The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1974-01-31, Page 2By MANUEL CURTS GREENWAY It began at 8:30 p.m. sharp. But it didn't end dull. Not this year. It was the annual meeting of Greenway United Church, held Monday evening with the Rev. Harold Dobson as chairman, and Jacob Lagerwerf, secretary. True, there was only one more in attendance than there was last year, and the attendance itself was nothing to brag about, but interest ran high for various reasons. For one thing all the organizations finances were reported to be in good shape, with the treasurer of the stewards reporting the highest balance on hand ever. And the mission and service fund was over-subscribed too. However, members were reminded that the minister's salary is at the minimum and the M,&S, allocation in the opinion of some, isn't exactly what it should be, considering the membership enrollment. The new hymn book was discussed; that is, to buy or not to buy. But decision was deferred. Many members feel it's too large, and that is difficult to read the words and the music at the same time. The Willing Workers an active group in the church won a motion- Of 'aPpreciation for installing electric base-board heaters in the to her home after visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Bud Gallagher and family of Ottawa. Next year the church will be 100 years old and members were urged to present ideas, for a year of celebration. For the five members who had died during the year, a short service was held honoring their years of service in the church and community. Three new names were added to the session members whose terms had ended in the various organizations were re-elected. And all this was accomplished without even a cup of coffee!
