celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday with a family dinner

TO•BE MARRIED — Mr. and Mrs. Manfred M. Penninton, Parkhill are
pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter,
Susan Jane to Neil D. McLean, son of Mrs. Ruby McLean, Ailsa Craig
and the late Douglas* McLean. The wedding will take place Saturday,
June 29 at their residence in Parkhill.
Exeter United Church Women
general meeting . was held
Monday evening with the
president Mrs. Earl Russell in
charge of the business.
The meeting, opened with the
reading of a poem, followed by a
hymn and prayer. The treasurers
report revealed a nice amount on -
hand and it was decided to give
$2000 to the church board.
The annual bazaar will be held
in November. The program was
in charge of Unit 2. The theme of
the worship was "Humility" with
scripture, devotion and prayer by
Jean Pooley and Beth Batten. A
piano number by Lois Ottewell, a
medley of well known songs one
of which was Amazing Grace,
was very much enjoyed.
The speaker for the evening
was the Rev. Mr, Snell who took
for his text "What doth the Lord .
require of us, but to do justly, to
love mercy and to walk humbly
with God."

Reception for local .couple.,
celebrate golden anniversary

Mr. and. Mrs, Alvin Moir were
honoured at a family dinner,
Friday, at the Green Forest
Motor Hotel, Grand Bend to
celebrate their 50th wedding
anniversary,
Alvin Moir and Ila Mitchell
were married at the home of the
bride's parents, the late Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Mitchell, Usborne
Township, on June 7, 1924. They
were attended by the groom's
sister, Lila and the bride's
brother, • Earl, both now
deceased.
Mr. and Mrs, Moir farmed on
Thames Road East (Hwy. 83)
until 1963, when they retired to
Southcott Pines and then to
Exeter.
Both Mr. and Mrs, Moir enjoy
good health and are active in
community affairs.
They. have two daughters, Mrs.
Shirley Lyons and Mrs. Norma
Squires, three granddaughters
and one great, granddaughter, all
of London.
The couple received cards,
messages and gifts from many,
including the provincial and
federal governments,
Guests at a reception held at
Caven Presbyterian Church in
Exeter, came from several points
in Michigan, Toronto, Calgary,
Paris, London and the
surrounding area.
4-H girls welcomed
at Hurondale
The Hurondale Womens
Institute meeting, held recently,
opened with the Ode and Creed.
The president Mrs. Carl Mills
welcomed the 4-H girls and the
home economist Jane Pengilley.
The roll call was, "Were you
ever a 4-H girl or lead and how
many clubs did you take or lead."
The motto "History of 4-H work,"
was given by Jane Pengilley. She
also spoke on "Whats new in the
department."
Mrs. Edith Love thanked Miss
Pengilley and Mrs. Wm Dougall
presented her with a gift. The 4-H
girls club number four gave a
humorous skit under the
leadership of Mrs. Betty Clark
and Mrs. Olive Thomson. 4-H
club number 6 under the
leadership of Connie Kernick and
Kathy Easton with Karen Ker-
nick spoke on Hair Care,
The Institute served lunch for
the Senior Citizens June 4. The
blossom tea at Huronview was
held June 5, The Institute is
catering to the Usborne school
graduation class June 25 at
Kirkton, Mrs, Wm Dougall who
attended the Officers Conference
recently gave a report.
It was decided that the Institute
have a display at Kirkton Fair.
Mrs. Garnet Hicks gave a report
of the District annual held in
Zurich, May 16. Mrs. Alvin Moir
who is celebrating her 50th
wedding anniversary and has
been an Institute member for 55
years presented her neighbor
MrS. Milton Keller with an
Institute pin. The meeting closed
with the Hymn of all nations.
Family reunion held,
50 members attend
The King family reunion was
held Sunday at Riverview Park,
Exeter with 50 in attendance.
Winners of the games were:
candy scramble, girls 5 and
under - Leanne Jennison; boys 5
and under - Michael Preszcator;
ages 6-8 - Billy Preszcator.
Skipping contest Joy Webb;
jacks game - Billy Preszcator;

On Saturday, June 8 the Exeter
and Hensall Girl Guides held a
rally at the Exeter Scout Hall.
The day opened with a full
inspection and presentation of
company colours.
The girls then formed a mixed
group and joined in various
relays. This was followed by
several competitions such as
building a fire and cooking an
eatable pancake, tying up a
bedroll making it waterproof and
suitable for any type of transport,
administering first aid, various
quizzes,a baton relay,tug of wars,
and many other activities.
Points and ribbons were
awarded for each of these
competitions.
After a quick supper which was
highlighted by the girls
presenting the leaders with two
giant bull frogs on their supper
table, the two companies joined
for a short singsong outdoors.The
results of the day's competition s
were read and Exeter Company
was presented with a plaque for
coming in first place.
