The event was to honour Mrs, Spencer Jeffery on her 25th. wedding anniversary. Mrs. Jeffery has been a leader , of Staffs No. 1 for many years. She will be attending a mini-workshop on nutrition and fashions and later on is invited as a guest of the Western Fair Association to the top of the fair clubhouse for a banquet and grandstand show. Jim Mills was holidaying with his aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Nelson Mills of St. Marys last week. Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Summers of the village were guests of Mr, & Mrs. Carmen Hodgins at their cottage near Hayfield for a few days last week. Mrs. Henrietta Carson at- tended the Cook-Crowe wedding Saturday in Port Stanley's Christ Church, Mr. & Mrs. Wesley McGuffin attended the wedding reception dance held later at Hepburn's Gym. Shannon Peckham was staying with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Ted Peckham for a few days last week. Her mother, Brenda, had an unfortunate accident at Campbell's Soup Company, St. Marys, where she lost three fingers in a dicing machine. Mrs. Peckham is expected to be in the hospital for several weeks and Shannon will be staying with her grandparents through the week until her mother is out of the hospital. • Hearing SO -Queen- St., S. HEARING AIDS Couple Married Helen Marlton was united in marriage to Ron Ferguson Saturday in Granton United Church with the wedding meal following in the church basement. Church News Gran ton United Church welcomed to their service Rev. Cyril Paul of the Presbyterian Church in Trinidad and Grenada and also his wife Barbara. Rev. M. McInally , led the worship and Rev. Cyril Paul delivered an inspiring sermon, "Pocket Full of Seeds". Music was provided by Rev. Emerson Mylalsing. Fun Day Granton Fun Day Parade will be starting at a later time this year. Participants are asked to be at the cenotaph where the parade will begin at 11:00 a.rn, Judges for the parade are Bill Brady of C.F.P.L.'s open line, Jack Riddell, M,P.P, and Murray Brown, president of C.F.P.L. Confirmation was received that the Royal Canadian Regiment Legion band will participate in the parade and will present a concert later in the park. T-A photo Cromarty women entertain at home Personals Mr. & Mrs. Johnny Miller and family are holidaying this week at Wasaga Beach, Mrs. John Drake and Mrs. Larry Elliott visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. David Sim and baby daughter of Southwold, The village ladies held a farewell party for Mrs. Irene Parker on Thursday afternoon. ,Mrs. Parker has sold her home in the village to Mr. & Mrs. McLean who get possession later this month. Lorraine and Joanne Papple, London have been holidaying this past couple of weeks with their grandparents, Mr. & Mrs, John Drake and Murray. Julie Ann Elliott has returned home from a holiday in the western provinces. Bonnie Miller, Toronto visited on the weekend with her family, Mr. & Mrs. Clifton Miller and Paul. Visiting on Sunday with Ethel, Laura and Roy Balkwill were Mr. & Mrs. Frank Forrest and Mrs, Lon Clarke, Hensall, and Mrs, Gordon Wren, Kippen. On Sunday afternoon over 50 Hibbert community young people enjoyed a beach party at St. Joseph's. Chaperons for the afternoon were Mr. & Mrs. Laverne Wallace and Mr, & Mrs. Leslie Riley. Celebrates 90th Birthday Hubert Hodgins was the guest of honour at an open house celebrating his 90th birthday. His family hosted a lovely tea in the Anglican Church from 2-5. Between 150 and 200 friends and relatives called on him to help him remember this memorable occasion. At 7:30 about 40 members of the immediate family were treated to a smorgasbord dinner by Mr. Hodgins in the church basement. Funeral Held Sympathy goes out to Mrs. Albert Hoyles and family of Granton on the death of her husband, Albert Ashley Hoyles. Cub Leader Training Mrs. Doreen McRobert and Mrs. Juanita Westman attended the Pack Scouters Part II Woodbadge course at Blue Springs near Acton. ROBERT LAING Last Tuesday afternoon the Marian Ritchie Evening Auxiliary paid their annual visit to Kilbarchan Nursing Home in Seaforth and entertained the residents at a meeting on the lawn, Mrs. Lorne Elliott presided for the programme which had as its theme Friendship. The meeting opened with a hymn and Mrs. Robert Laing read the scripture on friendship from John, Chapter 15, followed by the meditation by Mrs. Larry Gardiner and prayer by Mrs. Beverly Taylor, Ba II News The junior girls bail team played two games this week at Granton ball park, The local girls were beaten in both games against Hurondale and Elimville in high scoring games. Tuesday night in Granton the Bryanston men had a decisive win over Parkhill the final score being 11-2. The senior girls beat Skaffa at Cromarty ball park Tuesday night with a score of 14-2. Thursday night at Granton ball park, Granton emerged the winners in a game against Carlingford 14-4. Persona Is Mrs. William Elders and family of Chatham spent last weekend with her mother, Mrs. F. J. Crouch. Susan Noon visited with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Pickering of Lakeside last week. Mrs, Joe It oukens- of the Granton area required minor surgery for the removal of a piece of wire from her foot last week. The wire entered her foot as the result of an accident while cutting the grass. Mr. & Mrs. D. Diane and Alan Hodgert spent last week with Sheilagh and John Murphy in Toronto. They visited the Hodgerts the week before. Mr. & Mrs, William Hooper, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Rohde spentSunday at Cayuga. Quite a number from this community attended the Kirkton Garden Party and several at- tended the dance at the Kirkton- Woodham Community Hall Wednesday evening. Visitors on Saturday with Mr. & Mrs, William Rohde were Mrs. Marguerite Gibson,. London, Mr,; & Mrs. Al Parker; Midland, Mr. & Mrs. Dave Millar, Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Rick Mellenger spent the weekend with Rev. Barry and Mrs. Robinson at the cottage at Lake Rosseau. Surprise Party A surprise birthday party picnic was held on Sunday at the home of Mr. & Mrs. William Roh- de for Mrs. William Thomson of Exeter. Those attending were Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Thomson and family of Woodham, Danny Roh- de, Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Jeffery, Alan and Connie and Mrs. Thomson. Mrs. Gordon Laing, who also accompanied the hymns, played two accordion solos. Mrs. Thos. L. Scott accompanied herself On the autoharp as she sang two songs. Shirley Miller entertained with two step-dance numbers and Nancy and Barbara Templeman also sang two songs. Mrs. Eldon Allen gave readings from an old Ontario Reader. The meeting closed with a hymn and the Lord's Prayer. Both Cromarty residents at Kilbarchan, Mrs. Sadie Scott, and Mrs. Mary Allen, were able to be outside for the meeting. Baseball Players for the Chiselhurst men's softball team were rather scarce on Saturday night and as a result they began with a few substitute players and lost the game to Roys by a 24-14 score. On Sunday night Cromarty and Staffa met in a much closer game with Cromarty emerging vic- torious .by 15 runs to;.15. , South Ribbertbantam boys and their coaches, Jack Christie and David Dow, travelled to Kirkton on Sunday evening and were defeated 11-2 by Blanshard bantams.
