The first place lead of the Lucan-Ilderton Jets in the On- tario Hockey Association Senior Continental league has increased to three points. The Jets came up with a key win over the second place Strat- ford Perths in Ilderton Sunday afternoon to run their season total to 34 points. They have scored 17 victories and suffered only seven losses. The Stratford Perths have 31 points and the London Kings follow in third place with 28 points. The Jets downed the Preston Jesters 8-5 Friday and came back with a convincing 8-2 over the Perths, Sunday. In action this week, the Jets will be at home at the Ilderton arena, Friday at 8.30 to the New Hamburg Screaming Eagles and Sunday they travel to Durham for a 2 p.m. contest with the pesky Huskies. Take advantage of penalties The Jets took advantage of a couple of Stratford penalties near the midway mark of the se- cond period and scored three times in 29 seconds to jump into a 5-1 lead which proved to be in- surmountable. With the Jets holding on to a slim2-1 lead and Dick Doughty in the penalty box, the Perths were putting on the pressure when John St. Cyr received a five minute penalty for high sticking. Add to this a misconduct to Stratford coach John Campbell along with a two minute assess- ment for delay of game to give the Jets a two man advantage as soon as Doughty returned to the ice. Jamie Robb converted passeis from Jack, Nairn and Barry Bayntarmat'11.10 of the middy frame and in the next 29 second Rick Fifield found the range with two successful shots. Jim Blake assisted on both goals by Fifield and Robb and Don Carter added single assists. In the first period, Jim Blake combined with Jamie Robb and Barry Baynham for the first L-I score and Baynham tipped in a shot by Robb for the second. Blake also helped. The first Stratford goal came at the five minute mark of the se- cond period from the stick of Mitch Kennedy. At 5.17 of the third, Charlie Robertson notched the final goal for Stratford before the Jets counted three more times. Jack Nairn upped the score to 6-2 when he scored unassisted from behind the Stratford net at 9.12. About four minutes later Jets goalie Sonny Pennington passed to Terry Johnson at the blue line and Johnson sent a pass up to Barry Baynham near centre ice. Baynham was just hopping out of thetoorspcenea.lty box and went in alone The final score came from the stick of Jamie Robb for his se- cond goal of the afternoon on a pass from Terry Johnson. Two goals in the third period RON LEFLORE proved to give the Jets enough momentum to score Friday's 8-5 win over Preston. One of the game's oddities allowed Preston to score three of their five goals with a Jester in the penalty box and the Jets applying power play pressure. Rick Fifield was the top goal scorer for the Lucan-Ilderton club with a three goal effort. The third goal was fired into an emp- ty net as the Jesters had six men on the attack. Fifield opened the game scor- ing with a successful shot at the 46 second mark on passes from Jamie Robb and Jim Blake. Before the first period was over Fifield had scored again and Steve Proctor found the scoring mark with two shots. Assists on the last three L-I goals went to Doug Galloway Larry Haugh, Terry Johnson, Jim Blake and Jamie Robb. Dave May, John Leclaire and Roy Caswell were the first period goal scorers for the Jesters. In the second period each team scored twice. Bruce Davey and Dave May registered for Preston while Barry Baynham and Jim Blake replied for the Jets, Baynham's goal came on a blazing slap shot on a play started by Dick Doughty and Jack Nairn while Blake registered with help from Jamie Robb and Barry Baynham.
