Middlesex County Board of
Education this week ratified
salary agreements for the 1974.75
school year with its elementary
and secondary school teOchers.
For secondary, school teachers,
the increase on salaries and
fringe benefits amounts to 13.45
percent.
Elementary teachers will
consider ratification of their
agreement in September,
The board also ratified a
collective agreement covering
secretarial staff in schools and
the Board office,
paraprofessional staff and aduio
visual technicians who were
recently organized by the
Canadian Union pf Public
Employees.
In property matters, the board
decided, because of the high cost
of buying land adjacent to the
present Parkhill Memorial
School, to build a new school
facing McLeod Street and to
demolish the old school to provide
adequate playground space.
The new school is, necessary
because the Ministry of
Education will not permit
renovations and additions to the
present building.
After considerable discussion,
the Board decided, to ask Ailsa
Craig village council if it is in-
terested in leasing Ailsa Craig
School for a year and using it for
community purposes. The school
is no longer needed and the Board
plans to have it appraised with a
view to selling it.
It will, of course, be offered
first to the village council if
approval to sell, is obtained from
the Ministry of Education.
In other business, the Board
ratified the appointment of Miss
Shawne Murphy of London as its
Attendance Counsellor.
