Jr Alberta girls visit district Thames Road bride showered by friends NEW POST OFFICE OPENS - Monday marked the opening day of Exeter's new post office, causing a bit of confusion as people tried to locate their new boxes. Northern tourists home Two girls both from Alberta took part in. the National Far- mers Union Youth Exchange, Coming into this area were 16 year old Debbie Olineek. from Vegreville, Alberta, her hosts being Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Klopp, RR 3, Zurich and 17 year old Ella Joan Macuik, St. Michael's Alberta. Her host home was with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gielen, RR 2, Crediton. Debbie lives on a third generation farm, 65 miles north of Edmonton. Since she resides on a 040 acre farm, she is sur- prised at the small farms in this area, and she can't understand how the farmers are able to make a living off their small operations. But the farmers are always pondering that same question. The crops that interest her the most are the corn and beans, since they aren't grown around her birthplace. Their climate is not as warm as ours and she admired people with a tan. There are fairly new homes in their vicinity and they don't have stone foundations similar to ours. Even our big barns amazed her. She also said she didn't feel isolated in this area with towns, villages and hamlets being so close. Ella Joan said they had a small farm around 250 acres and also had had spring weather. She called home while here and they had just started seeding. On their farm they grow mainly grain and flax and have a few cows. Her parents work out besides far- ming. There were approximately 64 young people who came into the province of Ontario. The other provinces had their equal share too. They stayed 10 days at their host homes and left for the West home on Monday July 22.
