Water request
turned down
Exeter council this week
concurred with the action of the
local PUC in turning down a
request for water service from
Don Taylor Motors.
A copy of a letter from the PUC
to the service station located in
Stephen Township at Exeter's
southern limits was read at
Monday's meeting of council,
It pointed out that providing
water to township residents was
found to be creating unfair
competition for Exeter sub-
dividers who had to provide
water services for their sub-
divisions.
Several residents along Huron
St, in Usborne Township, have
been turned down in their
requests for water, although at
one time home owners in this
area were able to hook into the
main leading from the wells in
the township which provide
Exeter with water,
However, this practice too
brought complaints from local
subdividers and was dropped.
The PUC explained to Don
Taylor Motors that a well was
located on adjacent property that
could provide water supply for
other than drinking purposes.
The well once provided Exeter
with some of its water supply, but
was abandoned after it became
contaminated.
Mayor Jack Delbridge ex-
plained that town water service
was provided to the service
station at one time, but was
discontinued by a previous owner.
