Dear Sir;
I am writing this letter in
response to some calls we have
received at our home pertaining
to my father's job — that is the
local dog control officer.
I am not sure as to the
existence of manners these days
due to the fact that some people
find it perfectly alright to phone
our home, and upon learning that
my father is not there, proceed to
scream and yell at whoever has
answered.
After these ear splitting bouts
they do not even I have the cour-
tesy to leave a name or address.
How in the world my father can
respond to a call without this
information is beyond me,
Perhaps the people of our area
do not realize that dog catching is
only a part time job and that my
father has a regular job which at
this time of year consists of about
12 hours a day, seven days a
week.
And maybe the residents of
Huron Park are also ignorant of
the fact that my father's dog
patrol duties include all of the
Township of Stephen, the town of
Exeter and Parkhill.
However my father tries to do
as many patrols as possible. We
at home take messages which he
receives when he gets home. We
try to help if we can when a call
comes in but this isn't always
possible.
My father does the best job he
can but if the people of this area
would prefer to let the situation
return to the state it was in before
he took this job then perhaps they
could politely advise the township

To the Editor:
I am writing concerning recent
court cases as reported in the
Times-Advocate July 11, 1974.
It seems very strange that the
law varies so often depending on
the mood of the Judge presiding.
For example; in a recent case
reported a boy of 17 years of age
was charged with possession of
cannabis.
The paper stated there was
enough of the substance "to fill a
large tomato juice can." Yet the
accused received a discharge
with only a stipulation that he
report to a probation officer
every month.
Leniency such as this is un-
necessary especially in a society
as we have today which is trying
to curtail the use of drugs.
Allowing a person exemption
from any punishment is more or
less accepting the use of
marijuana.
A person charged with drinking
in other than his residence
receives more of a fine than a
person walking up a street with a
haversack stuffed full of can-
nabis. I am not trying to say
drinking should be ignored but a
more realistic approach towards
charges and punishments could
be taken.
In the same court case a man
was charged and convicted on a
charge of possession; this time
the fine was $75. It must depend
on how much of the stuff you have
on your person before you receive

Dear Bill:
This is an open letter to the
mothers of the Town of Exeter.
Please publish it in the paper.
As you know, the Town of
Exeter Council has been ap-
proached in regards to operating
a Day Care Centre for the town of
Exeter. My reasons for wanting
this service were published in the
Times-Advocate at that time, but
for those who may have missed
them, here they are again.
1. Many working mothers have
difficulty arranging adequate
day care for their children.
2. Many young children do not
have the opportunity to socialize
with children of their own age.
3. Many mothers raising
children alone, now on welfare
programs may be able to go to
work if subsidized day care were
available.
4. Local industries would be
assured of a better supply of
female labor if excellent care
were available for their children
at reasonable cost.
5. Unemployment may drop,
since women often cease work
because of inadequate care for

any punishment. If one receives a
discharge all should receive a
discharge.
Being a young person myself, I
am deeply concerned about the
judicialsystem. How can it vary
"so" often?
I simply wish to raise a few
questions on the court system.
Where is the line of fairness
drawn?
If a person is a student should
he be allowed privileges such as
not having to face a fine, etc? Can
it be that the thicker your wallet
is the easier life slips by for you?
If this is the case I feel sorry for
the innocent people who have to
pay for court proceedings as their
best interests are not being
protected nor the laws upheld.

Dear Sir:
I would like to comment in
regards to your recent article in
your paper about the 2 girls from
Texas.
I felt I had to write and clear up
a few points about Pat, whose
real name is Pam,
Pam never said many of the
things that were written in the
London Free Press. She was
interviewed by a girl who had
just graduated from Journalism
School and is working on a trial
basis for the London Free Press.
Obviously the young reporter
misquoted Pam quite often and
exaggerated many things.
Pam was very upset about the
article and hoped people could
see that the interview had been
badly exaggerated
In reference to the airplanes
Pam said only a few farmers
used them to spray crops.
Pam has lived in our home for
51/2 weeks and she is like one of
our family.
Anyone who met her liked her
immediately. She has a great
personality and she certainly did
not give a bad impression of the
children while they work.
6. Women are an essential part
of the work force. Indeed, it
takes two salaries to run many
households.
Since that first request, the
Government of Ontario has
announced increased funding for
the establishment and operation
of approved Day Care Centres,
and instead of 80 percent subsidy,
will pay up to 100 percent of
renovations to existing buildings.
The government has obviously
recognized that these programs
are a necessary part of society,
today, or they would not have
brought forth this new program,
Our Town Council has in-
dicated a willingness to par-
ticipate in this venture, but there
is one thing lacking - YOUR
SUPPORT!
Since distribution of
questionnaires at the Public
School, and the publicity in the
Times-Advocate several weeks
ago, I have had only one positive
reply, Perhaps the timing is bad,
but I would like to try again.
Many people have said "I think
it is a good idea," but when your
name is important, you don't act
positively. I notice other centes in
Huron County, particularly
Seaforth and Wingham are
taking part in this project, Why
not Exeter?
I for one and I'm sure I'm not
alone, would really like to see this
service available for the people of
Exeter, but unfortunately, that is
not enough.
Before anything can happen,
there must be sufficient interest
shown.

questionnaire. Please if you are
interested now, or may be at
some future time, complete the
form, and return it to me, as soon
as possible. Tell your neigh-
bours. Without your support it
won't happen,
