The Exeter Bantams have
advanced to the third round in
Ontario Minor Hockey
Association playoffs and will
meet Amherstburg.
Tuesday night in Strathroy, the
local bantams scored a 5-3
victory to win the best-of-five
series three games to one with
one tied contest. Wednesday
night in Exeter the two teams
played to a 6-6 draw after Exeter
won the first two games.
No dates have been announce
for the next round against
Amherstburg.
Tuesday's win over Strathroy
came in the last four minutes of
play. Strathroy took a 3-2 lead
with only four minutes and 27
seconds left in the third period.
Paul Pooley then took over in
the scoring department for the
Exeter club with three quick
goals. The first came only 15
seconds after Strathroy had
taken the lead. It came on a pass
from Brad Taylor. "
The eventual winning goal by
Pooley came on a slap shot from
the blue line as he took a pass
from Dennis Preszcator and the
third successful shot went into an
empty Strathroy net with only 31
seconds remaining.
The first Exeter goal came in
Newby ahead
in Rec loop'
Newby Tire downed Les Pines
10-6 Thursday night to take a
three point first place lead in the
Exeter and district Rec hockey
league.
In the other game of the
doubleheader the North Stars
picked up their first point of the
season as they held Usborne
township to a 6-6 tie.
Tonight Thursday in the last
games of the schedule, Newby
Tire and the North Stars tangle in
the first of the twin bill at 8 p.m.
and Les Pines and Usborne meet
at 9:30 p.m.
Dale Skinner turned in a hat
trick performance to pace the
Newby scoring attack. Bob
McDonald was next in line with a
two goal effort and Jim Dingwell,
Gary Parsons, Bob Jones and
Jim McDonald added singles.
Bob Rowe fired three suc-
cessful shots as the top Les Pines
marksman. Getting one goal
apiece were Paul Mason, Steve
Willert and Peter Mason.
The tie for the North Stars was
accomplished on three unan-
swered goals in the last 12
minutes of the third period. Perry
Matson was best for the North
Stars with a three goal effort. Al
Knight was a two goal scorer and
John Hayman added a single
counter.
Larry Skinner notched two
goals for Usborne and Ray Mills,
Dick Lord, Ron Dougall and
Dennis Passmore fired one
successful shot each.

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets need
one victory in their last three
starts in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior Continental
league to nail down first place in
the league standings.
The Jets picked up an easy two.
points Friday night when their
scheduled home game with the
Woodstock Royals was post-
poned. Woodstock decided not to
appear and forfeited when they
could only round op eight players
and this did not include a goal

Sunday afternoon at the
Ilderton arena, the Jets came up
with a resounding 7-2 win over the
Preston. Jesters.
In remaining games this week
to round out the schedule, the
Jets travel to Lambeth tonight,
Thursday to take on the London
Kings, they will be at the Ilderton
arena Friday night to meet the
New Hamburg Screaming Eagles
and Tuesday night they will be in
Preston to play a previously
postponed game against the
Jesters,
Rick Fifield set the league's
scoring championship Sunday
when he scored two goals, It ran
his season total to 44, The old
mark was 42.
Scoring three times was
veteran forward Doug Galloway.
The only other Jet in addition to
Galloway and Fifield to hit the
scoreboard was Jacques
Cousineau with two successful
shots.
Five of the seven goals scored
by the L-I club against Preston
came on power plays with the
Jets enjoying a one man ad-
vantage. A sixth goal came with
the clubs playing five aside.
In the first six minutes of play,
Doug Galloway scored twice and
his club was never headed, Jack
Nairn assisted on both goals and
Rick Fifield and Pete Loveless
picked up single assists.
Cousineau put the Jets ahead 3-
at 7.59 on passes from Jamie
Robb and Jim Blake before John
Chambers fired the first Preston
marker only 25 seconds later,
In the second period, Rick
Fifield scored his first two goals,
only four minutes apart. Barry
Baynham and Larry Haugh
assisted on both. Ted Goertzen
replied for the Jesters in
middle frame,
Third period counting was
taken care of by Galloway and
Cousineau as they completed
their afternoon's scoring.
Galloway notched his by taking
a pass from Jack Nairn as he was
moving behind the net and
sneaked the puck around the
post. Loveless also helped.
Jamie Robb and Barry
Baynham drew assists on
Cousineau's final score,
The Jets were ahead on shots
on goal by 42-34. Lorne Daer was
in goal for Lucan-Ilderton and
turned in a good effort.
Tuesday in Stratford, the Jets
blew a 6-3 lead with less than five
minutes to play in the third
period and allowed the Perths to
tie the game and eventually win
7-6 in overtime.
The Jets hold down first place
with 48 points, Stratford is second
with 45 points and the London
Kings are in third only one point
farther back.
Rick Fifield was best in the
scoring department for the Jets
Tuesday with another hat trick to
run his season total to 47 goals.
The Perths took a 2-1 first
period lead but the Jets roared
back with four scores in the
second without a reply from the
opposition and were comfortably
ahead 5-2.
John McLean and Mitch
Kennedy were the Stratford
marksmen while Bill Fairbairn
hit for the Jets on passes from
Bill White and Larry Haugh.
In the middle frame, Fifield hit
with two shots and Jamie Robb
and Jack Nairn added singles.
Fifield's first came on a direct
pass from the face-off from Bill
White and the second with help
from Larry Haugh and Dick
Doughty.
Robb's goal was unassisted on
a good second effort and Nairn
completed a play with Doug
Galloway and Steve Proctor.
Ron Scholl scored for Stratford
early in the final session and only
seconds later Fifield scored
again this time with the help of
Nairn and Galloway to complete
the Jets counting for the night.
The Perths broke loose with
goals by Ron Scholl, Jim Betts
and Terry Uniac in the last five
minutes to tie the score and
Uniac counted again at 3.57 of
overtime to send the Jets down to
defeat.
Atom "B' lose
first in Shamrock
The Exeter atom "B" club
dropped a 2-1 decision to Lucan
Sunday in the first game of a
best-of-three Shamrock league
playoff series. The date for a
second game has not been set.
Trevor Boyle opened the
scoring for Exeter at 4,27 of the
second period on a pass from Jim
Siddall and only two minutes
later Steve Glenn tied the score
for Lucan. Glenn was back in the
third period to fire the winning
shot.
In an exhibition game Satur-
day, the Exeter team lost 5-4 to
Zurich on a goal in the last
minute of play.
Trevor Boyle led the Exeter
scoring attack with a two goal
effort while single scores were
notched by Scott Brintnell and
Danny Becker.
David Smith and Mark Kirk
with two goals apiece were best
for Zurich. Paul Johnston added
the odd counter for the winners.

