Teams from Trenton and Exeter have built up a friendly rivalry in recent years with visits between
various teams from the communities. This year's outing will be the largest undertaking ever with six
teams coming to Exeter this weekend, The local youngsters will be returning in March, In last year's
visit here by two teams, Mayor Jack Delbridge dropped the puck for the opening faceoff between
Trenton's Robert Longton and Exeter Waxer Scott Pincombe. In the background with flags of the
two countries are Wanda Newby and Brenda Pincombe.

This Saturday and Sunday the
Exeter Minor Hockey
Association will do its little part
to help celebrate minor hockey
week in Canada.
Six teams are coming here
from Trenton Michigan to play
Exeter teams, As well the Atom
'B' team will play a team from
Zurich and the Bantam `13' team
will play a team from St. Marys.
This will make eight regular
hockey games to be played on
Saturday plus the two
houseleague games by the
Atoms, Saturday morning at
their regular times.
The small Novice players will
be on the ice for their regular
session from 11 to 12 a,m, From 9
o'clock in the morning tip to 8
o'clock at night there will be a
hockey game played each hour
for these 11 hours,
Tickets are on sale at $1.00 per
day or the complete hockey
program Saturday and Sunday
for $1.50. On Sunday only the six
American teams will be here to
play games. The hockey starts at
11 a.m. and finishes at 5 p,m,
The Exeter Pee Wee team has
to go to St, Marys Sunday to
continue in the next phase of the
Legion Zone tournament. Our
team as winners of the tour-
nament held here earlier in
January will be in St. Marys. To
fill in for the Exeter team the St,
Marys pee Wee team has con-
sented to come to Exeter and
play the Sunday game against
Trenton.
The Hawks lost their game
here Friday to Mitchell but put up
a good game. Five regulars were
missing but with a little luck
could have won.
They have two more games to
play before play-offs, Clinton
here this Friday and Mitchell the
next week. It looks as if the
Hawks will finish sixth which
means the first play-off would he
with the third place team. The
play-offs are one and four, two
and five and three and six.
Cowan's B,P. won their second
game in a row with a 24 decision
over Don Taylor motors. Dave
Deibridge and Bill Simmons each
scored a goal for B.P. Ed. Cosman
scored the only goal for Taylor
Motors.
Lankamps Esso defeated
Conklin Lumber 3-1. Leon Jen-
son, Bruce Shaw and. Wayne
Smith were the marksmen for
Esso, The line goal scored for
Conklin was by Kevin Glasgow,
There is a need for more Senior
Citizens for bowling.' We have
about a dozen people interested
so far. At the least perhaps 18 to
20 persons before a start can be
made in regards to bowling,
Jets win over Patriots,
head for Reno series
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets im-
proved their scoring records this
week as they scored decisive
wins over the Michigan Patriots
in an Ontario Hockey Association
Continental Senior series,
Friday night in Ilderton, the
Jets accomplished a 12-3 victory
and Saturday afternoon in Utica,
Broncos cop
first place
The Exeter Broncos completed
the regular schedule of the atom
division of the Shamrock minor
hockey league this week and
clinched first place.
The 13roncos coached by Roh
Horn downed St. Marys 5-2
Wednesday night and continued
their winning ways with a 5-1
victory over Strathroy Saturday.
The season record for the
Exeter youngster reads 11 wins,
three losses and a pair of ties
good for 24 points. During the 16
games they scored 66 goals while
giving up only 35 to the op-
position.
David Bell led the Broncos
scoring attack in the win over
Strathroy with a pair of suc-
cessful shots, Adding single goals
were Peter Tuckey, Rick Lin-
denfield and David Underwood.
Picking up assists during the
game were Bill Glover, Dave
Jackson, Dave Shaw and Scott
Pincombe.
The victory over Strathroy was
accomplished with a good team
effort. Kevin Parsons, the only
double scorer for, the Broncos
started the counting as he
completed a three-way passing
effort with Dave Jackson and Bill
Glover.
The next score came on a solo
effort by David Bell and then
David Underwood took a pass
from Bill Glover to put the puck
into the opposing net,
Kevin .Parsons was back with
his second goal of the night with
the assist going to Dave Jackson
and 'Rick Lindenfield completed
the scoring on an unassisted
performance.
Michigan it was a resounding 14-1
win for the L-I club.
The Jets were in New Hamburg
last night, Wednesday to meet the
Screaming Eagles in their only
league start this week.
Friday morning at 8.15 they
leave the Detroit airport on a
flight to Reno, Nevada to meet
the Reno Aces in Friday and
Saturday night contests.
In 'the Friday night win,
playing coach Jack Nairn led the
scoring parade with a hat trick,
Counting in single fashion were
Pete Loveless, Jacques
Cousineau, Terry Bourne, Steve
Proctor, Barry Baynham and
Jamie Robb.
Rick Fifield was the top goal
producer in Utica Saturday night
,with_four • successful„sbots, Next
in line with two goals came Pete
Loveless. Getting one goal apiece
were Jamie Robb, Dick Doughty,
Tom Hodgins, Jacques
Cousineau, Dave Revington,
Doug Galloway, Terry Bourne
and Jeff Craig. •
Lorne Daer and Don Stewart
shared goal tending duties in both
games against the Patriots.
Waxers drop
close verdict
The Exeter Waxers dropped a
close 3-2 decision to Goderich at
the Exeter arena Friday night in
a novice exhibition game.
After each team had scored a
goal in the first period, the
Waxers jumped ahead 2-1 early
in the middle frame only to have
Goderich come back to score two
unanswered goals in the third
period.
Todd Rittinger notched the first
period Goderich marker while
John Kernick converted a
clearing pass from Brett Batten
to account for the Exeter goal.
Kernick on an unassisted effort
put the Waxers ahead tem-
porarily in the early minutes of
the second period.
The third period Goderich
scores were fired by Brent Fisher
and David Gallow.
