over building
The former L & M Cleaners
(previously Mid-Town Cleaners)
on William Street has been sold
and neighboring property owners
are concerned as to the future use
of the facilities,
Two of the neighboring
property pwners, John Varley
and Mrs, Keith Brintnell, ap-
peared before council this week
to determine if any plans were
being made regarding the
building.
Reeve Derry Boyle, chairman
for the meeting, said council
, members were just as much in
the dark as the delegates as no
one had approached council
regarding the building or its use.
Varley asked if they could be
advised when any discussion was
planned on the matter and
council members assured him
this would be done.
Councillor Ben Hoogenboom
said he had heard the building
would be converted into apart-
ments.
Varley said he had also heard
this and pointed out that approval
to add another storey to the
building would, in his opinion,
devalue neighboring properties.
"I don't think the walls would
carry another storey," Councillor
Bob Simpson advised,
The two ratepayers were also
advised the building was a non-
conforming use in a residential
zone and could not be used for
other commercial purposes.

CARDS OF THANKS Police Chief Ted Pay an-
nounced this week that John
O'Driscollhas been named to the
local police department as a
fourth -class .ctinstable. Re is
presently a corporal of the .RCR
in London and . ,will assume his
new duties in Exeter when he
receives bis discharge.
The announcement .of the
hiring of the new officer raised a
question from Councillor Ted
Wright He wondered why the
appointment had not been ap-
preyed by council.
Reeve Derry Boyle, chairman
of the police committee, said the
new officer had been approved by
his committeeand it had been the
practice over the years for the
committee to make the necessary
approval,
I wish to express my heartfelt
thanks to all who were,se kind, to me
during my stay in St. Joseph's
Hospital and since I returned home,
A very special thanks to Jack and
Eva Allister for helping out the day I
took ill, Also thanks to the Greenway
UCW, Parkhill O.E.S. and to friends,
neighbors and relatives for the many
get-well cards, letters; flowers, gifts
and visits I received. Your kindness
will always be remembered. —
Mildred Taylor 2p
At a December meeting,
Wright and couple of other
council members had questioned
the need for five men on the local
force,
Discussion at Monday's council
meeting indicated most members
had been shown the need for this
number of officers by Chief Ted
Day.
It was also indicated that the
police committee had asked the
Chief to undertake some regular
patrol work himself in an effort to
reduce the number of overtime
hours being accumulated each
month.
When the fifth member of the
department was added one year
ago, it was expected to eliminate
most of the overtime. However,
this did not come about,
At Monday's meeting, Chief
The family of the late Hazel

IN MEMORIAM —
DES JARDINE In loving memory
of dear husband and father who was
taken away from us so suddenly four
years ago, January 14, 1970.
Four sad and lonely years have
passed
Since our great sorrow fell
The shock, that we received that day
No one will ever tell
And it's so lonely here without you
No one else will ever know.
A million times we've needed you
A million times we've cried.
To our hearts, there comes a longing
If only you could come home
For life is not the same to us
Since you were called away
You bade no one a last farewell
Or even said Good Bye
You were gone before we knew
And only God knows why.
Always missed by Audrey and
family. 2c
