"China is one of the safest
nations in the world," said the
guest speaker at Thursday's
annual Farmers Night of the
Exeter Lions club.
Warren Michaels of WM( in
London was one of the newsmen
accompanying Prime Minister
Trudeau on his recent trip to
China and he related many of his
observations of the trip.
In talking about the safety of
the country he. said policemen do
not carry guns and it isn't
necessary to lock your room in
the hotels. He continued, "if you
leave something in your hotel
room of unimportance a Chinese
person is liable to show up at the
airport bringing it back to you."
Persons charged with murder
have two chances. They face
immediate death or two years in
jail and a chance to repent.
Michaels added, "the Chinese are
big on repentance. But, there is
very little evidence of any
crime."
The Chinese were described as
being conservative in all aspects
of life, "They. are very con-
servative in energy, food and
clothing. A 40 watt light bulb is
normal for most rooms and their
clothing is very plain," said the
newsman.
He continued, "fashions are
non-existent and colorful clothing
is worn on only special occasions

John Bierling who suffered a
serious eye injury in an Ausable

ago has been released from
hospital.
While playing goal he was
struck in the mask with a slap
shot and his left eye was injured.
When contacted by the T-A
Tuesday Bierling was wearing
•sun glasses and said he had
partial sight of the affected eye.
In answer to a question as to
returning to play hockey again he
said quickly, "I sure will, It was
just an accident and, nobody's
fault, so I will be raring to get
back in goal."
