enjoyed the U.C.W. Fashion Show
last Tuesday evening in the
Lucan Arena. Mrs. Robert Stett
was an excellent commentator,
Mrs. S, Revington, president,
welcomed the guests and thanked
the models, Gary and Marlyne
McFalls for the fashions, and
Mrs, Larry HotSon, organist,
The tables were beautifully
decorated with potted geraniums
and daffodils by Mr. & Mrs.
George Carpenter, and Mrs.
James Lockyer and her
assistants served the luscious

members of the 1.I.C.W.

On Saturday, May 11 the Lucan "Doug" for making the trip
and Centralia. C.G.I.T. groups happy and safe One,
spent the day in Toronto. The
first stop was at Casaloma,
where the girls and their leaders
visited towers, dungeons and the
many elegant rooms of the castle.
-After shopping at the gift shop
they proceeded to the Science
Centre where they were divided
into groups to tour various
exhibits.
Brenda and Marjorie Dyketnan
volunteered to participate in a
static electricity demonstration
and did very well, At 6 p.m. the
groups left the Science Centre for
home, stopping for dinner at a
restaurant on the 401. They
arrived home at 9:30 after a very
exciting day.

On Saturday evening, Mr. &
Mrs. Ross McRoberts attended
the 25th Anniversary of the 1948,-
49 class of the London Normal
School held at the school, now
used as the London Education
Centre. Mrs. Carl Crocker of
Dorchester, (nee Patricia
Gowlett) and Ted Blake, of
London both former teachers in
Lucan and Mrs. Cecelia Goyle
(pee Toohey) of London, for-
merly of Biddulph twp. were also
irk attendance.
Mr. & Mrs. C. P. Corbett and J.
Alex Young travelled to Flint
Michigan Sunday, May 5, to visit
relatives, following the death of a
cousin, Mr. Dale Argew.
Mothers' Day guests with Mr.
Members of the Lucan
Women's Institute held their May
meeting a week early, last
Wednesday at the home of Mrs,
Frank Hardy Sr. The roll call was
answered by naming a Canadian
city and its population and by
giving the name of an out-
standing citizen in Middlesex
County.
Mrs. R. R. Crozier, convener
for citizenship and world affairs
gave a most interesting paper on
"What Is A Canadian"? Mrs.
Hardy read a poem "Farm Life"
and Mrs. Frank Jolliffe a second
poem "I Shall Not Live in Vain".
The 1974-75 officers were in-
stalled by a past president, Mrs.
S. Revington.
During the business meeting,
chaired by the new president,
Mrs. James Lockyer, an an-
nouncement was made of
Achievement Day for this area at
Medway on June 8, It was also

An invitation to a "Tweedsmuir
Tea" was received from
Riverview Institute, to be held at
the Masonic Hall in Ailsa Craig
on Thursday, May 23; and an
invitation was issued to all
members to attend an "Inter-
national Supper" at 6:30 on
Wednesday, May 22 in the United
Church as a "thank you" from
the 4-H Clubs.
Mrs. Harold Snelgrove, North

to the War Memorial Children's
4 Mrs. Harold Cobleigh were Mr,
& Mrs. Brent Bamford and Tod,
and Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Mayhew,
Carl and Robbie, all of London.
Mr. & Mrs. J. Alex Young have
become great-grandparents, with
the birth of Trudy Marie to Mr. &
Mrs. Bill Young, Vanastra Park.
Mr, & Mrs. Donald Young of
Waterloo are the grandparents.
The 24th grandchild has also
arrived, a baby daughter to Mr. &
Mrs. Jack Young of Sudbury,
Mr. & Mrs, Maurice McDonald
of Grand Bend, Mr. & Mrs. Peter
Sovereign, and children,
Lucan, and Mr. & Mrs. T. Kooy of
Huron Park, were Mothers' Day
guests with Mr. & Mrs. Howard
McDonald and family.
Hospital reported on the last
meeting of the Women's
Auxiliary and handed out some
wee jackets to be sewn.
Branch Directors, Mrs. Cecil
Robb and Mrs. Jolliffe reported
011 visits to former members who
are now shut-ins or semi-shut-ins
in the village, in McCormick
Home and in Extendicare.
Mrs. M. H. Hodgins, North
Middlesex resolutions convener
reported on the recent Officers'
Conference, held at the
University of Waterloo. The
mystery prize was won by Mrs.
James Lockyer.

PAPER DRIVE
Brownies wish to announce
their Paper Drive for Saturday
morning, May 25, weather per-
mitting. Please tie papers in
packages small enough for
Brownies to carry, and place at
curb as early as possible, as drive
must be completed and paper
taken into London by noon.
Jane Corbett is working in a
museum in Cuenca, Spain, for a.
month.

