The largest grant — $12,480 — goes to Clinton and District Christian School, Society of the Dutch Reformed Church to add two classrooms, storagerooms and washrooms to its Clinton school. The school serves children in the Clinton, Goderich, Exeter, Seaforth and Blyth areas. The Tuckersmith Municipal Telephone System, which serves 1,500 subscribers, receives $10,640 to hook subscribers to underground cable and reduce the number of connections on multi-party lines. The Ausable-Bayfield Con- servation Authority receives $7,200 to improve woodlot and wildlife management at the Parkhill Dam. Two Goderich senior citizen projects were given loans: The Information and Friendship Centre gets $12,480 to provide social, recreational and in- formation services for senior citizens; Helping Hands receives $7,200 to make minor repairs to homes of the elderly and provide winter transportation, snow shovelling, window cleaning and other services. Accidents involve out-of-towners The two accidents investigated this week by Exeter town police officers involved motorists from St. Marys, In the first mishap early Sunday morning, vehicles driven by Douglas Weston, RR 3, St. Marys and William Philips, Exeter collided on the Les Pines parking lot. Constable Alex Balazs set damages at $180. Tuesday, at the intersection of Wellington and Andrew streets vehicles driven by Richard Marshall, 70 Huron street, St. Marys and Kenneth .Wildfong, Zurich were involved in a collision. Chief Ted Day in- vestigated and listed damages at $800. flow restrictions. Other major capital costs will include $30,000 for development Window, cooler are damaged Two incidents of willful damage were reported to the Exeter police department this week. Saturday, a beer bottle was thrown through the plate glass window of Sherwood's Massey Ferguson building on Wellington street. The damage was estimated at $100 and Constable Alex Balazs investigated. A pop cooler at Walper's Supertest service station at the intersection of Highways 4 and 83 was damaged over the weekend. Constable George Robertson is in charge of the investigation, A small wooden red sleigh with sides was recently found at the rear of the Bank of Nova'Scotia. It may be redeemed at the police station by proving ownership. An increase maybe not When is a change from $12 to $14 not an increase? That was the question facing Exeter's RAP committee this week and the answer was finally sorted out. The higher figure is not an increase in salary when in fact the number of hours worked for that $14 has been increased. The situation revolved around the pay scale for ballet instructor Debi Wooden. Last year RAP had paid her $12 for instructing for a total of three hours. That's an hourly rate of $4.00. However, this year there were many more youngsters registered for ballet and Debi ended up teaching for four and a half hours. Some RAP members felt they were approving a pay increase when they boosted her stipend to $14 but that was actually a decrease in the per hour figure. The situation was finally resolved Monday when RAP members learned of the misunderstanding. SO they • agreed to pay her - 4,00 per hour for the four and a half hours. It will be retroactive to the start of the ballet term, That of course is not a pay increase over lag year as RAP had originally intended if one considers the per hour fee only, of a conservation area at Port Blake, north of Grand Bend and $20,000 for continuation of development at Parkhill. A river realignment at Clinton is expected to cost $15,000 and there will be a $16,000 for the Webster land acquisition. The administration budget will be up from $112,400 to $137,750, The major change here is a 1974 equipment proposal of $19,700 which would include purchase of a half-ton truck, a bulldozer, tractor, mower welder, sander and float. Playhouse Guild changes styles The Total Look, consisting of makeup, hairstyle and wig, was presented by Dave Sheppard of Grand Bend, to the members and friends of the Huron Country Playhouse Guild, at the Green Forest Motel. The models, members of the Guild, had makeup applied and natural looking wigs fitted for daytime wear. Then with a few highlights added to their makeup, a becoming hairdo, a change of wearing apparel, they were all set for Christmas partying. Dave pointed out many women wear the latest fashion in clothes but keep the same old hairdos, Plan bowling for seniors Ruth Durand who has kept minor bowling active in Exeter for several years now, will tackle the other end of the age scale in the immediate future, She hopes to have a session with senior citizens at the local lanes. Mrs. Durand told fellow RAP members this week she had talked the situation over with senior citizen club president Ted Chambers and the two of them thought something could be arranged. This prompted Reeve Derry Boyle to suggest he had been considering senior citizens lately and said if the post office is taken over by the town, they should consider using the town hall for senior citizens' activities. "It could be galled Ye Olde Senior Citizens Hall," Lee Dobbs replied, making reference to the fact London's old city hall was turned into a restaurant and called "Ye Old City Hall." Readers write A Dear Sir: Just a note referring to the Exeter parade they held Saturday. I was admitted to South Huron Hospital (kind of sudden on Friday afternoon) and was fortunate to have a bed at the window facing south on Huron St, On reading the Exeter Times- Advocate it said that the parade would NOT — I repeat, would not — go west on Huron past the hospital, One will never know the disappointment I felt that af- ternoon. I am sure there were patients and nurses who felt like I did in not being able to see the parade on a beautiful day like they had, My little son said "Mom make sure you see the train because Stephen Central made that float". He was so proud. I didn't think ,the parade committee would deprive the shutins the privilege of seeing the Exeter parade. I hear it was beautiful again this year. When I heard the bands playing, that did it. What if it was one of the committee that was in hospital — what would have happened??? Name on request. * * * Dear Sir During the summer of this year I made my first trip to Canada and among other arrangements made for my pleasure and amusement by my sister and brother-in-law, (Mr. and Mrs, David Kirton of Weston) was a short stay in Exeter during the Centennial Celebrations, I shall never forget the won- derful hospitality shown by everyone in the Town and hope to return there in 1975 (with my husband) to meet again some of the people who were so charming to a stranger. As I am unable to remember all their names and wonder therefore if you could spare a small space in your paper to express my thoughts, greetings for Christmas and best wishes for the coming year to all your townsfolk and particularly to Harvey and Dot Pfaff and their lovely children, the Heywoods (wherever they may be) and "Aunt Mildred" (Mrs. Yellow), Reg and his wife (McDonald, I think) and all the others who gave me such a welcome to Exeter. You may like to know that Calvin Heywood lives only a few miles from me and he is now fit again and has recently called to see me. It was great to see him Co-Worker: "So you're the father of twins. Who do they look like?" Excited Parent: "Each other!" (and Canadian friends he brought with him) but made me feel very "homesick" for Canada, My home (a 500 year old Tudor cottage) is only a few miles from Gatwich airport and although it is too small to allow for overnight guests in the main, I shall always be glad to meet and bring home for a meal anyone who is visiting this country. (Not that I'm trying to put Cal Heywood out of business!) or to meet them any time they are in England. A letter in advance to advise me, or a telephone call (Burgess Hill, Sussex 3612) will see me pinning on my Maple Leaf brooch and putting out the welcome mat. Good Luck, Good Health and God be with you all in Exeter. Yours sincerely Ester Aylett (Mrs. R. L. Aylett) A financial statement which includes the proposed budget for 1974 was presented at Wed- nesday's annual meeting of the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority. The budget which will be% considered at the February meeting shows total expenditures for 1974 at $450,000. This is an increase of almost $115,000 from a year ago. The big increase comes in the capital expenditures division where costs are estimated at $275,000. A large portion of this, $130,000 has been designated for conservation land acquisition. An option has been secured on approximately 61 acres of land along the Bannockburn River in Stanley township. It is hoped this purchase can be finalized before the end of the year although its purchase will have to be included in the 1974 budget due to cash bout parade,