Wednesday's game which
ended in a 6-6 tie was close from
start to finish and went 10
minutes overtime. Each team
scored twice in the extra 10
minute session,
1n regulation time, Randy
Parsons scored twice for Exeter
and Perry and Paul Pooley each
added single scores. Strathroy
tied the game with two goals in
the last three minutes of play as
the Exeter club seemed to let up.
In overtime, Dave Bogart put
the locals ahead in the first 13
SH playoffs
underway
The semi-final playoffs in the
South Huron intermediate hockey
league are now underway.
The Zurich Flyers are meeting
the Exeter Mohawks in one round
and the Shipka Colonials and
Centralia College are tangling in
the other set. Both series are of
the best-of-seven variety.
In Zurich, Sunday afternoon,
the Zurich Flyers edged the
Exeter Mohawks 7-6. The second
game is scheduled for the Exeter
arena, Friday night at 8.30 p.m.
with the third back in Zurich
Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Mohawks took command of
the game early and held a 5-3 at
the end of the second period. The
Zurich team came back strong
with three goals in less than three
minutes early in the third period.
Ron Desjardine was the top
scorer for the Flyers with a two
goal effort. Adding single scores
were Ron Rader, Bob Farquhar,
Pat Bedard, Ken Smale and Jim
Ramer,
Jack Glover led the Mohawks
scoring attack with a three goal
performance. The balance of
Exeter goals came in single
fashion from Larry Willert, Brad
Datars and Gary Parsons.
In the other semi-final, the
Shipka Colonials scored a 4-3 win
over Centralia College, Tuesday
night in Zurich. Further dates in
the series have not been finalized.
Shipka scoring came in single
fashion from Larry Laye, Dan
Dalton, Reid Burley and Jim
Hoffman.

HP minors ,
fall behind
Two Huron Park minor teams
have fallen two games back in
their respective series in the
third round of Ontario Minor
Hockey Association playoffs.
In pee wee action, Langton
scored victories over Huron Park
by scores of 4-0 and 5-4 and in the
midget division, Langton leads on
the strength of 7-1 and 6-0
decisions.
The first pee wee contest saw
Langton outplay Huron Park by a
good margin but the second game
was much closer. Scoring for
Huron Park were Steve Gibbs,
Mike Sutherland, Ralph Wells
and Tony Underhill. Gibbs also
picked up two assists.
Both midget games were
penalty riddled. Huron Park was
assessed a total of 97 minutes in
the two games. The only goal for
HP came from the stick of Randy
Somerville on a pass from Alan
Laurin.
In Shamrock playoffs this
week, the Huron Park bantams
blanked Dorchester 3-0. Mark
Cronyn led the scoring attack
with a pair of goals and Perry
Healey added a single.
The final Shamrock league
game of the season saw the
Huron Park atoms edge Lucan 4-
2. Steve O'Neill was best with a
three goal performance and
David Murray added the fourth
counter.
In the only ladies game' of the
week, the Huron Parkettes
blanked Lucan 1-0 on a successful
shot by Anne 'B' Lewis.
