Mrs. Ewart Madden conducted a game on The 12 Days of Christmas, which proved to be very humorous and entertaining, as did a skit presented by members of the Friendship Unit, Mrs. Ivan Hearn and Mrs. Ross McRoberts. Explorer girls Wendy Hearn, Many attend CGIT event The annual Christmas Vesper Service was presented by the members of the C.G.I.T., assisted by the Explorers. Sunday evening in the United Church. The theme, Because of A Life, was expanded by readers Karen Mason, Kim Flood and Linda Gibson. Wendy Kraul lighted the Candle of Forgiveness; Holly Elson, the Candle of Outreaching Concern, and Denise,,Kennedy the Candle of Love. The Nativity Scene wasenacted by two C.G.I.T. girls and six Explorers. Members of both groups formed the choir with Brenda Dykeman as soloist and Mrs. Roy Dykeman assisting at (Ile piano. Carol singing was enjoyed, led by Mrs. Alex Jones, and the worship service, Christmas, a Time of Singing, was conducted by Mrs. Hearn assisted by Mrs. T. Barr, During the business meeting, chaired by president, Mrs. Sheridan -Revington, reports from the various committees were received and the treasurer reported a profit of ap- proximately $675.00 from the bazaar. A donation was voted to the Alma College bursary fund as Weather reduces Club attendance Owing to poor weather con- ditions the attendance at the Sunshine Club for Seniors was down to 23 members, who played euchre. Mrs. Lawrence McCarthy and Mrs. Gordon Atkinson (playing a man's card) were winners. It was announced that Mrs. Lillian Kelly had been rushed to the hospital during the week-, 'Mid that Mrs. Olga Bond is very ill at her home on Main Street. Lunch was provided by Mrs. Evan Hodgins and Mrs. Bond. Produce holders from tin cans The Lucan & District Brownies held their Christmas party at the school last Wednesday. Each member made a Christmas card holder from a tin can, and enjoyed games and singing, with lunch being served at the close of the meeting. Brownies will not meet again until January 9, 1974. well as a contribution to the general fund of the church. The president voiced her thanks to all who had helped with the Bazaar and through the year. No organization can function without the help of all its mem- bers. Explorers stage Christmas fete The -Explorers held their Christmas expedition Monday night with Mrs. Don O'Neil, counsellor, leading in games and Christmas carols. Worship was conducted by Wendy Hearn and Bonnie Richards on the theme, Wise Men Presenting Their Gifts. Chief counsellor Mrs. Wm. Froats showed the film, Christmastide, which was followed by discussion and a closing Christmas prayer. Everyone sang Happy Christmas to You. The final activity for the 1973 for the Explorers will be to assist with the C.G.I.T. Vesper Ser- vice. er Santa visits WI meeting Mi's. Santa Claus visited the Women's Institute members at their Christmas meeting in the Masonic Hall, Wednesday af- ternoon. The executive was in charge of arrangements for the pot luck luncheon and program. Tables groaned with the multitude of goodies and not one member was watching calories! Each member answered the roll call with a gift for the Parkhill Girls' Home and with an item for the program, which consisted of skits, readings, poems and jokes. Mrs. Santa distributed the secret friend's gifts, secretary, Mrs. James Lockyer conducted the draw for the 1974 secret friend, and a game which was won by Mrs. Frank Jolliffe PUPPIES ARRIVE Mrs. Howard Currie of Brialin Kennels reports the arrival of 3 sets of additions, totalling 16 puppies. Two sets are in private homes, but the mothers are owned by Mrs. Currie. Howard Porter, pharmacist at the Radcliffe Drug Store is a patient in University Hospital. During his absence, two of his classmates who graduated the same year from the College of Pharmacy, are filling in for him in the dispensary. The com- munity is grateful to these gentlemen, Malcolm Smith and Ted Avers for giving their professional service. Your correspondent wishes to thank all who have helped make the Lucan page successful during the past five months, and wishes everyone a Happy and Blessed Christmas and a Joyous, Healthy New Year. Mrs. M.H. Hodgins spent Wednesday night as the guest of her sister Miss M. Merle Law, London, when they attended the production, 'Anne of Green Gables. The Carling-O'Keefe Brewing Company had pur- chased 500 seats for this show and these were available to any senior. Mrs. Frank Hardy, Sr. en- tertained 19 sons and daughters with their respective wives and husbands at a pre-Christmas dinner at "Ye Ole City Hall' Restaurant, London, Sunday evening. They returned to her home on the 4th of Biddulph for a social time. Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Ainslie were Saturday guests with Mr. & Mrs. M.H. Hodgins. Mr, & Mrs. Arthur Cun- ningham and Donald were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. W. Ward Hodgins, Vanastra Park. s. Rev. & Mrs. E.O. Lancaster, formerly of Lucan, attended the Sunday service at St. James Church and also visited with Miss L.E. Abbott at the McCormick Home, Friday. David Cunningham who has been a patient at St. Joseph's Hospital for some weeks, following a car accident, is progressing well, He is still in traction, and will not be home for the holiday season. It's simple folks all that is required is you participate as these two good people will attest. Our second Pot 0' Gold has been started and the attendance draw will commence with our January 1974 General Meeting. All Fraternal Members of Branch 540 are reminded their 1974 Branch dues are due and payable prior to December 31st. 1973. This is not our requirement but that of a much higher authority "COMMAND', 540's Early Bird campaign is progressing favourably by the looks of the board it would appear we are nearing the 50 percent mark. Keep up the good work and let Branch 540 give you the Bird - the Early Bird that is. You are also reminded there is a free draw for all those good members that become Early Birds, Pay your 1974 membership dues now and have something to crow about. Branch 540's cheque draw is progressing most favourably - those of you that have cheques on College have helped him keep up- to-date with his studies.
