques Cousineau started the
Lucan-Ilderton scoring at 15.05
when he was able to deflect a shot
from Jeff Craig into the opposing
net.
With only four seconds
remaining in the period Rick
Fifield finished off a three-way
effort with Barry Baynham and
Jack Nairn on a Jets power
'play.

In the second period, Daryl
Graham and Roger Kropf upped
the New Hamburg goal total to
five. Kropf's score came as an
attempted Jets power play back-
fired.
The third period was scoreless.
Behind early
The early pattern of Friday's
game in Ilderton was similar
with New Hamburg taking an
early lead but this time the Jets
were able to rebound and pull out
the victory in the third period.
The game was only two
minutes old when Dave Scherer
put the Screaming Eagles ahead
1-0. At 7.54 Jeff Craig hit the
mark for the first time for the
Jets as he moved in from the
blueline. Assists on the play went
to Larry Haugh and Jacques
Cousineau.
Don Culbert put the visitors a-
head again with less than two
minutes left in the opening
session.
At 11.22 of the middle period
Daryl Graham gave the New
Hamburg club a 3-1 lead. The
Jets were quick to react to this
deficit and were back on even
terms by the end of 40 minutes of
play.
Jacques Cousineau found
himself loose in front of the New
Hamburg net at 13.01 and was
able to convert a pass from Jeff
Craig.
With 27 seconds left in the
period, Pete Loveless evened the
score at 3-3 on a power play
started by Jeff Craig and Jack
Nairn.
Dick Doughty gave the Jets'the
lead for the first time at 3.56 of
the third period on a pass from
Rick Fifield but Ken Bast
squared matters again at 10.53.
Exactly seven minutes later
Jim Blake registered the even-
tual winning goal on a three-way
effort with Rick Fifield and
Barry Baynham. The goal came
on another Jets power play.
New Hamburg pulled their
goalie in the last minute to get the
tying goal but the move backfired
and Jets playing coach Jack
Nairn was able to score into the
empty net to put the victory in the
bag.
Lorne Daer was in goal for the
Jets in both playoff games
against New Hamburg. The other
net minder Sonny Pennington is
