Clinton 11-5 in a short contest and
Clinton squared matters with a 7-

Exeter scored seven runs in the
seventh inning to post the victory
over Crediton.

the big blow during the Exeter
rally, Paul Pooley checked in
with two doubles, Brad Taylor
had a double and single and
singles were delivered by Perry
Pooley, Mike Burke, Steve
Baynham and Ted Triebner.
The other two Exeter markers

Crediton's first run came in the

Ken Govers.
The final four Crediton runs
came in the seventh as Paul
Gaiser and Richard Webb singled
and Gerard Brennan tripled.
Perry Pooley was the Exeter
pitcher while Paul Gaiser and
Larry Ryan shared duties for the
losers.
Sunday Crediton was leading
Clinton 11-5 in the second inning
when the Clinton catcher became
ill due to the extreme heat and
was unable to continue. The
game was then forfeited.
The Crediton youngsters
scored all their runs in the
second. Leading the attack with
three hits was Ken Govers.
Getting two safeties apiece were
Fraser Boyle, Dennis Preszcator
and Gerard Brennan.
After giving up five runs in the
first inning Larry Ryan on the

For the first time a Huron
County native will be playing on
the Ontario Willingdon golf team
against representatives of all
other provinces in Canada.
Ken Doig of Seaforth placed
third in the Ontario Amateur last
week but in a special round at the
Hamilton Golf and Country club
at Ancaster, Monday shot a 74
and a total of 290 in the 72 hole
overall competition.
Doig is number two man on the
team next to Ontario Amateur
winner Gary Cowan. Bruce
Brewer of Toronto Whitevale is
the third member of the team and
the fourth spot went to Kelly
Roberts of London Sunningdale.
Roberts made the final spot by
beating veteran campaigner
Gerry Kesselring of Kitchener in
a three hole playoff.
Cowan clinched the Willingdon
team spot by winning the Ontario
title. Mike Melia of the Univer-
sity of Indiana who finished
second to Cowan with a 215 blew
his chances Monday by taking
nine strokes on the twelfth hole.
In addition Kelly Roberts was
named Monday to the all-
American golf team. He plays out
of the University of Indiana.
For Ken Doig, Monday's
placing on the Willingdon Cup
team was the culmination of a
long uphill battle. He has tried for
the spot for about 20 years and on
one occasion came within one
stroke of realizing his dream.
It was the biggest thrill of his
life and he was behaving Monday
night like a kid with a new toy. He
actually brought home the score

We did it!
What can I say? The Exeter
swim team proved to be number
one before a large enthusiastic
crowd Saturday morning at the
pool. The swimmers certainly
worked hard and the results were
most rewarding!
Congratulations!
I would like to thank Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond, Mr. and Mrs.
Ross, and Mr. Wraight for selling
hot dogs and refreshments during
the meet. The money we made
will help pay our transportation
for out of town meets, The team
will be travelling to Wingham,
Saturday July 20, for another
meet with teams from the nor-
thern portion of our zone. I hope
we will be as successful!
Those children involved in
swimming lessons have also been
busy this week. Thursday, July
18, the tadoples, frogs, beginners,
dolphins, sharks and baraccudas
will have their test. Friday July
19, the juniors, intermediates and
seniors will be examined by
people from London. The juniors
will be first at 9:00 a.m., the
intermediates and seniors will
follow,
I hope we have a large number
of adults coming for a swim on

evenings from 8:30-9:30. On these
two evenings the children will
Squirts win
in soccer
The Exeter squirt soccer team
came up with an excellent per-
formance in Huron minor league
play Saturday.
They travelled to Seaforth and
sent the previously undefeated
Knights a defeat by a 3-2 score.
The Exeter club fought back
from an early two goal deficit to
post the victory. Andrew Winters
led the winners scoring attack
with a two goal effort while Joey
Martens booted the odd counter.

windshields, but headlights
and front grill should be check-
ed and cleaned regularly. Bug
buildup on grill interferes with
cooling air flow, hurts perfor-
mance.
Clutch slippage, in a manual-
transmission car, may develop
if owner has a habit of resting
his left foot on clutch while
driving, or if pedal adjustment
has been neglected.
Excessive wear in center of tire
tread usually indicates tire was
overinflated.
Remove luggage rack when
you're not using it. Adds to
car's wind resistance, adds
strain to engine, odds to your
gas bill.
The alternator should be
checked every 5,000 miles,
more often if car spends a lot
of time on dusty dirt roads. It
should be kept dry and clean,
and the wiring and connec-
tions inspected.
