Lion's exchange nearing end Sun, swimming and houses with stairs 1111111111111111111111111111111
NS so green and All the houses
have stairs. These were the two
things that most impressed the
two girls from Texas here on the
Lien's club exchange,
Dolores Higgins, 17 of
Whiteface Texas, and Georgia
Thomas, 18 of Taboka have been
in Exeter staying with Lion's club
families now for 5 weeks. -
Although they have seen a lot
and done a lot more since they
first talked to members of the .T-
A staff, they still remarked on the
same two things as those which
impressed them so much about
Canada.
"Everything is all green,
compared to home," Georgia
said, "It's just beautiful. We

at home."
And they are still fascinated by
our two-storey houses. Both girls
remarked several times that the
houses here were so big. They
hadn't been to one home which
didn't have stairs and that was
unusual to them, most of the
homes in their area of Texas are
one floor and "all sprawled out."
Both girls said that they were
enjoying our hot Weather, but
that it was much hotter in Texas,
They were not quite so pleased
about the rain we have been
having but, Dolores said, "The
people at home would like us to
pack up some rain and take it LOOK FOR THE BIG ORANGE BUILDING

trees with us, it is so dry there,"
DOlores and Georgia have
stayed with several different
families during their stay. They
said that they enjoyed all them
families that they had been with;
each one was a little different and
took them to different things.
"We have been lucky to be with
good, active families who went
out of their way to show us a lot Of
stuff," Dolores said.
They were most impressed
with the Stratford Shakespearean
Festival. The girls attended a
performance of "Love's Labours
Lost" with some of the Lion's
couples and came back filled with
excitement over the play itself
and the theatre grounds. "There
are a lot of people at home who
would really like to see
something like that," Georgia
said, "especially my English
teacher."
Georgia thought that canoeing
was the only truly Canadian thing
She had done since she came.
That was something she had
never done before and she liked it
but was a bit scared when she fell
out, She went canoeing while
visiting with the Ron Cotrell's at
their cottage near Lindsay,
They have been horseback-
riding and have done a lot of
swimming, "More than I have
ever done in my life,v Georgia
said.
However they feel that they
haven't really seen much of
Canada. "We've mostly just been
in the area, living the everyday
life of the people who live here"
Georgia said, "but it wasn't
supposed to be a tour."
When asked if they had learned
much from the people in the area
or about themselves, from their
stay here, the girls agreed that
things weren't much different
here than at home, The kids their
age were interested in the same
things as those in Texas.
Georgia noticed that the young
people here wore blue jeans a lot
more than they did at home so
she had her mother send her
Levi's up.
When they came, they listed
dating as one of their hobbies and
they had a chance to do that while
they were here ton.
They had met quite a few young
people their own age through
Some of the kids they had been
staying with and had time to take
the occasional trip to Grand
Bend.
Dolores said that everything is
so clean here that "people must
really stick together" in trying to
keep, the town looking good. She
also remarked that the farms in
the area were kept SO neat,
Dolores. and Georgia . didn't
agree with another girl who is on
the same exchange from Texas,
and was the subject of recent
articles in the London Free
Press.
The girls said that she had
exaggerated, Georgia said that
contrary to what Pat said, they
didnt need airplanes to get
around their farms, Georgia's
father has a 1200 acre cotton farm
and uses a truck to get around it.
"She was trying to make
Texans sound really big and the
people here sound really small,"
,and Dolores and Georgia didn't
think that that was fair at all.
They said they.felt she had made
a bad impression for the Texans
on the exchange and hoped that
people wouldn't think they were
all ,like that.
The girls have been busily
taking pictures of everything
they have seen and done and of
the families that they have been
staying with. When they get back
to Texas they will have the best
ones made into slides and will
give slide shows for several of the
local clubs to tell them a little bit
about what Canada is like.
After her trip to Australia, last
summer, Georgia, gave seven
presentations of her slides to,
clubs near Tahoka Texas. The
girls said that they have had a
great time while they were in
Canada and hope to be able to
return some time. "There is so
much of Canada that we haven't
seen."
They will be meeting with the
other Texas exchange students in
Blyth before they head back
home on Saturday July 13. SAVEWAY MONEY SAVERS
