The major report of the day- long meeting was given by six commissioners to general coun- cil, held at Guelph in August, Mitchell, Bruce GUY, Dashwood, and. Fred Faist, Stratford, attended. Mr. Knisley gave a summary of the highlights of Council, and (General Council is the United Church's highest Court.) A former secondary school teacher, is the new Minister of North St, United Church, Goderich. He is Rev. Ralph King, and comes from Sarnia, Rev. Wesley B. Ball, formerly in Montreal Presbytery, has begun duties as the new Minister of the Gorrie-Wroxeter Pastoral Charge. Varna pastoral charge now has a Presbytery supply, in the per- son of Rev. Alex Taylor who came from St. Thomas, from their disaster," Rev. Rae Grant, of Listowel, in presenting the resolution said that he was concerned that as yet he had not heard of any other church or government aid. The resolution was sent to the Prime Minister, and local members of Parliament. Presbytery also pledged to support any govern- ment action. In other business, members learned that 15 people have pre- registered for the "School of Theology for Laity" to be held in Central United Church, Strat- ford. Rev, Murray Aspden of Milbank, co-ordinator of the event, said that there was still room for more participants. The school, a project of the Church's Iona College at the University of Windsor, is to be held Wednesday evenings from Sept. 25 to Nov. 13. It will consist of a basic lecture course by Rev, Fred Faist of Stratford on, "The Firsts in Jesus Life", and a choice of three electives: A, a discussion of the lecture with Rev. Ross Crosby, St. Marys, B, a transac- tional analysis lab with the book "I'm Okay - You're Okay" taken by Rev. Aspden, and C, values in feature films, with Mrs. Sue Bonsteel, Stratford librarian. Mrs. Ed Chappel presided and opened with the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. There were twelve members and two visitors present and the roll call was answered by a resolution one could use daily. Mrs. Alvin Barbour presented an interesting paper on the motto - Resolutions are the voice of the people, let thy voice be heard. Mrs, Robert McCaughey en- tertained everyone with several musical selections. 4-H Girls Meet Staffa No. 1 Canadian Chefs held their third meeting at the home of their leader Mrs. Spencer Jeffery on Monday evening September 23 at 7 p,m. There were 12 girls present and roll call was answered by naming a food or recipe characteristic of England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales, ;ithMary -Jane , Templeman -and Joanne Ross helped prepare Welsh Rabbit and Apple Dum- plings, Mrs. Smale had the girls take turns reading the British Tradition and Mrs. Jeffery read about Canadian Cheese followed by a question period. Ruth Harburn's design was chosen for the book covers. . . . Mrs. Chappel reported on the South Perth executive meeting, reminding members of upcoming events, including the nutrition workshop for South Perth at Kirk ton on October 8, the Fall rally at Kirkton on October 17 and the Area Convention at Central United Church in Stratford on November 27 and 28. Mrs. Charles Douglas was named a voting delegate for the area convention. Mrs. Douglas reported on the bus trip to the Royal Winter Fair on November 22 with the bus to leave Staffa at 10:30 a.m. Plans were finalized for the Halloween Party on October 30 with By MRS. Musical numbers with Marion Kerslake on the piano, Jake Schroeder with the accordion, Harold Kerslake with the cym- bols and Archie Webber and Elwyn Kerslake with mouth organs was enjoyed by all. About seventy relatives of Mr. & Mrs. Elwyn Kerslake gathered at the Elimville hall Friday evening. Euchre & Lost Heir were played. Mrs. Don Case read an address and they were presented with a gift. 4-H Girls meet The Third meeting of Elimville No. 3 4-H "Happy Hostess" Girls was held Monday evening Sep- tember 30th at the home of Mrs. Murray Coward. Mrs. Phil Hern gave a discussion on "The house guest" and also discussed how in- -troductions can be made easier. Demonstrations were given on how to make proper in- troductions. Mrs. Coward demonstrated how to pack a suitcase. Personals Dan Walters is a patient in St. Joseph's hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Sanford Hutton and Diane, visited on Sunday with Mi.