Mr. & Mrs. Donald Hodgins and
family of 'Merton.
Last Thursday, Rev. John
Hofland visited with former
Lucanites at the McCormick
Home.
On Monday afternoon, a
W.M,S, group from St. James
Presbyterian Church held their
May meeting in the McCormick
Home where the McCormick
choir, under the direction of Miss
L. E. Abbott, provided a musical
program.
Mrs. Cecil Robb and Mrs.
Frank Jolliffe as Women is
Institute Branch Directors
visited with Lucan friends in
Extendicare and the McCormick
Home last week.
Mrs. Katherine Fischer spent
Sunday in London, guest with Mr.
& Mrs. Larry Rodin and Kennon
and Jamie Fischer.
Mr. & Mrs. Russel Thompson,
Jane and Jean, spent Mothers'
Day with the latter's parents, Mr.
& Mrs. George Bullock of Zurich.

A London girl was killed in an
accident on Highway 4, about a
Mile and a half south of Lucan
early Saturday morning.
Marsha Louise Perry, aged 16
of 347 Calgary street, London was
pronounced dead at the scene by
coroner Dr. R. S. Shearer of
London.
Miss Perry was a passenger in
a vehicle driven by Edith Rid-
sdale 434 Spruce street, London.
The driver of the other vehicle
involved was Gary Wayne
Gingerich, Zurich.
The drivers of the two vehicles
were released after treatment at
University Hospital, London.
Two other passengers in the
vehicle driven by Miss Risdale
remain in University Hospital
with serious injuries. They are
Doris Butler, Sgt. at Arms, Helen
Ewan.
There they are, Comrades,
they were elected the democratic
way by majority vote — now its
up to all the members to support
-them — Let's make the term of
74-75 really come alive, only you
can do it.

Saturday at 8:00 p.m. the in-
stalation team from Branch 167,
Exeter have been invited to in-
stall our 1974-75 officers — we
also plan to hold a mass initiation
of new members Regular,
Associate and Honorary.
All members who fit into the
above categories and have not
been initiated please make note
of this date, I feel sure that you
will find it a rewarding ex-
perience. Following the initiation
and installation services, to
which all members of the legion,
their ladies and guests are in-
vited, there is to be dancing to the
music supplied by 'The
Heywoods' followed by a
smorgasbord lunch.
All this is to be free, the only
cost being the refreshments.
There it is Members — should be
a real great evening to be enjoyed
with our Comrades from Exeter.

annual father and son hockey
banquet and presentation of
awards is this Saturday, May 18,
Make it a point to bring your son
not send him. I am sure your boy
is looking forward to having this
night out with his dad, please do
not disappoint him.
At the May general meeting the
members of Branch 540 allotted
$300.00 to support and sponsor a
pee wee fast ball team in the
recently created fast ball league
for the youth of the area. Just
another instance of your Legion
at work in the community.
Lionel Kendrick of Lucan at-
tended at the May general
meeting to make the monthly
cheque draw, he not being in
anyway connected with the draw
— the winner was Comrade Carl
Stuckless, and you can believe it
he's realty Smilin'.
While on the subject of draws
Comrade Charlie Couglin won the
$25,00 general meeting at-
tendance draw (for a second
time).
All Comrade Charlie had to do

into the Lucan recreational
baseball league. Conic on over

half mile north of Highway 7,

damages at $900.
Vehicles were driven by Arthur
Humphrey, RR 1 St. Marys and
William Sherwood, RR 2 Den-
field,
Friday evening a vehicle
driven by Kenneth Rae, 762
Cheapside street, London left
Concession Road 9 in London
township, a mile and a quarter
east of Highway 4 and struck a
culvert.
Rae and two passengers suf-
fered only minor cuts and
bruises. Constable James Craig
set damages at $1,000.
Thursday morning at 10:55
a.m. a vehicle driven by Lorraine
Brown, 1073 Chippewa drive,
London left Adelaide street, north
of Concession 15 in London
township and struck a tree
stump.
Cpl. Don Cox investigated
and estimated damages at $400.
A Wednesday afternoon
collision on Middlesex County
Road 23 at Bryanston caused
damages of $700.
Involved were vehicles driven
by Arnold Hudson, RR 3 Ilderton
and Mac Matthews, 37 Benson
Crescent, London.

Gaye Moon was honoured by
relatives and friends at a
miscellaneous shower on
Tuesday evening, at the home of
Mrs. Howard McDonald, Butler
Street, who was assisted by Mrs.
Ross Holden and Mrs. Robert
Maslen.

McDonald assisted the bride
elect in opening her gifts. Gaye
