The final outcome in each game was very close. Thursday night in Listowel, the Exeter youngsters dropped a 15- 14 decision as the Listowel club scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Sunday night at Exeter Community park it was a dif- ferent story with the Exeter club scoring a pair of runs in the last of the seventh inning to post a 5-4 decision over Kincardine. John Van Gerwen and Perry Pooley crossed the plate in the seventh frame as the Kincardine club committed three errors. The first two Exeter runs came in the second inning when the first four batters to the plate rapped out singles. They were Brian Taylor, Paul Brooks, Jim Gregus and Ken Pinder. In the Exeter fifth, John Van Gerwen reached first after two were out and scored on a single from the bat of Brian Taylor. Ken Pinder was the winning pitcher for Exeter giving up only High registration at swimming pool By DONNA DOIDGE A couple of hectic Saturdays resulted in one of the largest registrations at the Exeter and district swimming pool, The youngest swimmers proved to be most eager to enroll in our program as 'Tadpoles' and `Frogs' are filled to a bubbling capacity. Registration for the first session is closed but we still have room for some students in the second and third sessions. There is no pre-registration required for 'adult fitness class'; (from 1-2 o'clock on Monday, Wednesday, Friday), and adult lessons, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Just bring a bucket of enthusiasm and a meager fifty cents, for each lesson. The 'Moms & Tots' program is a first for our pool. We hope it will be a success, but of course we need your support and en- thusiasm. The mothers must accompany their child, aged 2-4, in the water. These lessons commence Monday July 1 and cost fifty cents per lesson. The swim team will also get under way the first week of July. We are most enthusiastic con- cerning the team, as we have 'eyes' for first place this year. We need all the swimmers we can possibly get out for practice, July 4 as our first meet will be July 13 in Exeter. Some of the pool staff travelled to Listowel Wednesday to par- ticipate in a meeting concerning the summer competitive swimming program. It has been decided that Exeter will host two meets this year; one July 13, and the other August 10. It is hoped that our swimmers can rely on a large enthusiastic home crowd to pull us to a first place. six well scattered hits. In the 15.14 loss to Listowel Ken Pinder scored three times for Exeter. .Completing the base. cycle on two occasions each were Bill Wilson, Bob Hoffman, Perry Pooley, John Gould and Brian Taylor, Paul Brooks was the hurler for Exeter. Gymnastic clinic set The Ontario Gymnastic Federation is planning a recreational gymnastics clinic in Exeter next week, It will be held at South Huron District High School, Wednesday and Thur- sday, July 3 and 4. The Wednesday session will be only in the afternoon and will be of a three hour duration while Thursday's seminar will be in two divisions. Three adult instructors will be coming from Toronto along with four young female gymnasts. Heading the team are Mary Cappello, Susan Chris tilaw and Nancy Cobban. During the Wednesday session, the philosophy and basics of the program will be outlined along with the safety of equipment along with actual participation in warmups, tumbling and dancing. Thursday morning's activities will include games, stunts, rhyth- mics and demonstrations on unevens, vaults, beam and trampoline stations, At the afternoon program the clinic will be evaluated and local instructors may have a session with their own gymnasts. Physical education teachers in area elementary schools are urged to attend. There are no registration fees or any other charges for the clinic. Pair of draws fOr minor soccer The best the Exeter minor soccer teams could do in Huron league play Saturday was get two ties in four starts. The Exeter atoms gained a 2 - 2 tie with Goderich and the Exeter squirts and Goderich played to a draw by the same score. In mosquito play, the Clinton Cougars downed Exeter 5 - r and the Exeter pee wees dropped a close 2 - 1 decision to Clinton. Saturday, all league games have been cancelled in favour of the annual competition for the Centennial Cup. Atom teams from Goderich, Seaforth, Clinton and Exeter will be competing. The first games will be played at 10 a.m. Bradley Kernick scored both Exeter goals in the atoms draw with Goderich. Both scores by Kernick came in the first half but Goderich bounced back to tie the score in the second half. Peter Dearing again turned in an outstanding game in the Exeter goal. Both Exeter goals in the squirts draw were booted by Andrew Winters. He is now the Recently 55 Grade 8 pupils from Exeter Public School participated in a three day field trip to the Niagara Falls and Toronto areas. The main ob- jective of the trip was to relate the history, geography, and science courses of the in- termediate grades to the actual physical features and to the commercial and social development that has followed. Arrangements for the trip were begun in December in order to assure that accommodation and reservations could be obtained. Comments by the students follow: Fort George - I liked it best because it went right along with our history - an excellent guide who provided interesting in- formation. Hydro plant - It was interesting but too many facts were presented - I would like to have gone down to the turbines. Brock's monument - There's 237 steps - Puff Puff. leading point getter for the local team. Standouts for the Exeter pee wees were Paul Van Gerwen on defence and Sandy Markus in goal. The lone Exeter mosquito goal was fired by David Jackson. Niagara Falls - The view and the gorge are exciting - the lights at night and the Skylon view are fantastic - they fall by themselves - didn't see enough. Tussaud's wax museum - The detail was almost unbelievable - very realistic spine chilling - like to visit it again. Marine Aquarium - The training must have taken a long time - I got wet - I wish I had a whale - educational yet en- tertaining and relaxing after the busy day. Welland Canal - I thought the boat was sinking - they were carrying grain from Goderich, I'd like to ride on that ship - it moves so slowly - the flight locks lift the ship three steps. Ford Motor Co. - Everything was so mechanical - I liked seeing the process from beginning to end. I thought there was more to building cars - a new car every 68 seconds. Black Creek Pioneer Village - I liked the way they demonstrated pioneer activities - unique - a very detailed collection - neat, I'd like to see it again - needs a cool day. McLaughlin Planetarium - what happened to the roof? - the setting was intriguing - I'll pay more attention to the stars from now on - best of all. Commerce Court - A tremendous view - the elevator was hard on the ears - 54 floors in 28 seconds, WOW! - It kills about 100 birds a day. Parliament Buildings - The legislative chamber is beautiful - too bad we didn't see and hear a session - what a library - Mr. Riddell is interesting to talk to. Casa Loma - Where's the secret passage? - glad I don't have to clean this house - interesting structure - lovely - very neat. Science Centre - I could spend a week there - did you see the electrical display? - I babysat a rock - self education is sure possible there - too much mechanical stuff - I felt in- dependent. Ontario Place - The theatre is really impressive - more displays are needed - terrific, especially the rock concert and the movies. "The trip was good because all of the kids got to know each other better and they shared with others and helped them out. We also got to know the teachers better." "Accommodation and planning was good. We packed a lot into three days." "The bus drivers were better than we thought they'd be." "I hope next year's Grade pupils can have the same trip." The trip was supervised by Mrs.Hartley and Mr. Jewitt. Mr. Chapman and Mrs. Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Vert assisted them. USED CARS 1970 SUNBEAM ALPINE GT, radii?, tope deck.
