T-A photo Exeter 235-2200 By ADRIAN VOS, Last week I wrote that a friend of mine had been fined for driving on the shoulder of the road to let traffic pass by. As a result I got a call from the chief of the Wingham OPP, advising me that this can't be true, for there's nothing in the Highway Traffic Act that would authorize a police officer to lay such a charge. At the time of writing I have not been able to contact my friend for an explanation. It appears then that a farmer driving a slow tractor is allowed to go on the shoulder to let faster traffic pass. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. The National Association of Canadian Credit Unions some time ago published some tolling definitions and here they are: Add-on, - You borrow $100 and immediately you owe $106 or more. - You only get $94 but you owe the $100 you wanted in the first place, 6 percent, a term for true annual interest rates of '18 percent or more.tRefinancing - your golden opportunity to owe more money and to pay a higher rate at the same time. Low service charge 7 That means 11/2 percent on the balance' owing each month. Low down payment - The finance charges are high. Investigation fee - They phone your neighbour and it cost you two dollars. Penalty - What it cost you to pay back a loan before you said you would. The Credit Union claims to be more straight- forward. Max Saltsman, NDP member of Parliament, introduced or will introduce a Bill in the House, making it a criminal offence to destroy food as a protest. This as a result of the killing of dairy calves in Quebec, It shouldn't, but it amazes me every time how much hot air these politicians have in them. Even Ontario's Agricultural Minister Stewart jumped on the band-wagon to condemn these greedy Quebeckers. He, of all people, should know that those milk producers don't make much profit on milk production and have for the last five years depended heavily on the European market for bull calves. This market is closed and the dairy man there can't afford to lose money on them so, he kills them. He has been doing it all his life quietly. To draw attention he now did it publicly. champion gilt.
