FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA Large congregations, including many visitors, attended morning and evening services in the United Church on Sunday when the 'Sellwoods', an outstanding group of Gospel singers from Toronto, made their second appearance in the Centralia church and delighted their listeners with their ministry of music. The subject chosen by Rev. Beaton for his sermon at the Morning service was "Enoch Walked with God", The pot luck luncheon in the church schoolrooms following the morning service provided a time of fellowship which was enjoyed by all. IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD In honor of their parents' 50th wedding anniversary, the Messner children held open house Sunday, November 24th, when over 150 neighbors and friends called to extend their best wishes. The Messners have four children, Helmuth, Martha, Frieda, and Anna. Present for the occasion were Mrs. Helmuth Messner, Carol and Angela; Mr. & Mrs. Charles Fenger (Martha) and Michael; Mrs. Frieda Nielson, David, Norma Jean, and Jim; and Mrs. Anna Wissing. They also have 4 great grandchildren. Fred Messner married Anna Wagner in Feuerback, Germany in November 1924, They were distressed by the rising costs in Germany and leaving Anna behind, Fred came to Canada to see if things were better. He settled in Dashwood and sent for his wife and they have been residents of Cana-cla every since. They have been loyal members of Zion Lutheran church since 1928. Both Mr. and Mrs. Messner are enjoying fairly good health. In honor of the occasion, the children had flowers on the altar Sunday morning; the grand- children sponsored the Lutheran Hour on CKNX and Mr, & Mrs. Messner donated to the building fund of Zion Lutheran church. 4-H tea Dashwood 4-H girls club no. 2 held a tea for all the members of Dashwood W.I. and mothers of the girls. The theme was Christmas. Club president, Carol Rader welcomed everyone and Elizabeth Datars read the roll call and gave the minutes of the last meeting. Several of the girls entertained with musical num- bers. Court Whist was played with winners, ladies, Cathy Keller; girls, Theresa VanRaay; low, ladies, Frieda Hayter; girls, Sandra Schroeder; lucky chair, Martha Weigand. Mrs. Weigand also thanked the girls and leaders for a lovely evening. The Tea Totin Twelve The Tea Totin Twelve 4-H club no. 3 held the 5th meeting at Mrs. Delmar Miller's home. The girls decided what they would do for Achievement Day. Then the leaders led the girls in a discussion about themes for parties. The girls discussed and wrote wedding invitations and replies. Then they decided on time and place for their party. Personals Helmuth Messner, Peter Brown, and Mrs. Viola Wood, London, visited with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Messner, Saturday. Mr. & Mrs.. Len Bachert, St. Catharines, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Pusche, Saskatchewan, visited with Mr. & Mrs. Albert Miller. Mrs. Louis Higinell accompanied them and spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Messner. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Miller and girls, Zion, were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Dave Rader and Stacey. Pauline Scott, Crediton, was a weekend visitor. Mr. & Mrs. Harold Maine, Kitchener, were weekend visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Reinhold Miller. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Adams at- tended the funeral of the latter's brother, W.J. Clarke at Willowdale last week. Mrs. Amelia Willert underwent surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mrs. Ruth Anne Merner was in Toronto on the weekend where she attended an Art show and exhibited some of her crafts. She will also be exhibiting at the Art show at the London Public Library this coming weekend. Mrs. Sid Smith, Wyoming, is convalescing at the home of her daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Boyle and family. Mr. & Mrs Earl Greenlee were guests of Mr. & Mrs. John Haskett, Denfield on Sunday, they had dinner at the Old Mill Restaurant, Parkhill, The ladies of St. Patrick's church catered to the annual Pigeon Club banquet at the Memorial arena in Lucan Saturday night. Mr. & Mrs. Heber Davis were guests at a birthday dinner for Hilton Roberts, Lucan at the 'Old Mill', Parkhill Sunday evening. Mrs. Roberts was hostess. He is a graduate of Waterloo Lutheran University and will be in charge of planning and co- ordinating of conservation and parks for the Authority.T-A photo Give advice to halt fumes The ministry of the en- vironment this week suggested that the odors from diesel trucks could be eliminated if the operators put a plastic hose from the exhaust into a barrel of water. The information came after council had requested some assistance to answer complaints from neighbors of Don Haines, Carling St., who operates three diesel trucks to pull mobile homes.
