Unit II UCW
Unit II of Hensall UCW met on
Monday evening at the Church.
Sadie Hoy acted as chairman and
opened the meeting with a New
Year's thought, taken from
Revelations.
Eleanor Mansfield gave the
devotional using scripture from
John, Her meditation was en-
titled "Hats off to the past, coats
off to the future," This was
followed by prayer and a hymn.
Peggy Forrest gave the study,
which was prepared by Fran
Mickle. It was an article from the
Readers Digest on Dr. Bethune.
In 1972 it was declared by the
Canadian Government that his
life was to be of National historic
significance,
The business consisted of the
Annual meeting and pot luck
dinner on January 29 at 6:30;
UCW Church service on
February 23, with Rev. Ann
Graham Langford as the guest
speaker; the World Day of
Prayer, March 7 at 3 p.m. in
Hensall United Church.
The roll call was answered by
15 members by paying dues and
' relating a New Years thought.
Correspondence read was thank
you notes from Ann Brock and
Diane Gerstenkorn.
Celebrate
Anniversary
Mr. & Mrs. Fred Brock
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary at their home at
Richmond Street in Hensall on
January 12. In, the afternoon their
relatives, friends and neighbours
enjoyed a social time with them.
They were the recipients of
beautiful flowers, gifts and many
cards. They also received
telephone congratulations.
Leaving for a week's visit with
her sister, my wife handed me a
gallon of paint and a four-inch
brush. "Honey," she said, "in
case you feel like painting the
town as soon as I'm gone, how
about starling with the basement
floor?"

Report on 1.ieut. Governor
announce spring leaders
On January 9, Unit 1 Hensall
U.C.W. met in the church. Anita
Cook presided and read a
meditation "It's a busy world". A
hymn was sung with Belva Fuss
at the piano.
Anita read a poem"No time for
God". Her scripture was taken
from Luke 14, the parable of the
great feast. This was followed by
her devotional message, the
theme "Priorities for the New
Year". She reminded everyone
that we each have twenty-four
hours a day, and when we feel we
have too many things to do, we
should use this time doing what is
most important. She finished her
message with a thoughtful
quotation "Time was invented by
Almighty God, in order to give
ideas a chance."
Following praier, the group
repeated the Lord's Prayer in
unison. Offering was taken and
dedicated by Anita, and a hymn
was sung. The minutes of the last
meeting and the correspondence
was read. Twelve members
answered the roll call and paid
membership fees.
Doreen Spencer reviewed the
highlights of last years study
book and then introduced the new
study book "Mission begins with
you" — a mission beginning with
The Citizenship and World
Affairs meeting of the Hensall
W.I, was held Wednesday
evening in the Legion Hall. The
meeting opened with 0 Canada,
The Ode and the Collect.
President Hilda Payne welcomed
members and guests, The roll
call was answered by sixteen
members with "the way the
atomic age is changing our
lives".

Corbett were the programme
conveners, which started by
everyone singing "The Maple
Leaf Forever". Mrs. Phyllis
Deichert of Zurich gave everyone
a brief outline of her work with
music which she and her pray.

daughter, Elizabeth favoured
everyone by singing vocal
selections with Elizabeth ac-
companying on the guitar, Hazel
Corbett gave a reading on Rome.

Miss Margaret May Jarrott,
retired public school teacher,
passed away in Stratford General
FIospital Stratford Ontario on
Sunday January 12 in her 82nd
year.
Daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs.
Isaac Jarrott of this area, she
resided at RR 3, Embro after
retirement.
Sister of Dr. Gilbert C. Jarrott,
RR 3, Embro. Predeceased by a
brother Dr. James Jarrott,
London.
The funeral service was held
from the Heinbuck Funeral
Home Stratford on Monday
January 13, conducted by the
Rev. James Ferguson of St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church,
Former bank
manager dies
Harry A. Lawrence, formerly
of the Bank of Montreal, London
and formerly with the Bank' of
Montreal in Hensall, passed
away in Ottawa Hospital, Sun-
day, January 5.
He was the husband of Edna
Taggart and brother of 011ie
Coghlan, Hamilton and Mrs.
Annie Sutor, Cayuga, Ontario.
Funeral service was held
Wednegday January 8 from Hulse;
and Playfair Central Chapel,, 315"
McLeod Street, Ottawa.
Interment in Hall's Cemetery
Wakefield, Quebec in the spring.

they were representing. They
then sang "It's a small World".

Joyce Pepper introduced
Jessie McAllister who gave a
very interesting talk on Pauline
McGibbon, Lieutenant Governor
of Canada. She told about
Pauline's life, from childhood
through school days and later life
as Lieutenant Governor. She also
showed some pictures that she
had collected, Jessie also read a
news letter from The Federated
Naturalists concerning doing
'away with non returnable bottles.
Janis Bisback read minutes of
the December meeting.
Treasurer Marg Ingram gave a
financial report. A special
collection was taken for Brother
Bob in India.
Leaders for the two 4-H clubs
for the club coming up in the
spring were announced. They are
Belva Fuss and Kathy Fuss for
Club 1, and Mrs. Dirk Van Wieren
and Janis Bisback for club 2.
Correspondence consisted of a 4-
H leaders Training School to be
held on January 30, 31, at the
Hensall United Church for the
spring project "What shall I
wear", Ministry of Agriculture
and Food announcing Senior
Leaders Training school to he
held February 6, 7 in Clinton for
the project "Baked in a pie".
Hilda Payne told about the two
R.N.A. Graduate
Kathy Ferguson, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Lloyd Ferguson, Hensall,
graduated December 20 from the
Ontario Government R.N.A.

patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London ,was able to return to her
home.
Mrs. Margaret Barnard,
returned home after spending the
past two months in Florida,
Rev, W. D. Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
Church on Sunday. The sermon
was "Our Search for Life's
Purpose." The Sacrament of
Baptism will be given at the
service next Sunday.

visited recently with Mr. & Mrs.
James Sangster and Bradley.
Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Gackstetter
and family of Exeter have taken
up residence in the dwelling they

disposed of her property has
taken up residence in Exeter.
Mrs. Daisy Ivey is a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
with a fractured hip.

United Church notes
Don and Gail Travers provided
the special music for the service
of worship in Hensall United
Church on Sunday morning. They
sang a duet accompanied on the
piano by Tom Travers. Rev. Don
Beck preached on the sermon
topic "On choosing life".
Next Sunday will be the United
Church's 50th anniversary
celebration, as well, we will be
celebrating 50 years of service to
the Hensall choir by a faithful
member, Harry Horton. Refresh-
ments are to follow this service.
Wednesday evening, January 29
will be the Pot Luck Dinner and
Annual meeting of the Hensall
congregation, and January 30
will be the Pot Luck dinner and
annual meeting for the
Chiselhurst congregation.
