Approval was given to grants of $25 each to the Salvation Army, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Mental Health Ontario and War Memorial Children's Hospital. However, a couple of members said they would liked to have had the St. John Ambulance again this year and so a second motion approving $25 to that organization was approved. He said the committee had decided to get prices on new vehicles rather than used cars and a recommendation as to the unit to be purchased will be made at the next meeting. In December, council agreed to spend up to $1,200 on a used car for the poilice department. It was said to be required because the policemen didn't want to use their own cars to transport prisoners to jail. The police committee was given power to act on the matter. All residents of the county would notify the central dispatcher of the need for assistance and the person in charge would then notify the appropriate fire department. "As far as I'm concerned, it's opt," peeve Boyle stated. Councillor Wright, a member of the local fire department, did not support the suggestion, predicting it would create further delays in having assistance on the way. Mayor Jack Delhridge cited the problem that would exist if telephone service was cut by wires being down between Exeter and the central dispatch office.
