Snowmobiles
can kill crop
The first snowfall is the signal
for winter fun to snowmobile
enthusiasts. However, because
the machines are so mobile and
powerful, snowmobile operators
should be careful not to damage
plants and crops, says Burke
McNeill, a horticultural
specialist with the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and
Food.
Snowmobiles may break young
trees and shrubs. Small
evergreen plantings, such as
are found in conservation areas,
are often covered by only a light
layer of snow — and are often
damaged by passing machines.
Operated on lawns, fields of
winter wheat or hay, especially
where snow cover is light, they
compact the snow, killing the
crop or sod.
Remember that if you do your
own servicing at home, fill the
machine on the driveway. Spilled
gas or oil will kill grass.
Enjoy the thrill of snowmobiling
but drive carefully. Avoid sites
where trees, sod, and crops are
planted.

Thanksgiving To New Year's
Will Your Stomach Regret It?
It seems most of us cannot resist packing
in those wonderful holiday foods. And as a
result every year we hear a great deal about
stomach upsets in that period from the end of
November to the first of January.
Fortunately, most of this indigestion and
stomach upset are of a simple nature and
short lived, Sensible eating could probably
eliminate them completely. But, if you can't
resist and do over indulge, we stock a great
many products to relieve the discomfort and
help you to recover quickly.

The Ministry of Trankportation
and Communications has an-
nounced that renewal
registration for passenger motor
vehicles and trailers are on sale
at 284 Licence Issuing Offices

As in 1973, the fees are 823 for a
4-cylinder vehicle; $32 for 6-
cylinder- 540 for an 8-cylinder car
and $5 for trailers.
This year marks the first time

No new permit will be issued
for renewal - the present permit
will be used for five years.
Under the new system
motorists will not be required to

permit with the fee to the issuer.
The issuer will then ask the
motorist to sign an insurance
declaration and will return the
multi-year permit on which he
has affixed a sticker,, He will also
.pr-ovide another sticker the
motorist will be required. to at-
tach to the plate on the rear of his
