Ten young athletes presently
working out at Huron Park hope
they can follow in the footsteps of
Al Sims.
Sims, as readers may recall,
attended the special sessions of
the Huron Hockey School last
summer and then went on to win
a spot on the Boston Bruin
defence with a chap named
Bobby Orr.
That gained some valuable
recognition for the Huron Hockey
School and this year 10 young
professional players are at-
tending special sessions this

Exeter squirts continued their
winning ways by beating the
visiting Goderich team by 4 goals
to nil, Saturday,
Andrew Winters led the scoring
with another three-goal per-
formance. Joey Martens, who
played a strong game, notched
the other Exeter goal.
Len* Dietrich, David Mid-
dleton, Julian 13a11, Danny
Morley, Qibby Dow, Jeff Pfaff
and John Wooden also turned in
strong performances for the
Exeter team,
Seaforth wins 4.1
A poor first half left Exeter
Atoms four goals in arrears. Ail
four goals were conceded as a
result of defensive errors. Some
strong words from the coach at
half time, together with some
positional changes, pulled the
team together in the second half,
However, the odds were too
great and it was left to Chris Van
Gerwen to notch Exeter's single
goal.
Exeter's forward lire of
Bradley Kernick, John Osgood,
Jonathan Melhuish, Ted Oke and
Chris Van Gerwen all played a
strong consistent game.
Centennials lose 9-1
Exeter was unlucky to draw
Marconi in the first round of the
Labatt's achievement award,
The intercity league teams are
obviously playing in a different
class of competition than lowly
3rd division London league,
Exeter.
However in spite of being
outclassed, Exeter put up their
most spirited display of the year..
Any 3rd division team that can
score 2 goals, one disallowed for
somewhat dubious reasons,
against Marconi can't be all bad.
The first half saw Exeter with
one man short hold the intercity
team to a 5-1 score with a fine
goal from Bernie Beasley.
The second half was as hard
fought as the first with Exeter up
to strength and at times making
good attacking plays on the
Marconi game.
Tim Stover in the Exeter goal
put on a fantastic display of
aerial acrobatics in making
many outstanding saves from the
Marconi shooters.
John Muller and Al Hern
combined well in attack and Bill
Smits at full back played out-
standingly.

Easiest way to clean your car's
vinyl upholstery is with baking
soda-and-water solution, and
a soft brush or sponge.
Do your driving during off-
hours when you can. You'll
save on gas gulping, stop and
start driving,
An extra gasoline tank install-
ed in your car can turn it into a
"mobile firebomb" according
to Leonard M. Ring, president
of the Association of Trial
Lawyers of America. His
professional opinion; DON'T.
Many American made cars
have metric components.
Foreign-made cars, of course,
have had them all along.
The first known woman driver
in the US was Genevra
Delphine Mudge, who drove
an electric -powered car in
New York in 1898, She, at
least, must have been spared
those "woman-driver" jokes.

In addition to the 10
professional, the school is this
week hosting 32 junior and
midget players,
Mason advised that about 350
boys are expected to follow in the
upcoming five weeks.
"We hope to expand the school
to eight weeks next year," he
reported, noting its continued
popularity.
As usual, kids from across
North America have registered,
many of them repeating from
previous years and bringing
friends with them.
A number of area hockey
players have also registered for
the school, which is now
recognized as one of the leading
hockey instruction setups in
North America.
During the coming winter
season, TV fans may see some of
the school on Hockey Night in
Canada. A television crew visited
the school yesterday and today to
record a feature.
PROS AT HOCKEY SCHOOL — Ten young professional hockey
players are tuning their skills at the Huron Hockey School this week in
hope they con land a job in the NHL or WHL this season. One of the
graduates of a similar session last year was Al Sims of the Boston
Bruins. From the left are instructor Bill Mahoney, have Williams, Toron-
week to polish their skills.
School directors Bill Mahoney
and Ron Mason told the T-A this
week that they work basically on
fundamental skills with the
young players and place special
emphasis on skating.
The pros, who are mainly
graduating junior or college
players, hit the ice three times a
day, After their first two sessions
they are shown video tapes
pointing up their weaknesses.
The final session, staged at 7:30
p.m., sees the 10 line up against
each other in a strenuous
scrimmage.
While most of the names won't
be familiar to area hockey fans,
they hope that will change when
the present season gets underway
in the NHL and WHL,
Among the young hopefuls is
Dave Williams, a second round
draft choice of the Toronto Maple
Leafs from Swift Current.
Another of the players is Jun
Bar, who has been sent to the
school by the New England
Whalers. He's, from

The Exeter Greys continued
their winning ways this week,
demolishing Kirkton by a '47-9
count and polishing off Fullarton
8-2.
In the win over Kirkton, the
Greys scored 18.runs in the first
three innings and went hog-wild
in the fourth to send 14 runners
across the plate to take a 32-0 lead
before Kirkton managed to get on
the score sheet.
Lea DeJong and Marie Tiernan
shared the pitching duties for the
winners.
Against Fullerton, the locals
scored five times in the fourth
frame and Lea DeJong pounded
out a long home run in the sixth to
cap the scoring,
