During a brief business
meeting of the Lucan Sunshine &
By SID DALEY
Another district A convention
has come and gone and in my
' estimation our Comrades of Zone
A 7 and St. Thomas branch in
particular did a remarkable job.
It was one of the better con-
ventions (if that's possible).
Branch 540 was very well
represented with 10 persons in
attendance 7 of which were
regular members. Well done
Comrades.
One of the highlights of the
meeting was the passing of the
following resolution and I quote
'Whereas the Minister of
National Defence has indicated
he is cutting the strength of the
Armed Forces
and whereas this-cutisogainst
the advice of his top Military

and whereas Canada at the
present time has not the Military
to live up to her present com-
mitments
and whereas we of the Legion
advocate the maintenance of
adequate defense on sea, land
and in the air, by virtue of our
partnership in the Com-
monwealth, The United Nations
and NATO.
Therefore be it resolved that
District A of the Royal Canadian
Legion go on record we strongly
object to the cut in Canada's
Armed Forces strength,
And further that we send a
telegrani to the Provincial
President voicing our displeasure
and further that the Provincial
,President contact. the . Dominion r21it
President immediately
requesting he so advise the
Minister concerned."
I am happy to advise this
resolution was passed
unanimously. One of the
highlights of the day was a
monster parade to the cenotaph
for the Act of Remembrance,
three bands were in attendance
and it was a sight to see. Sure felt
great to get the old blood cir-
culating while marithing to the
Elgin Militia brass band.
Members of Branch 540 are
reminded Remembrance Week is
fast approaching and if you
haven't already done so you are
urged to leave your name with
the duty steward indicating you
will be available to do your part
in making our 1974 Poppy
Campaign a success. With
enough bodies the entire Poppy
effort shouldn't take any more
than about one hour of your time.
Remember the Fallen gave their
life surely you can give an hour of
your life.
It's often been said that im-
migrants to this country ap-
preciate living in Canada more
than native Canadians do and
that they also work harder. Proof
of this was recently given by
Statistics Canada in a report that
showed the family iincome of the
average immigrant was 10.5 per
cent higher than the native
Canadian and that he had 21,8 per
cent more in value of personal
possessions.
and that's 30 for this week -
remember 'It is seldom the
difficulty that defeats us, but the
lack of confidence.'
