held in the Legion Hall January
16. After a pot luck dinner, Miss
Jane Pengilley, Huron's Home
Economist spoke about the
metric system.
She outlined the history of the
measuring system and explained
how to think metric. She said the
change to metric will be gradual
and will not be complete until 1980.
Mrs, Campbell Eyre com-
mented on the motto, If we do not
plant knowledge when we are
young, it will give us no shade
when we are old. The roll call was
answered by giving your
measurements in centimetres.
Members will have a booth at
Ernie Whitehouse's sale and will
also go to Huronview in March
for the birthday party.
A skit, A health stunt was
presented by the members.

The Charter was draped in
memory of Kathleen Campbell
and Bertha Sutton, past
presidents of the Rebekah
Assembly of Ontario,
Mrs. Consitt reported for the
visiting committee and the
meeting in Clinton, January 9,
informing that the speak off for
the Youth Pilgrimage will be held
February 27,
Mrs, Volland reported for the
C,P. & T committee stating a
euchre would be held Wednesday.
The committee for the 25th
anniversary of the lodge an-
nounced a banquet and program
would be held at the Pineridge
Chalet, February 10.
Following the meeting the
members enjoyed a sing song and
revealed their secret Pals by
presenting them with gifts.
A social hour concluded the
evening.
Unit II Hensall U.C.W.
Unit II of Hensall U,C,W. held
their January meeting Monday
evening at the church. Hazel
Corbett acted as chairlady, and
opened the meeting with a
reading, A New Years Pie.
The devotional "On New Years
Eve Have a Hot Bath';taken from
the United Church Observer, was
given by Mildred. McNaughton.
The roll Gall was answered by a
new years resolution 'I don't
intend to keep."
The study was given by Pat
Venner, introducing the new
study, book, Mission Impossible
— Unless. A skit, Give Us Our
Daily Bread, was presented by
Pat Venner, Hazel Corbett,
Lillian Blackwell, Irene Black-
well and Mildred McNaughton.
The business conducted by the
new Unit leader Grace Drum-
mond included plans for the
meeting, January 30, with a pot
luck supper at 6;30 World Day of
Prayer Service in the
Presbyterian Church, March 1.
Mrs. Drummond gave a
reading, New Horizons. Mrs
Corbett thanked everyone who
had taken part in the meeting and
Mona Alderdice conducted a
contest.

Janet Allen, Toronto, and
Marilyn Laing, Stratford, spent
the weekend at their homes here,
Because of the ice storm, both
Sunday School and church ser-
vices were cancelled Sunday
afternoon.. The hydro was
reported off in the village shortly
after noon and later the whole
area was without it. There were
many reports of broken bran-
ches, some laden with ice over
half an inch thick.
Those fortunate farmers who
had invested in generators were
able to carry on without any
difficulty, but many people found
themselves cooking with camp
stoves, pumping with chain saws,
etc.
Hydro still had not been
restored on the tenth of Hibbert
by 2:30 p.m. on Monday.

Chiselhurst U.C.W.
After a day of quilting and a pot
luck dinner, Chiselhurst U.C.W.
held their first meeting of the
year Tuesday afternoon.
The meeting was opened by the
new president Erla Coleman.
The worship, Time We Spend,
Was given by Vera Ross with
Pearl Taylor reading the
scripture. Mrs, Taylor was in
charge of the program and read
an article entitled, The Gift of the
Maji.
The roll call was answered with
14 members and one guest.
The offering was dedicated by
the president by reading a poem
and the treasurers report was
given.
A poem entitled, The Officer's
Prayer, was read by Mrs.
Coleman. The Finance Com-
mittee read their report for 1974.
The visiting committee for the
Aoilewing imonth,,will be Loretta
bailey and Eliza Kinsman, It was
•,-anpounced that the annual
meeting for Chiselhurst will be
Toronto over the weekend with
Mary Eileen Carey.
Parry Thompson, Toronto, was
a weekend guest with Mrs. Lois
