The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1974-04-04, Page 9Vic Anysymiw the road fore- man for the village of Grand Bend for the past three years tendered his resignation to council Monday night. Anysymiw in a written resignation handed to Reeve Robert Sharen said the lack of opportunity for advancement was one of his reasons for giving up the position. A few minutes later' he said council's refusal at the beginning of the current year for a salary increase and failure to comply with some terms of reference of the position were instrumental in his decision. Anysymiw took over the village road foreman's post in February, 1971 when James Connolly resigned to take a similar position in Southampton. His resignation was accepted on a motion of councillors Murray Des Jardins and John Teevins, It will take effect on April 30. Council decided to advertise for a replacement immediately with applications to be in the hands of the clerk by 12 noon on April 15. A petition signed by seven property owners along the banks of the Ausable River in the village called for action to stop erosion. One of the owners Emmery Stebbins accompanied by his son-in-law Stephen township deputy reeve Cecil Desjardine presented the petition for assistance. Stebbins said part of his house located on the east side of High- way 21 near the main intersection was in danger of being un- dermined. Desjardine asked council to investigate the possibility of having the erosion control project undertaken on a scheme similar to a municipal drain, A motion was passed asking the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority to survey the situation, Other property owners signing the petition were Elmer Webb, Lee Jennison, Terry Gaudry, Etta Baker, Hazel Stebbins and Evelyn Whiteford. A building permit application from Alex Leatherland was tentatively accepted subject to the approval of building inspector Tom Webster who is holidaying in Florida. Leatherland proposes alterations to his dwelling at an estimated cost of $5,000. Council has received a letter from Ontario Minister ' of National Resources Leo Bernier in reply to a recent resolution asking that the Pinery Park be opened to snowmobilers on a yearly licence fee basis. Bernier's reply was as follows: "Pinery Park is now open for snowmobilers on a regular day fee basis when snow conditions permit, In the pinery as in many of our other parks we have to be careful that the indiscriminate use of snow machines does not adversely affect the natural features of the environment. A yearly licence system for snowmobiles would have a detrimental effect on our current control regulation and established safety standards for the use of snowmobiles in the park. I share your concern regarding the increasing number of ac- cidents by snowmobile operators on roads in rural areas. Many of these accidents can occur anywhere and our approach must necessarily include public education for safer snowmobile practices. This study will help us to plan a wise pattern for winter activities for the park." The original suggestion for a yearly licence fee for snowmobiles came from coun- cillor John Teevins. He said machines had very few places to operate and paid high licence and insurance fees. i FRESH BUTT Pork HOMEMADE STORE-SLICED Cooked Sausage PORK, Chops Ham - LB LB „s1 AVISNAWAYMCNFOOPPRInerd 79` 89' .39 UTILITY Chicken SWEET Cottage FRESH Spare GRADE PICKLED - 5 LBS Ribs ROASTING & UP Rolls . ) 4 LB 69` LB89c LB 89( reth Frk Schneider's Po 'Shoulders Wieners . ,;,.,1 voblanoo ._ s - ,,:•I ' 'ninl L B 9 B Lb! It was estimated that the cost of having the sidewalk swept would be around $150. During the discussion, Mrs. Jenny!) noted the amount of money that could be saved if residents would only assist council in such chores. Kells agreed, adding that a considerable saving would result if residents would put their garbage containers out together Resort councillors accept resignation of road foreman
