Two Exeter minor hockey
teams and about 25 enthusiastic
parents travelled to Trenton
Michigan Saturday to participate
in a two day series with the home
team.
The Exeter Broncos broke even
in atom division play dropping a
4-2 decision to Trenton Saturday
coming on unassisted efforts.
Scott Batten with a three goal
Performance powered the.
Broncos to their 5-0 win over
Trenton Sunday, The first Batten
marker came on a pass from
Dave Shaw, the second was the
result of passes from Tom Coates
and Bill Glover and the hat trick
was completed on the conversion
of a Tom Coates pass.
The other Exeter goals came
on an unassisted effort by
Bill Glover and Scott Pincombe's
successful shot on a play started

Waxers victors
in exhibition tilt
The Exeter Waxers scored a 3-0
Thursday win over Grand Bend
in an exhibition novice hockey
game played at the Exeter arena.
The Waxers notched one goal in
each period to gain the victory
and two of the goals came on
unassisted efforts.
George Pratt and Brent
Dawson fired the goals on solo
efforts and Darren Vandergunst
hit the mark on a pass from Steve
Batten.
The Lucan-Ilderton, Jets .Split a
pair of games this week In
Ontario Hockey Association

but were able to hold .onto first

In Thursday's regular action of
the Exeter and district Rec
hockey league, Les Pines downed
Newby Tire by a score of 6-1 and
Usborne dumped the North Stars

The Les Pines scoring was well
spread with six perfprmers
getting one goal apiece. Scoring

Pfaff, Ron Dougall, Tim Ross and
Rob Morley added singles.
Scoring for North Star were
Chris Daniel, Don Harvey, Larry
Brintnell and Don Hart.
Tonight Thursday Newby Tire
and North Star meet at 8 p.m.
while Usborne and Les Pines will
square off at 9.30 p.m.
The Jets have amassed 15
victories in 22 starts for a total of
30 points, one more than the
runner-up Stratford Perths. The
London Kings are third with 26
points.
Friday night, the Perths took
Over the top spot temporarily
with a 6-3 victory over the Jets in
Ilderton but the L-I club came
right back with a convincing 10-2
win over the New Hamburg
Screaming Eagles, Sunday af-
ternoon.
The Jets swing back into action
Friday night when they travel to
Preston to meet the Jesters, They
will be back home at the Ilderton
arena, Sunday afternoon at 2
p.m, when the Stratford Perths
will again supply the opposition.
Take big lead
Against New Hamburg the Jets
scored four goals in each of the
first two periods before the
Screaming Eagles were able to
reach the scoreboard.
The game was only two
minutes old when Rick Fifield
scored his first of four goals on a
solo effort. Jack Nairn made it 2-0
on passes from Pete Loveless and
goalie Lorne Daer at 10.36.
Before the first session was
over Jamie Robb scored from
Fifield and Terry Johnson and
Jim Blake converted a pass from
Larry Haugh.
In the middle frame Fifield and
Blake each hit the mark again.
Jamie Robb assisted on both
scores.
Steve Proctor registered on
passes from Jack Nairn and Dick
Doughty and Doug Galloway
finished off a passing play with
Larry Haugh and Rick Campbell.
In the final 20 minutes of play
Fifield completed his four goal
night with two successful shots
while Tom Pearson and Roger
Kropf replied for New Hamburg.
Jamie Robb assisted on both L-
I goals for a five point night. Also
picking up assists were Jeff Craig
and Jim Blake.
The Jets outshot New Hamburg
52-40 in a cleanly played contest
with no penalties being called by
referee Frank Slota.
Shorthanded goals hurt
In IldertOn Friday night, the
Stratford Perths were able to
score two goals when they were
playing shorthanded and grabbed
a 4-1 first period lead over the
Jets.
Jets manager Don Urbshott
commented on the game "when
they scored twice on our power
and coming back strong Sunday
to score a 5-0 victory,
The Exeter pee wees were
unable to get much of a scoring
attack going as they were on the
short end of 4-1 and 5-1 scores,

Bill Glover and Dave Shaw were
the Exeter marksmen, both goals
Wrestlers busy
in tournaments
Wrestlers from South Huron
District High School participated
in three meets and tournaments
this week.
Thursday in regular Huron-
Perth Conference action South
Huron scored a 60-21 victory over
Goderich, Friday a novice
tourney was held at Catholic
Central in London for six schools
and Saturday some local grap-
plers participated in a 13 team
tournament in Sarnia Northern
Collegiate.
Winning matches against
Goderich were Dan Mittelholtz,
Murton Brock, Mike Westelaken,
Mark Paton, Don Van Raay, Rick
Skinner, Steve Jennison, Marc
Gelinas and Paul Kristoferson.
Winning their divisions in the
novice meet were Dave Lovell,
Cliff Hicks and Vince Winters.
Mike Westelaken was named
the best wrestler of the week 'and
shared the fastest pia award with
Dave Lovell. The most im-
proved grappler was Cliff Hicks.

Bantams get
victory
In a Shamrock bantam "A"
game played Tuesday Exeter
dumped Strathroy by a 7-3 score.
The Pooley brothers took care
of most of the Exeter scoring with
five of the six goals collected by
the winners.
In the first period, Perry
Pooley triggered two successful
shots with assists going to Brian
Mercer and Dave Bogart.
The only second period score
was as the result of the same
combination of Perry Pooley
from Mercer and Bogart.
In the third period Brian
Mercer scored on a pass from
Perry Pooley and Paul Pooley
fired two unassisted scores.
In the 5-2 Monday night loss to
Strathroy Dave Bell and Rick
Lindenfield scored the Exeter
pee wee goals. Jeff Fuller drew
assists on both scores.
A freshman home from
university advanced some
theories that his parents thought
were a bit far out. His father
stood it as long as he could before
shouting, "I sent you to college to
get an education, not a lot of
ideas!"

Sportsmen's Dinner in Exeter
will be Mike Jorgensen of the
Montreal Expos.
Jorgensen will give the Expos
representation at the Lions Club
dinner for the second straight
year. Last year Tim Foli at-
tended.
Actually Jorgensen and Foli
came to the Montreal club in the
5 same trade with the New York
Mets for Rusty Staub.
At the end of the 1973 season,
Jorgensen was named to the
Sporting News National league
all-star fielding team. He is
considered to be one of the finest
fielding first basemen in baseball
today.
The same year he made only
five errors in 138 games while
handling a total of 1,075 chances.
This is an average of .995,
The 26 year-old native of
Passaic, New Jersey got off to a
flying start with the Expos hitting
a home run off Bob Gibson of the
Cardinals in his first trip to the
plate to start the 1972 season.
New loop
needs help
The proposed men's recreation
basketball league involving
teams from Seaforth and Exeter
is receiving a boost from another
area.
After a Lake Huron Zone
recreation meeting, Tuesday,
Exeter rec director Jim
McKinlay reports Goderich will
field a team to allow the league to
get undeiway.
The emergence of the Gdderich
team will allow formation of a
league of two teams from
Seaforth and one each from
Goderich and Exeter.
McKinlay is asking all players
in the Exeter area who were
originally interested to contact
his office by Friday evening, The
number is 235-0391.
The original proposal had two
teams from Exeter. McKinlay
now is hopeful of fielding one
good club. He said the original
nights to be used as playing dates
may be revised to accommodate
some of the players.
