of Mrs, Lee Webber on Monday
evening,

Hold first centennial service
tell history in sermon, song
and in 1875 a Methodist Episcopal
Church was built where the
United Church now stands, In
1897 a new church was built on
the same property and it was in
commemoration of this
dedication of this church on
January 16, 1898 that the special
service was held last Sunday.

her grandparents Mr. & Mrs.
Harvey Ovens of Clandeboye
entertain her cousins and Rev.
Mr. & Mrs. Leroy Davis and
three children from Kaimose,.
Kenya Africa and her great aunt
and uncle Mr. & Mrs. Charles
Lindsay Springfield Ontario on
Friday evening.
Mr. & Mrs. Davis and family
are home on furlough for one
year from the mission field in
Kenya, Mr. Davis has been busy
touring to various places in
Canada and United States. The
evening was highlighted when the
Davis' showed slides taken on the
field and many other interesting
places they have travelled.
WI meets
Fourteen WI members
gathered for their January
meeting at the home of Mrs. R.
Worthington on Wednesday af-
ternoon. After the opening
exercises Mrs. Beulah Hardy,
Lucan showed her slides, taken of
her trip to Hawaii and Australia
and California.
Mrs. A. Lewis gave a motto and
contest on the flowers of each
province and Mrs. C. Hardy won
the contest. Mrs. B. Henry and
Mrs. 0. Hodgins assisted Mrs. R.
Worthington with the service.
The February 12 meeting will
be in the afternoon at Mrs. D.
Kestles.

returned home from hospital,
Monday.
Mr. & Mrs. Joe Cunningham
and girls Wilfred. Cunningham,
Ian Carter, Mr. & Mrs. D. Kestle
and Janis visited with Mrs. W.
Cunningham in St. Joseph's
Hospital Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. W. Cunningham is now
taking therapy and is able to get
around with the walker and hopes

January meeting Wednesday
evening. Worship service theme
was "I am the Light of the
World." with Mrs. Edgar Baker
and Mrs. Harry Hem giving

readings with Bible quotes.
Several New Year's readings
were read namely, "Another
year another chance," "A New
Year thought and opportunity.!'
Mrs. Harry Hern introduced
the new study pamphlets on
"Mission begins with you and Our
changing role in mission. Mrs.
Ray Jaques president convened
for the business.
Mrs. Orville Snell, Grimsby
spent the weekend with her
mother, Mrs. Ephriam Hern.
Miss Linda Hern of Victoria
Hospital school of nursing,
London spent the weekend with
her parents Mr. & Mrs. Bob Hero,

with Mr. & Mrs, Jack Dickins,

Mrs. Ed Armstrong has
returned home from St. Joseph's
Hospital and is progressing very
well. She is able to be up and
around again.
Rosch family lost one member
of their goat herd on Saturday
when the gale force wind hurled
an object and cut the goat's neck.
The loss of so much blood forced
the family to destroy the billy.
The Bible Study group met
Tuesday evening at the home of
Mr. & Mrs. J. Robertson.
The anthems ,by the choirs en-
titled "As the years go by" and
"Building, daily building" and a
former ladies quartette, Mrs,
Elsie 13rophey, Ruby Isaac;
Dorothy Young of Lucan and Lois
Thompson, Lieury singing "I am
Listening" were in perfect
harmony with the message
delivered by the pastor,
,After receiving briefly the
beginnings of the church in this
area, the speaker pointed out the
the great need of the world today
to seek the remedy for its sins in.

The United Church Women
held their January meeting
Wednesday at the home of Mr. &
Mrs. Ross Brown, Mrs. Lawrence
Curts chose some New Year
thoughts as her theme for the
opening devotions. Mrs. Milton
Pollock, using the current 50th
anniversary issue of the United
Church Observer, gave an in-
teresting discourse on how the
United Church came into being in
1925 and reviewed some of the
highlights of its activities down
through the years.
The usual routine of business
was transacted.
Letters of appreciation were
read from recipients of Christ-
mas boxes, activities for the
coming year were discussed and
the various committee ap-
pointments were confirmed.
Following the meeting Evelyn
Curts assisted the hostess in
serving lunch.

wood have returned home from a
holiday with relatives in Win-
nipeg.
Mrs. Harold McDonald,
London was a weekend visitor
with Lilliam Ulens,
Mr, & Mrs. Ross Picklering,
Shipka, visited Sunday with Mr.
& Mrs. Cecil Smithers.
By the way: It was so windy
last Saturday that one of my hens
laid the same egg four times.
