August 29, 1974 Lucan church news Anglican and United Church members combined services for the fourth and last Sunday, this summer, on Sunday morning when Rev. John Holland spoke on "Beginnings", Mentioning particularly Genesis 1:1 and John I I. God expressed himself in many beautiful ways as he created the world and "found that it was good". Then God created two human beings and said "Be fruitful and multiply". Mr. Holland advised parents to bring up their children with wisdom, love and un- derstanding, but with firmness, This sermon was in preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism conferred on Andrea Jane, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Van Geel, later in the day, Next Sunday Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 8 with mor- ning prayers at 11 for the Anglican members and the United Church will reopen with services at 11:15 and the United Church Sunday School will reopen the following Sunday, September 8 at 10 a.m. The Decoration Day Service at St. James Cemetery, Clandeboye will be held on Sunday, September 1 at 3 p.m, Flowers in the church were from the funeral of the late Mrs. Margaret Ethel Hodgins. The sympathy of both congregations is extended to the family. Pentecostal Holiness Church The Women's Auxiliary met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs, Ernest Ferguson. They toured the Bell Homestead, horticultural show at the Civic Centre, Mohawk Chapel, Glenhyrst Park and Lorne Park. The minister at the Mohawk Chapel explained about the stained glass windows, about Joseph Brant's tomb which is located near the chapel. The city of Brantford was named after Joseph Brant. Mr, & Mrs, Milton Sweitzer and Debbie Price spent the weekend at Guelph, Niagara Falls and Crystal Beach, Garry Latta returned home on the weekend after holidaying with his aunt and uncle Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Devine. Mrs. Rudy Zondag is a patient at St. Joseph's hospital London. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Weseloh of Tecumseh, Michigan and Mrs. Margaret Lewis of Rochester, Michigan are spending some holidays with Mr, Weseloh's two sisters, Mrs. Art Meininger and Mr. & Mrs. Tom Gittus of Hen- sail. Mrs. Ken Baker, Nancy and Donna attended a double miscellaneous shower, Friday night at the Varna hall for Sandra Baker and Beverley McLelland, bride-elects of September. Mr. & Mrs. Milton Sweitzer visited Thursday night at St. Joseph's hospital with Seth Amans of Zurieh who had un- dergone surgery. Fred Weiburg returned to the home of his daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Devine after holidaying a few weeks with his other daughter and family Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Latta at their summer cottage at Point Clark, Sandra Baker has finished her school course training for a laboratory technologist and is spending a few weeks at home to complete the course at Stratford General hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Ray Cartwright of London visited their cousins, Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Morenz, Saturday afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Harry Chapman of London spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Les Adams and at- tended the Bean Festival at Zurich. Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Morenz were dinner guests Saturday night in London with Bill and Lynda Morenz when they celebrated Hugh's birthday. On Sunday Mrs. Morenz and Lynda motored north of Toronto to the Art Gallery at Kleinburg where the McMichael Canadian Collection of the Group of Seven, paintings is displayed.
