In the first three games played, the visiting team has won each time. Both victories by the Jets came in overtime and an, Exeter native fired the winning goals. In the opening game of the series in Durham a week ago Sunday, Bill Fairbairn who missed quite a few games during the season because of injuries scored the winner and Sunday afternoon also in overtime Barry Baynham gave the Jets the victory with a well earned goal. The games to date have featured good wide open play with referees Frank Slota and Bill Divorski keeping both clubs sticking strictly to hockey. The Stratford Perths had little trouble in eliminating the Preston Jesters in the other semi-final set and will have a good rest in waiting for the Jets-Huskies winner, Two Bunny Bundle races Easter weekend, two canoe races will be held in the area to support Bunny Bundle and Crippled Children. The first event goes Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at Hul- ly Gully, It is sponsored jointly by Hully Gully and the Bayfield Lions club. The races begin at the Hully Gully bridge. The first three classes which include novelty, family and service clubs, media or council members will complete their jaunt at the Varna bridge. We know of one canoe from Exeter entered in the Hully Gully race, It will be manned by John Dudleigh and Sandy Matheson of the local office of Avco Financial Services. The now famous St. Marys to Fanshawe canoe race originally scheduled for this Sunday has been postponed un- til Easter Sunday because of the heavy rains of Monday. John Calcott of Edgewood, one of the original organizers called to say officials of the Upper Thames Valley Conservation Authority felt the Fanshawe park and parking lot area would be too muddy and considerable damage could be caused. Over the first seven years of its existence the race which starts in St. Marys has raised more than $80,000 for crippled kids, Last year's donation was well over $14,000. Rene Boogemans of Hensall will be one of the entrants in the Easter Sunday race. Best wishes for recovery Sporting fans in the area will be happy to hear that Whipper Billy Watson is recovering satisfactorily from a re- cent illness. Watson who was a big hit at the recent Lions club Sportsmen's Dinner here in town was taken to the intensive care unit of York Memorial Hospital in Newmarket early last week tuff erirg from exhaustion. He had just rVirned from a cross-Canada tour on behalf of Easter Seals campaign for crippled children and also par- ticipated in a 30 hour television show to raise funds for a therapeutic swimming pool at York County Hospital. Watson stole the show from some of the younger more active sport stars at the Crippled Children's dinner, with his commentary and words of wisdom about handicapped peo- ple. Batter up That's the sound which we hope emanates from Jarry Park in Montreal this afternoon, Thursday. The Expos are due to play host to the Chicago Cubs in the first game of the National league season if the groundskeepers are able to get rid of the snow which covered the field as late as a week ago. The weatherman seems to be co-operating so the season should be away officially in Canada. Most of the big league club were busy at the trading auc- tion during the winter and quite a few changes have taken place. Probably the biggest departure took place with the Chicago Cubs. Mr. Wrigley and company traded away at least five of their top performers including Canada's greatet contribution to the big leagues, Fergie Jenkins. Fergie is now with the Texas Rangers, Also leaving Chicago were catcher Randy Huntley, third baseman Ron Santo, second sacker Glen Beckert and first baseman Jim Hickman. The biggest addition to Gene Mauch and his Montreal Expos is outfielder Willie Davis who should add plenty to both the offence and defence of the Montreal team. Another top 'Canadian pitcher, Reggie Cleveland was traded to the Boston Red Sox who also picked up Juan Marichal, The Detroit Tigers did very little in player acquisition as Jim Campbell and company seem to be satisfied to stick with a bunch of veterans. The only notable acquired over the winter was catcher Jerry Moses, The Cleveland Indians got Jim Perry in a trade and he will join brother Gaylord on the pitching staff, A 4a, 4,, '4L 4.40AkA 6Mg.Lli aiWM11,Aln'
