Wrestlers
tops again
The South Huron District High
School wrestling team is starting
off in its ususal fashion of winning
the majority of meets they
participate in.
Competing in a tri-meet in
Stratford Thursday, the South
Huron grapplers defeated the
host Stratford Central team 52-18
and outscored Northwestern 48-
30.
The winning streak continued
at South Huron Monday af-
ternoon as the locals disposed of
Seaforth and Parkhill by
respective scores of 60-24 and 51-
27.
Five wrestlers have an un-
defeated streak going with four
consecutive victories to their
credit. They are Art Westelaken,
Barry Miller, Mike Miller, Gary
Lavier and Stefan Orenchuk. -
In Thursday's action, Art
Westelaken was named the best
wrestler, Marc Gelinas took the
'honours as the most improved
and John Vanden Burgt pinned
an opponent in the fastest time of
48 seconds.
Monday afternoon, the best
wrestler award went to Mike
Miller with Gary Lavier as the
most improved and Paul Ritchie
managed the fastest pin in 41
seconds.
Only one crash
for town police
The only accident of the week
investigated by officers of the
Exeter police department oc-
curred early Saturday morning
on Highway 4, just south of the
bridge.
A vehicle driven by Daniel R.
Kerslake, 21 Victoria street east,
Exeter was in collision with a
parked vehicle owned by Denton
Arthur Gaiser, 465 Main street,
Exeter.
Constable Alex Balasz in-
vestigated and listed damages at
$175.

specialist judging chairman.
During their visit to the Royal
for the finals the contestants
were guests at the Junior Barrow
Show committee luncheon,
awarded prize ribbons at the

presided at the Ontario Pork
Institute booth in the Food Fair.
Ontario Pork Hostess Adrienne
will be invited to be present at
pork events during her reign, and
assist the pork producers of
Ontario in their active program
of promoting their product.

Four seek Huron warden post, salary boosts okayed

Reeve Oddleifson, the only
candidate who is retired, claims
he has the time to be a fulltime
warden, He indicated he will
make county restructuring an
important issue in his campaign
and told council earlier in the day
he would press for a special
committee of council to be ap-
pointed to study the matter.
"It is about time we assess
where we are going, how we are
going to get there and what we
are going to do when we get
there," said Oddleifson. "I don't
believe bigger is necessarily
better. I'm selfish how and where
this county goes."

The November session of
Huron County Council lasted late
into Friday afternoon with the
bulk Of the time during the day
spent on hearing various reports
front county offices such as the
Department of Agriculture and
Food and allowing first year
Members of county council time
to give their impressions of the
previous months.
Main item of interest during
the day was the announcement of
four councillors that will seek the
office of Warden for 1974. These
include two former contestants in
the race and two new faces.
Hugh Flynn, reeve of Hullett
and Ed Oddliefson, reeve of
Bayfield, will be candidates
again this year and the
newcomers to the contest are
Bill Elston, reeve of Mofris and
Charles Thomas, reeve of Grey.
A fifth councillor who was
expected to be in the running
announced he will not seek
election as Warden for 1974.
Clinton Reeve Harold Lobb said
family commitments will
prevent him from entering the
race but 'he advised that if at all
possible, he will be a candidate
for the wardenship in 1975,
Clinton's Centennial Year, when
terest since his entrance onto the
municipal scene in 1952 has been
"to better the good forthe people
Of the county." lie said his family
settled in the county in1861 so he
has a deep interest in the welfare
of Huron citizens,
He further explained that
Second World War experiences
have taught him the differences
between wealth and poverty, the
good life and deprivation, He
confided that since returning to
Canada from Italy where he saw
the bulk of his action, he devoted
himself to people and their
ultimate good.
Charles Thomas told of his
"respect for Huron and the way it
operates." He said it is one of
the most "progressive thinking
counties in Ontario" and noted he
would be proud to be warden
here,
The Development Committee
of County Council met during the
day to concur with the intent of a
letter regarding STOL (Short
Take Off and Landing). Council
learned of a trip sponsored by De
Havilland from Huron County to
Toronto at which time Warden
Roy Pattison and Spence Cum-
mings development officer, as
well as several businessmen saw

bidder of three submitted,
quoting a price of two and a half
cents per gallon below the
regular retail price.
Council members weren't even
sure what the present retail price
is in Exeter as some firms appear
to be selling for 27.4 while others
are at 28.4.
Area girl is pork hostess
Police involved
in speedy chase
Constable D.R. Vance of the
Ontario Provincial Police
detachment at Lucan was in-
volved in a high speed chase on
Highway 4, early Sunday mor-
ning.
The Constable saw a vehicle
strike another in the rear in Arva
and take off without stopping, He
gave chase at speeds of up to 100
miles an hour.
The car in question was
eventually in collision with a
London police department
cruiser driven by Constable R.
Hardy.
The car was stolen earlier in
the day from. William Hugh
Morenz, 1072 Frances street,
London.
Lawrence Sagriff and a
juvenile were apprehended.
Charges of theft, dangerous
driving and hit and run are being
laid by police.
More winners
in football pool
The lesser prizes in the annual
Exeter Lions club annual Grey
Cup raffle have been awarded.
Ray Frayne of Exeter wins $25
for having the correct score at
the end of the first quarter and
the half-time prize goes to Bill
Cochrane of Grand Bend.
The prize of $75 going for the
third quarter score was won by
Gordon Rimmer of Seaforth.
Murray Moore of Exeter a for-
mer president of the local Lions
won the top prize of $300.
PCs establish
new committees
At the first meeting of the
Progressive Conservative
executive, four new committees
were established.
Mrs. Donna Wood, Mrs. Gladys
Guene, Mrs. Jean Ginn and Mrs.
Mary Fran Gaiser were ap-
pointed to the ladies committee
with Mrs. Wood named chair-
man.
Lorne Kleinstiver leads up the
finance committee to be assisted
by Gerry Holmes and Jim
Hay ter.
Les Habkirk was appointed to
chair the social committee. Also
appointed were Percy Brown,
Bill Cummings and Ron Merner.
Leroy Harrison was appointed
chairman of public relations to be
assisted by Dick Atkey and
Morley Sanders.
With the co-ordination of these
committees an active social
program will be established in
the riding.
Plan discussion
over post office
With Exeter's new post office
now under construction,
disposition of the present
structure on Main St. is being
considered.
Council were advised this week
their interest in the building will
be considered by the department
of public works.
An official is expected to
discuss the matter with council in
the near future and the depart-
„ment suggested a `satisfactory
agreement” should be reached.
Council members have little
idea of what to expect in the way
of price for the present town hall,
which they have indicated could
be turned into municipal offices.
Some hinted this week the town
could get the building for a
token $1,00 while others opined
it would be put up for tender and
go to the highest bidder. Toronto and the Royal as part of
their prize.
Adrienne was presented with a
tiara, sash and a cheque for $300
by Keith Weeden, Chairman of
the sponsoring Ontario Pork
Producers Marketing Board, plus
a bouquet, courtesy of the RWF
Flower Show. Runners-up Mary
Joan Stevers of Perth County and
Debbie Riddell, also ofDashwood
each received $100.

County competitions held during
