This is now about half done and I hope it can be finished this coming year. The new building to house the town's works department on Nelson street on property owned jointly by the town and the Public Utilities Commission will be completed early in the new year. In long range planning I would list construction of storm sewers and more work on sidewalk reconstruction and street paving. In the near future I would also like to see a senior citizens home built in Exeter. The Centennial celebrations a were the highlights of 1973 and I would like to send a sincere thank-you to the committee and everyone involved in making our 100th birthday party so suc- cessful. Special thanks should go to the Board of Trade and everyone involved in making the December 8 Santa Claus parade a terrific success. Also, I would like to add my thanks to the works department, the police department, the planning board, adjustment committee and anyone else in- strumental in working for the town of Exeter this year. In closing I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christ- mas and may 1974 be a prosperous year for Exeter and all its residents. By WILSON HODGINS Reeve of Biddulph Township Biddulph Township council has completed a busy year in 1973. However, there are a few projects still to be finalized, we hope in 1974. The Zoning By-law was submitted to the Ontario Municipal Board in January. We are still waiting for them to set a date for a hearing which has to be held before approval is received, Our Official Plan was sent to the Ministry of Treasury, Economics and Intergovern- . May it bring our good friends and patrons many moments rich with peace and contentment. mental Affairs in August. Apparently they are still studying this document. We have begun negotiations for a suitable water system for Granton. We are concerned for the health of the residents of Granton but we are equally concerned that the estimated cost of the project at $226,742.00 is going to be quite a burden to users even when spread over 40 years. I would like to draw our far- mers attention to the fact that we are still able to get 4 percent money from the Ontario Government for tile drainage loans. We have made 58 of these loans since the program began, 11 in 1973. Municipal Drains continue to be an important part of our work. Four new drains were completed in 1973. There are three drains in progress and we have, been petitioned for four more. By MRS. Christmas service and Holy communion will be held in St, Patrick's church at two o'clock December 23. Nancy Tindall, a 4-H member attended Achievement Day, held Saturday at the High School, Parkhill. councils Sixty-six building permits were issued during 1973. This year we purchased a tractor with back-hoe and loader which we feel will be a big asset to our road crew. I wish to thank the Times- Advocate for giving me this opportunity to bring a year end message to the ratepayers of Biddulph and to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. By BOB SHAREN Reeve of Grand Bend In a very brief message I would like to tell the ratepayers of the village of Grand Bend that council will strive to carry our austerity ' program started this year into 1974. One of the highlights of the year was the large reduction in tax arrears from $55,000 at the beginning of the year to the present figure of about $11,000. We will continue to work to keep eipenditures to the 'lowest figures possible while still providing all necessary services. Our aims are to make Grand Bend a better place in which to play and live on a year-round basis. On behalf of councillors Murray Des Jardins, Douglas Martin, John Teevins and Tom Webster, clerk-treasurer Louise Clipperton and road foreman Vic Anysymiw I would like to extend the best wishes of the season and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to everyone.
