Goalie Lorne Daer played an
important part in the Sunday win
for the Jets over London. In
addition to playing a standout
game in goal, Daer picked up
assists on two of his team's goals.
He was credited with assists on
Jamie Robb's second period
marker and the last goal of the
game when Jim Pinnegar picked
up the puck from the goalie and
shot it the length of the ice into
the empty London net.
The Jets held a 2-0 lead at the
end of the first period thanks to
the two goal effort of Jacques
Cousineau. The first score came
on a power play with assists
going to Steve Proctor and Jack
Nairn.
On the second successful
'Cousineau shot assists were
picked up by Jamie Robb and
defenceman Jim Pinnegar.
The only goal of the middle
session came at the 7.15 mark
when Jamie Robb completed a
three-way passing play started
by goalie Lorne Daer, Bill Bourne
was the middle man,
The third period was only a
little more than a minute old
when the Kings hit the
scoreboard. Mark Marcera was
the goal getter.
Then the Jets took over in a
scoring way and found the range
on three occasions to take a
comfortable 6-1 lead.
At 8,31, Jeff Craig after taking
a pass from Terry Bourne hit
Doug Galloway with a pass just
inside the blueline and the
veteran performer made no
mistake with a good shot from the
left side.
Five minutes later, Tony
Herlick hit the mark with a
blazing slap shot from the blue-
line. Assists went to Cousineau
and Robb.
After the 16 minute marker
another Jets power play paid off
with Jack Nairn hitting the net on
a play started by Barry Baynham
and Jacques Cousineau,
The London club was able to
mount a good scoring threat and
notched three goals in less than
two minutes near the end of the
game. The marksmen were John
Lutes, Hugh Smibert and Jim
Walker.
With the Kings attempting to
get closer with a sixth attacker,
Pinnegar shot the puck the length
of the ice for the seventh Jet goal
of the night.
The shots on goal were very
even with the Jets leading 38-37.
Bill Bourne of the Jets and Bob
Blackburn of London received
fiveyninute penalties for fighting.
