Two letters received by Exeter
council from county council this
week failed to receive much
support.
The first was a reply to
• council's letter asking by what
authority county council had
increased the town's ap-
portionment of taxes.
Most urban communities in the
county recently had their share of
the tax load increased, although
Exeter's went up by less than one
percent.
However, at the time, Clerk
Eric Carscadden advised he
didn't think the increase could be
justified .under existing
legislaffon.
After the county reply was
read, Monday, he said he still
couldn't see any basis for doing
what they did.
The county correspondence
indicated the move was allowable
under the assessment act.
"I'm no lawyer, so I won't
argue against them," Car-
scadden stated and council took
no action to investiage the
situation farther.
Later in the meeting, council
was advised by the county that a
uniform building permit was
required across Huron and asked
for Exeter's reaction and in-
formation they would want to see
on the building permit.
"Why do we need a uniform
building permit?" questioned
Mayor Jack Delbridge.
"They want to build an empire
up there (county)," Reeve Derry
Boyle replied,
However, council agreed to
turn the matter over to their
building committee to answer the
county letter.

This week the Exeter police
department has had several
complaints from the contractors
who are erecting the senior
citizens home on Sander St. East.
The complaints are with
regards to children and youths
playing on the construction site
and damaging the new building.
Police advise if any youths are
found in the area, they will he
charged and appear in juvenile
court.
The by-law prohibiting parking
from Sanders St. to the laneway,
on the south side of the Burkley
Restaurant on the east side of
Main St. has been passed by the
Ministry of Transportation &
Communication.
Exeter police chief Ted Day
advises the motoring public that
any vehicles parked in this area,
will be given violation parking
tickets in the future. There will be
no more warning tickets issued.
Since the beginning of 1074, the
Exeter police department have
investigated 12 accidents at the
corner of Main and Wellington
streets. The majority of the
accidents have been over the
total damage of $200 and several
injuries have been reported,
Chief Day asks the motoring
public to pay special attention to
this intersection and take more
caution when approaching.
Due to the high rate of acs
cidents officers have been in-
structed to pay special attention
to vehicles parked in the no
parking zones and all vehicles
ate to be tagged,
