Mrs, Stirling Graham, Cromarty, the first president, cut the birthday cake and spoke briefly about the happenings during her thirteen years as president. Members present who joined during the first year were Dorothy Bell, Grace Eyre, Rena Caldwell, Carrie Graham, Annie Cole, Doreen Chappel, Gertrude Clark, Laura Barr, Audrey Munn and Sadie Simpson. Mrs. J. McLellan was the winner of the lucky cup and Francis Kinsman had the bir- thday nearest December 6, the 'date the organization was for- med. The sixty members and former members answered the roll call by giving a memory of an in- cident that happened during her years as a member, This proved interesting and humorous. Margaret Hoggarth gave a humorous reading. The text of the sermon was "The woman of Samaria". The church trio led in the singing 'of the hymns. Mrs. Betty Smith of Huron Park sang two solos, "There is above all others" and "I found a friend". United church notes Members of the Hensall Legion and Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Girl Guides were guests at the Hensall United Church for the service of Remembrance, Sunday morning. Rev. Don Beck preached on the sermon topic "To begin again", and the choir sang the anthem "Soldiers of Christ arise", Next Sunday will be a worship in song service, featuring the McMillan family of Goderich, and the Hensall Choir. Mrs. McAllister took for her topic, "The General Church Council" held in Guelph, when the first black man became Moderator of the United Church, Rev. Wilbur Howard will serve three years instead of the usual two, Thank you letters were read from Mrs. Polly McMurtrie, Mrs. Alma Hess and Mr. & Mrs, E. Chipchase. The offering was taken by the hostess, Mrs. Roobal & Mrs. E. Rowe and Mrs. Eric Luther conducted the elec- tion of officers, which are as UCW Unit IV elect officers, hear about church council Six nominated -for Hensall council follows; leader, Mrs. JameS McAllister; assistant leader, Mrs. R. Flynn; treasurers, Mrs. Tom Sherritt, Mrs, George Armstrong; social Noble Grand Mrs, Margaret Consitt presided at the meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge on Wednesday evening assisted by the Vice Grand Mrs. Bertha MacGregor, who reported for the visiting committee. A meeting on the "youth for United Nations" will be held in Clinton November 13 when Mrs. Consitt and Mrs. MacGregor will be delegates. Arrangements were made to entertain Parkhill Rebekah Lodge on November 20th and ,to Wallace's Turkey or Chicken POT PIES functions, Mrs. E. Rowe; pianists, Mrs. Laird Mickle, Mrs, Tom Sherritt. The benediction was pronounced by Mrs. McAllister. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. have the Christmas Party December 4th. Tickets are available for the 17th Annual Rally Degree to be held in Stratford November 16th. The CPT Committee are planning a euchre party in the near future. Mrs. Glenn Bell expressed sincere thanks to the members for cards Glenn received while in hospital. A social followed the meeting when guests and members played progressive euchre, Ladies' high prize winners were: Mrs. Pearl Electors in the village of Hensall will, go to the polls on December 2 to elect four mem- bers of council. John Baker has been returned as reeve for another term The reeve situation was in doubt until late Wednesday afternoon. A present councillot' Leonard Erb had been, nominated for reeve and council. Clerk Earle Shapter told the T- A only moments before the 5 p.m, Wednesday deadline that Erb had decided to pull out. Any candidates nominated for more than one position had 24 hours after nominations closed to make their decision, The four encumbent coun- cillors Murray Baker, Harold Knight, Paul Neilands and Erb will face two newcomers for the four available seats on council. Euchre was enjoyed. Florence Kay was high, Agnes Eyre, second and Elizabeth Alexander was low, Mrs. C. Eyre, Mrs. H. Caldwell, Mrs. J. Sinclair and Mrs. W. Bell were in charge of arrangements. Kippen East W.I. The resolutions meeting of Kippen East will be held at the home of Mrs. J. Sinclair with Mrs. Stewart Pepper co-hostess. The roll call will be, "What do you know about ,your Car Insurance?" Mrs, W. Bell will give the motto and the speaker will be from a local auto Insurance Company, Mrs, Grant McLean will be in charge of lunch, Personals Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Forsythe and Mrs. Harvey Moore have returned from a visit to Western Canada, Mr. & Mrs. Stan Jackson and Mr. & Mrs, J.
