'1'0.. • • ' %, Page 20 Times-Advocate, November 7, 1974 Two area couples married Granton girl gets music award By WILLA HARDING Saturday at the Annual Music Convocation at Aithouse College, University of Western Ontario Arden Bryan received the silver medal for Grade 8 violin awarded to the student with the highest marks in that grade. Arden also received the Nell King Award and $100.00 as the most promising string player at the convocation, At Granton. United Church Sunday Infant Baptism was held. Infants presented for baptism were Michael Daniel Gordon, son of Daniel and Judith Alce (Godparents, Jerry and Joan Marshall), John Brettell, son of John and Patricia Marlton, Scott Charles sonof Gordon andNancy Marshall, and Mark Allan, son of Bruce and Marlene Nixon. Rev. M, McInally's sermon was on "What is a Christian?" At St. Thomas Anglican church Sunday Holy Communion was observed, Rev. R. N. Savary's test was taken from the 6th chapter of Ephesians, "The Armour of GOd." Wedding news Marlene Hodgins was united in marriage to Joseph French Saturday at a beautiful can- dlelight service in St. Thomas Anglican Church. Rev, R, N, Savary officiated and guest soloist was Mrs. Linda Hodgins, The wedding dinner followed, held in the church basement catered to by the A,C.W. Many people from Granton and the surrounding area attended the wedding dance held later in the St. Mary's Legion. Couple morrigd Jeffrey Hryan was united in marriage to Margaret McQuffin Saturday in Zion United Church, Many people from Granton and area attended the wedding dinner held at Thorndale United Church and later the wedding dance at Thorndale Masonic Hall. 4-H news The fifth meeting of the Granton 4-H was held at the home of Mrs. Jean Cook. The meeting was opened with the 4-H pledge and the eleven members present answered the roll call; an idea for an original party game. Their club party planned for November 16 was discussed and different committees were set up to look after the preparations. Susie Gricken and Wendy Kloss demonstrated making cinicakes and afterwards all the girls helped decorate them, They were divided into groups to prepare different menus for various occasions. Nancy Riddell ,was secretary and press reporter for the meeting. Happy Gang meets Wednesday the Happy Gang met in Granton United Church. In the business part of the meeting new leaders were appointed, Mr. & Mrs. James Kerr succeeding Mrs. Cecil Bowman. Plans were made for a Christmas dinner to be catered to by Unit No. 3. They played games and ended with a delicious lunch. Every month a birthday cake is served in honour of members birthdays falling in that month. Recipients for the month of October were Mrs. Jean Dickenson and Mrs. Warren Gregory, Personals Mr, & Mrs. Jack McCullouch of Stroud were weekend visitors with Mrs. Gladys Sutherland. Mrs, Ivan Ross, Tom and Bob and Mrs. Veronica Mitchell travelled to Windsor on the weekend to attend the wedding of Mrs. Ross's nepheW. Jack Rawson is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, Mr. & Mrs. Clifford McRobert visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Stanley Hawkins of Mitchell, An early Christmas was celeb1ated Sunday at the home of Mr. & Mrs. E. Marlton where members of the immediate family gathered to exchange gifts and enjoy a Christmas dinner. Twenty-two were in attendance including Mrs. Jean Matthews and children of Peterborough. Granton Fire Department answered a call late Thursday evening. A vacant house on the former Wass farm burned down believed to be started, by Halloween pranksters. Some residents will probably be breathing a sigh of relief that Halloween is over for another year and things on main street will be returning to normal. ' Mr. & Mrs. Dan Campbell of Acton and Mr. & Mrs. Frank Nichol of Sarnia were two couples from out of town in the area ,on the weekend to attend the Bryan- McGuffin wedding. Fred Weiburg who had been holidaying with his son and family returned to the home of his daughter. Mr. Melnn Durr attended the annual Toronto Scottish dance at Fort York armories in Toronto last Saturday, in uniform, a kilt. Mrs. Wilfrid West is quite ill in University Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Turner, Chatham entertained at a bir- thday party for Mrs. Harold Prance and Mr. Prance on Sunday. On Friday evening October 18, a party of friends and neighbors from the second and fourth concessions gathered at Bosanquet Central School to entertain two newly wed couples - Janet and Larry Faulds and Debbie and Jim Lean at progressive euchre.
