OUT WITH THE OLD
IN WITH THE NEW!
This frequently heard expression can be
applied to more than the ringing out of 1973
and the welcoming in of 1974. It can in fact be
p-taliq description of many medicines we
stock in our pharmacy. For, most of the new
drugs your physician is prescribing today, were
not around a few years ago. And many drugs
so popular — just a short while ago are not
even being made anymore.
But — we do feel compelled to add that
not all the "old" are on the way out, We
still get calls to compound many medicines
and for drugs that have become old standbys.

Mrs. Marion Brechin of the
Consumers Association Of
Canada is tindonbtely a very
smart and dedicated woman, Her
oganization does a lot in research
and advice to consumers on the
products that are for sale in this
fair country,
However, like almost anyone
else, she has a blind spot. Some-
one with a blind spot who pursues
their idea of necessity blindly is
called a fanatic on this particular
issue. Mrs, Brechins blind spot is
marketing boards. One pan
assume that she doesn't see right
or wrong as soon as the term is
mentioned. Having said as much,
I have to support this statement,
She claimed in an attack on the
new national turkey board, that
after the egg board was formed,
the egg prices shot up, and she
was right, What she doesn't want
to see, is that the egg price had to
KIRKTON-WOODHAM FARMERS CLUB - A large increase of business for 1973 was reported Thursday pt

The financial statement of the
Kirkton-Woodham Farmers for
the year 1973 presented at the
annual meeting Thursday
showed a large increase over the
previous year's business.
Total classified receipts for
1973 were listed at $698,665.76, an
increase of $117,762.54. The
balance of receipts over ex-
penditures was $13,139.13. In 1972
this figure amounted to $4,282.68.
The salary of secretary-
go up or all egg producers would
have been bankrupt by new, and
we would be dependent on
American eggs, Dut American
egg prices are higher than ours.
So without an egg board the price
of egos would have been higher
now than they actually are.
Here are some supporting
figures, figures that are available
to Mrs. Brechin. In August 1973
the egg producer had a profit
margin of 4.5 cents doz. Price to
Ontario producers 68-70 cents
doz. US price 70.82 cents doz. On
January 6, 1974 because of lower
feed cost, the production cost
dropped by 2.4 cents doz., the
profit dropped to 2.1 cents doz,
and the price set by the board to
the producer dropped 6 cents doz.
to 63 cents.
This is still 10 cents below the
US price, where they have none
of Marion's hated marketing
boards. Her claim than that the
price didn't come down after feed,
costs dropped off somewhat is
also false, as you can see in the
above figures. That they didn't
drop back to a loss level is only
fair to the egg producer and I
can't think of any who will
dispute this,
So you see folks that even
smart and dedicated people as
Mrs. Marion Brechin can not
always be depended upon to give
both sides an equal hearing,
At last, after more than 25 years
of discrimination by doctors
against meat, truth is coming
out. Last year a less well known
US doctor spoke out against his
colleges for linking meat and
cholesterol and heart disease.
Now no less than Dr. Wm, C.
Sherman of the National Food
and Health Agency (USA) says
that new research has proven
that there is no relationship
between meat eating and heart
disease.

At any rate, Exeter council

Property for the street was
provided in a deal made with the

Council decided to name the
street Industrial Road after
turning down a suggestion it be
called MacNaughton in honor of
the former Huron MPP.
Mrs. Keller this week advised
council through Reeve Boyle, that
shehad wanted the Streetp'''''"

have this included as partint the
agreement.
Members of council agreed to
the change, although Reeve
Boyle wasn't certain of the exact
name.
Mayor Delbridge said he
favored Rosemount.
Councillor Shaw said the name
Industrial Road was not
imaginative and suggested
council name streets "after the
characters who have done
something for Exeter".
"Imagine having a Boyle
Boulevard," retorted Councillor
Patterson.
