T-A photo Arrangements underway for resort cadet project E ALE Darling's CLOVERFARM The Lake Huron resort com- munity of Grand Bend will re- sound to the beat of military bands, marching troops, flags and ceremony this summer. A Cadet Day is to be held at Grand Bend on Saturday August 10 and the organization is really beginning to roll. A Cadet Day Committee has been formed to put the many details together to ensure a rewarding day for the cadets and a memorable spec- tacle for the many guests who visit Grand Bend each summer. IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD The final meeting of the summer of Dashwood W.I. was held at Arc Industries with the Citizenship and World Affairs group in charge and Mrs. Emil Becker, convener. Mr. Rawlings welcomed the group and was in charge of a tour of the building. He explained the work being done by 'the young men and ladies there. Roll call was "Something I have seen on the tour". Several visitors were also present. Mrs. Bill Berends gave an interesting talk on nutrition and gave the ladies bulletins to help in meal planning. Mrs. Ray Rader reported on the District Annual. Dashwood W.I. will host the annual next year. The institute will sponsor a Historical meeting in September. Hurondale sent the list for Exeter Fair and Mrs. Bill Ilerends, Mrs. Howard Datars, and Mrs. Eben Weigand were appointed to be in charge of the exhibit. Brownies The meeting opened with a game of musical chairs. Opening exercises were followed by a craft period when Father's Day presents were made. Brown Owl announced no meeting this week with Brownie_ The June meeting of the Senior Citizens was held Wednesday afternoon with a program and dinner at the Village Inn Retreat with 46 in attendance. An invitation was read from Ray Buchanan inviting the group to the North Lambton Rest Rome in. Forest, where his musical group will be playing on June 18 at 2:30 p.m, Mrs. Art Webb gave a report nf the Seminar held in Clinton, where a physical fitness program Was put on by the Registered Nurses Association, and demonStrated by ladies from the London Senior Citizens. Mrs, Ross Love had . the group practicing some of these •exer- cises they learned at Clinton. The following guests were introduced, Rev. & Mrs. H, Dobson, of the United church, Mr, & Mrs. James Qrr of , Parkhill, Andy Orr of Exeter and Mr, & Mrs. William Blewett. Mrs. Blewett organized this group in 1970. The Orrs, with Mrs. Ross Love at piano_ en- tertained with toe tapping, hand clapping music. The entertainment chairman had several guessing games and the following won prizes: Mrs. Susie Devine, Rev. H. Dobson, Art Finkbeiner, Mrs. Wellwood Gill, Ross Love, Andy Orr, Mrs. C. Reeves, Mrs. Letta Taylor, Mrs. George Tomlinson. This was the last meeting of the season until September. Personals Mr. Raymon English is a patient in South Huron hospital at Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Belt, Milford, Michigan and Mrs. Joseph Moore, Detroit, are spending this week with Mrs. Leroy Bariteau, Mrs. Marjorie Knight, London, spent the weekend with her sister Mr. & Mrs. Wellwood Gill. Sunday supper guests with the Gills were Mr. & Mrs, Ron Mitchell and •boys, Ailsa Craig, and Mr. & Mrs. James Patterson. Emery Stebbins is a patient at St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Other members are Gerald Kading, president of the Grand Bend Lions Club, Larry McLennan, president of the legion branch, Borden Clarke and George Gallant also representing the Legion on the committee. Douglas Martin represents the village council while Allan Best and Norma Baird; were ap- pointed to represent The Chamber of Commerce, Glen Grindlay, a retired senior military officer, is also on the committee. The Department of National Defence in Ottawa has approved cadet participation and already a company of army cadets and their band from Camp Ipperwash have indicated their willingness to participate. In addition, two bus loads of airforce cadets will arrive from summer camp at Trenton. Navy League and Sea Cadets will arrive from units in London and St. Thomas have also indicated their desire to attend. It is ftxpected that the Navy Cadets will bring along their fine Cadet Band and the Navy League Wrenette Corps which consists of girls from 13-19 years of age. A special marching and concert band from the cadet camp at Camp Borden will be giving a short demonstration of their talents after the parade. The parade will move off at 7 p.m. from the Legion hall. During the parade judges will be marking each units performance on dress, deportment, discipline etc. A commemorative scroll will be given for the .best unit on parade. After the presentation the parade will dismiss back at the Legion Hall where townspeople and the service clubs will provide food and entertainment for the cadets to show the villages ap- preciation. The purpose of Cadet Day is to extend official recognition as cadets have been part of the colorful summer scene at Grand Bend for years. An event of this nature gives the public a unique opportunity to see and judge the results of their excellent training for themselves. In addition, an occasion of .this nature helps build 'esprit' among the cadets and provides them an opportunity ,to learn more about other cadet organizations and their aims. The committee hopes to en- courage all of the citizens of Grand Bend to lend a hand to ensure the success of this un- dertaking. Many people, organizations and business - persons will be asked to donate time and' effort to guarantee a spectacular attraction which could very well become an an- nual international- event.
